Footwork isn't easy, all the elements toprock, footwork, freezes and power are all hard to do at the top level. Bboy cico known for his crazy power strugglers with footwork, if you look up on youtube "bboy cico doing footwork" you'll see a vid of someone teaching him footwork and it looks like he's having a hard time
For just an overall bboy set I would agree, but It seems the judges did not count at least half that round as “footwork”. The first moved repeated was basically a go-down into back-rock, then back up and down again. Some of the other stuff was questionable too. Honestly, well over half the moves in all the sets of everyone in this were not footwork. It is pretty frustrating for breakers that enter the footwork battle for footwork and also the judges are looking to judge footwork, but over half the moves are go-downs, tops, freezes, transitions, back-rock, etc. same would go for someone entering a power battle and adding non-power moves.
Lol little japanese kid doesnt understand footwork battle concept? Or am i wrong and this battle allowed backrock freezes etc?...not just him.. Other people doing godowns.. Freezes.. Weird
Jey is good and all but damn his footwork is literally just the same tempo with many different variations going in a CONSISTENT DIRECTION (with some direction changes but not dynamic whatsoever). This is not what a footwork champ should only have. He is greatly lacking musicality and flavor.
Dj's stop playing nonsese funk with no drum or base line for battles. Way to kill the hype. Keep that ambiance for cyphers if you need to kill time. That 2nd beat and the transition into it completely killed all hype.
Radu Pavel why do tracks always have to be hype for? This dance is based on funk, hiphop came from funk... This is why so many bboys and bgirls can't dance anymore, all these super fast hype "breakbeats"
kiddvandal91 because its a battle not a partner dance or an elevator ride. Funk isnt the problem the down tempo is and the general theme. When the hype dies the dj is to blame 90% pf the time.
Radu Pavel yeah and half these beats don't leave room to dance or rock or groove which is the root of all street dance. Maybe research some music history in relation to the dances and you'll see. Just because it's a battle doesn't mean everything has to be super fast... The djs job is to test ur ability to DANCE. Not how fast u can go. If u don't get that there's no point in even debating musicality advantages on slow to fast music, phrasing, half/double Time pacing, polyrhthyms etc
kiddvandal91 you dont get it. The djs job isnt to trst your ability to dance. And the point of a battle isnt to test you as an individual artist. The point of a battle is to beat your oponent. The djs job is to make it hype, offensive, funky or not. The other beats keep for the cypher... When you battle you battle people... Its not a resume on your career.. This isnt an all styles conpetition or so you think you can dance.
Radu Pavel I do get it... And I'm friends with djs who play at jams across Europe... I see what ur saying but my point stands. Not sure where you're from and maybe that's a trend djs push where u are in the world but there's more to battling tunes than offense based music. For crying out Rock Creek Park is a classic break, so's half of James Brown's music... Are they tunes that make u want to "attack"
It’s so nice to see breaking without all those crazy power moves. I love them but this takes it back to the roots
Where is master of footwork Bboy Pocket?!
