- Do you say UMM & AHH when you speak? 🥹
This is considered auditory clutter when you are talking to others and it distracts them from the message you're trying to convey to them.
The problem is that most people aren't even AWARE that they do this.

umm, interesting for sure 😅
umm is for keeping your turn in the convo, bc the other person may steal your talking turn if you pause silent
Create more presence in the conversation.
Notice the way Vinh is talking: he looks away, closes his eyes, or gestures if he's at a pause that someone might use an 'umm'. It's communicating with body language that there's more to come.
You can do similarly with your breathe or the tone of your voice to suggest that you're not done.
All that said, it may not help if your conversation partner is rude or your message is deeply uninteresting.
After you noticed/identify your Umm's habits, one way to stop the Umm's is to intentionally replace it with a silent pause.
Pausing still give us time to process what's in our mind, just as an Umm does
