Loving these videos! Super useful information on a relatively niche art form. Do you ever lay a protective layer or coat over your figures? And if so, what do you reccomend?
I love the effect of the dry brush for bring out the features of the face especially around the mouth and high points on the eye lids. Thanks for such a nicely broken down tutorial. If you don’t mind, I’d like to suggest a video on adhesives. I would personally love to learn more about glues and adhesives when it comes to sculptures. Particularly if you recommend any for adhering fabric to clay/vinyl/resin, as well as for supports and mounting sculptures. Thanks again for another helpful tutorial. :)
noob question sir. 1. no need for primer? water based acrylics, will that behave like that as well without primer? 2. no top coat? 3. i saw your vid for recast, is the clear epoxy resin the same as your matte white epoxy resin?
I've been fine so far without a primer. I don't even wash with soap before painting. Sometimes I use Krylon Matte varnish on top- but you have to be careful because it will dull some of the shiny paints :)
Thank you for this video!! Im just starting out painting some small sculptures and acrylics are a little foreign to me. Ill definitely use more washes and dry brush techniques in my next piece.
A really great detailed tutorial for painting our sculptures. I really hope your community grows soon. You obviously put a lot of work into these videos.
I see you are using Windsor newton and I think I saw golden paints in another of your videos . Are those the best paints for that particular resin? Do you prime your figures? And do you seal them with any kind of coating at all after painting them?
I don't prime the resin, but sometimes use a Krylon matte finish spray. All those paints work well on resin - my favorites are the Liquitex becuase their bottles have a simple and clean lid :)
can't honestly say... it should. I would lightly scuff the aluminum surface first - even with like a 400 or 600- just to give it a bit of tooth. Could also primer it- that would definitely help the paint stick. Enamel paints might stick better than arcylics too. :)
Thank you for sharing these video. Your work is gorgeous and so is your skills.
Thanks for watching :)

Loving these videos! Super useful information on a relatively niche art form. Do you ever lay a protective layer or coat over your figures? And if so, what do you reccomend?
Yes, I use a Krylon matte finish when I can- unless I have iridescents or interference colors on top because it will dull the colors. Thanks!

Do you have a video how to make the cat figure
no- but seeing as how I'm a big cat fan, there might be one in the future :)
Awesome!!!!
Wow, it’s amazing how the washes give the figure more depth and texture. Thanks for sharing more of your process!

Love seeing the process in-depth like this!
Great stuff steve!....would these same paints and technics work on aluminum, like a raw metal guitar pedal enclosure?
can't honestly say... it should. I would lightly scuff the aluminum surface first - even with like a 400 or 600- just to give it a bit of tooth. Could also primer it- that would definitely help the paint stick. Enamel paints might stick better than arcylics too. :)
Can Windsor Newton acrylic paint be used on vinyl too rather than golden
not very familiar with vinyl, but there re a lot of toy artists out there customizing vinyl that probably have the answer :)
Awesome tutorial! Thanks bro!
No problem!
