At 22:50 you say it has a "Direct Drive Transmission" that does so much better than a CVT. What is a Direct Drive Transmission? Isn't it a CVT by another name?
A CVT uses a system of cones and a belt to maximize power and efficiency, at the cost of reliability and feel. The Honda system here is direct drive electric up to like 50mph, then switches over to gas at highway cruising. No belt, higher reliability, feels like an electric car on acceleration with simulated shifts.

Why do you refer to the transmission as direct drive and not a cvt when their own website says it’s an “Electronic continuously variable transmission”?
Honda's branding for this transmission is frustrating. It's not a CVT in that it doesn't use a problematic belt. Around the city it's a direct drive off the electric motor. At highway it goes to gas. They really ought to not have used the CVT moniker because of the negative connotations it got from Nissan.

whats up with all the orange wire covers in Hybrids? I noticed a bunch of different manufactures using them, is it regulations for high voltage cables?
Yup
All that badging in the rear right. They should have gone with only the initials : STH
more than likly going t be my next car...i was leaning towards the si but im old now 38 and i dont care for performance any more...i was comfort and low cost of ownership. Tho id get a smaller rim maybe 16 so the tires are cheaper.
I won’t be surprised if Honda finds a way to ditch the SI and develop the hybrid system as the new SI with manual and auto options.
Is not a great car but is not that bad either 🤷🏼♂️ I feel like sometimes buying an used one is the way to go.
I can understand your thoughts on that one Omar
Needs: autodimming homelink mirror; rear vents and connectivity; and led rear lights to complete the package IMO
For 34k...absolutely!
It had rear usbs, they just got rid of them for no reason
It is auto dimming. Not sure if it has home link though
@@xp50player hmm, my ‘25 sport touring has auto dimming
@@xp50player USA. You?
Honda is the best. Joe your reviews are spectacular. Humor and industry knowledge. Always enjoy your shows.
I never once in my life imagined thinking of buying a honda. Now I am. I'm Canadian and the cost of gas is insane due to our terrible government and this ridiculous belief in "climate change", so a fast and responsive hybrid that honestly looks good is a good option, and I've driven a Ford pickup for the last 15 years
I considered this car but they lost me at 4K dealer mark up!
Might as well do Civic vs Camry when Prius is the same price as Camry at starting trims 🧐
A major zonk on the Crosstrek is the rear door design.
$34k no way
What do you think the price should be?
Should be $29k but prices are out of control nowadays :(
Can you please test drive the non hybird version please? I just bought one and would love your opinion because i regret it so much and wsnt to trade it in for the hybird but i leased it so idk how thay works ); if anyone has advice for me please tell me ill take any advice bad or good
front overhang is too lonoooonnnngggg looks lika a flattened pancake hahaha
Hi Joe, which one is the car best for uber drivers RAV4, CRV, CAMRY, CIVIC ???
Hellllooooooooo
I counted three times that Joe triggered the forward collision warning
Why do you refer to the transmission as direct drive and not a cvt when their own website says it’s an “Electronic continuously variable transmission”?
Honda's branding for this transmission is frustrating. It's not a CVT in that it doesn't use a problematic belt. Around the city it's a direct drive off the electric motor. At highway it goes to gas.
They really ought to not have used the CVT moniker because of the negative connotations it got from Nissan.
Love the color
