Whenever I watch clips of Mogely or Ricky skating, I feel the need to go outside and skate, and to me that says it all. They’re unique and inspirational skaters, and it’s dope to see people digging them.

For me it was Police Academy 4 and Back to the Future that made me pick up a skateboard. It shouldn't matter what inspires you, as long as you're inspired.
Mogs you were my inspiration to get back into skateboarding at 27, and hearing someone explain things the way I think k about things has been a huge help. Keep doing you man you're an inspiration, a great personality and a great soul

When I was younger I used to talk trash on youtube skateboarding, which was insanely ironic because I learned every basic trick I had from Aaron Kyro. No one is more core than the people that you can see love skateboarding the most. Much love for you John and every youtube skater out here killing it, making their own path, and becoming successful despite traditional skateboarding industry standards. It's incredible the love that the youtube skateboarding community has for skateboarding and other skaters!

I remember when i was like 12-13 me and my mate saw him walk into a 711 in reservoir (suburb in north melbourne) and me saying “are you ricky glaser?” and mispronouncing his name. We all knew him as hes kinda a local dude everyone knows especially at edwards lake skatepark and even from instagram. Pre crazy mane.

You made some really good points. Andy Shrock is a skateboard company owner that actually SKATES, and I never even acknowledged that. Admittedly, I saw Revive as a corny company, but honestly, he's a reflection of a certain part of skateboarding. It's authentic. I'm pretty happy with this outlook, especially since I love the idea of skateboarding being run by actual skateboarders.
I dig the RUclips thing. Jonny Gigger is a MASSIVE inspiration, as are the rest of you. It's home grown and grass roots and I dig it. Nice message, John. Cheers.

Braile is what got me into skateboarding. Last yr I bought a basic Santa Cruz skateboard and have been learning how to skate with that. Only trick i can do is a basic ollie and nollie haha
Got a board and started skating again after 15+ years because of your channel + the art you create. (I’ll grab some grip tape on the next board) I think they’re a great example of what happens when good friends who skate just figured out how they were going to run the business side together in the new landscape. I’m excited about them. I plan on testing out business models to bring new skaters into the community. It would be my dream to link up with people that are down to earth like y’all but also high caliber creative athletes 🥷🏽🤙🏽
They are by no means up to skill with the hardcore thrasher dudes, but they have very marketable names and fanbases and thats what helps them pro n stuff.
Really good vid. I dont skate at all never have. Tried a month in middle school but didnt get into it like that but iv always been interested as a fan and hearing deep dives like this fascinating.
The only thing I got out of this video is him crying not being accepted to the main stream and hating on them in a subtle way. Instead of trying to unite the two sides of skateboarding he’s kind of keeping them separated by calling out the mainstream. He thinks so highly of himself and his friends who didn’t make it in the “big time” I would have had some respect for him if he did batb. Instead he decided to poke the cool and edgy brands.

They're good skateboarders but in order to be pro now you have to be super humanly athletic and basically risk your life for every trick so them calling themselves professional kinda waters down the industry imo these dudes are like B team good or AM level..

It is widely known that Revive isn’t a real skateboard company in the traditional sense. I think it’s just a way for RUclipsrs to present themselves as pro skateboarders. Aaron Kyro’s target audience is little kids that he can sell crappy gear to (and their parents). Kyro’s skill level as a skater seems on par with the average person you might see at your local skatepark. The only thing professional about him is the money he’s making off his channel.
Marketing is the most overlooked aspect of skateboarding. People forget that Bam Margera sold more boards than Tony Hawk did in the early 00's. Was Bam the best skateboarder in the world? By a longshot, no. He was very good, but he didn't skate competitions, he didn't go on skate tours, he was basically a social influencer before that was a thing. And for a while, he sold more boards than anyone on the planet and made Element a lot of money in the process. Is Aaron Kyro the best skateboarder in the world? By a longshot, no. But guess how many more kids watch his videos than give two shits about Nyjah Huston nollie laser flipping a 30 stair or placing first in Street League. He sells skating, which is the whole point of being pro. Is Andy Anderson the best skater in the world? Judging by his competition scores, the judges certainly don't think so. Guess whose pro model is selling like water in the desert.
Marketing is Skateboarding. That's how bad ideas Sell. You could put a homeless guy on a skateboard and sell it. I am better than Aaron Kyro, but I do zero marketing. (Bam did tours with Toy Machine and Element I am sure. I remember watching the videos. Bam was Gnarly.) (Nyjah doesn't do Nollie Laser Flips and has never even ollied a 20 stair. Nyjah has been marketing since he was doing heelflip feebles down handrails at 12 years old.) (Andy Anderson is one of the Best Skaters in the World.)

Marketing is the most overlooked aspect of skateboarding. People forget that Bam Margera sold more boards than Tony Hawk did in the early 00's. Was Bam the best skateboarder in the world? By a longshot, no. He was very good, but he didn't skate competitions, he didn't go on skate tours, he was basically a social influencer before that was a thing. And for a while, he sold more boards than anyone on the planet and made Element a lot of money in the process. Is Aaron Kyro the best skateboarder in the world? By a longshot, no. But guess how many more kids watch his videos than give two shits about Nyjah Huston nollie laser flipping a 30 stair or placing first in Street League. He sells skating, which is the whole point of being pro. Is Andy Anderson the best skater in the world? Judging by his competition scores, the judges certainly don't think so. Guess whose pro model is selling like water in the desert.
Marketing is Skateboarding. That's how bad ideas Sell. You could put a homeless guy on a skateboard and sell it.
I am better than Aaron Kyro, but I do zero marketing.
(Bam did tours with Toy Machine and Element I am sure. I remember watching the videos. Bam was Gnarly.)
(Nyjah doesn't do Nollie Laser Flips and has never even ollied a 20 stair. Nyjah has been marketing since he was doing heelflip feebles down handrails at 12 years old.)
