People always use the term, "prime" when referring to an artist in their younger years, but to me that is a music critic's term for when they are to lazy to examine an artist's body of work over an entire career. Lara has proven over the years just how much a great artist handles changes and struggles throughout a long career, but still maintains the highest standards of quality performance. Maturity, to critics, is a bad thing. But that is because critics have a hard time understanding how art and artists evolve over time. They only concern themselves with relevance to current trends rather than growth over decades of experience. At least that's what over fifty years in the music business has taught me.
Excellent questioning of this word. Prime means you have risen and are staying at a high level before (inevitable) decline. Perhaps the onset of boredom leads to decline. I don't know but I bet Lara herself would say she iis not yet, but almost up to, her prime! Her life seems wholesome and balanced today and everything but boring. She has no longer anything to prove and is riding on a wave of new-found popularity. She has become an inspiration to newcomers and is adulated by a rock solid fan base. She has undoubtedly become much wealthier in recent years without being controlled by any big studios ( now that is success!) She seems to have a calm, intelligent temperament (that's quite rare in "stars") and to have a stable, loving, travelling, family life. Her personal qualities help. She has an irreligious belief in the power of one's personal angel, associated with faith in friends and family ( very Italian!). Lara does not respect the aloof word "diva". This is sensible as critics like to cut down these "tall poppies" when their sliderules determine the end of their "prime"). On the contrary, her songwriting connects with every type of person, young, old, homeless, sick or healthy, gay or straight and all manner of relationships. In 2024 Lara has new audiences, Her performances are well-maintained, as shown by the popularity of her new material This is all "prime" stuff, don't you think?
@@frankbirch3877 Hey Frank, i completely agree with your words here, even if Lara was never gone, she has really received another boost of popularity in recent months and that‘s wonderful to see.
O M G that is simply sensational...... take a perfect song, jazz it up and simply make it better...... La Reine! it's Lara's world and we're simply privileged to hear her sing in it.......
The video where the host (the guy with the guitar I think?) is introducing Lara is just as superb. The look Lara is giving him when he’s praising her and telling her he “loves” her… I will never get over how her eyes are literally expressing so much at any single point.
Microphone!!!! I'm still angry that they released a CD of the performances of the year before that one, but not this one, and they made Lara speak over basically the best part, I wanna hear it without the voice over (as much as I love hearing Lara talk haha)
Wow. Stunning version of this great song. And I am blown away by her comment that she has known that "It" is singing; i.e., her higher self, not her ego-based self. I now understand why she is so compelling as a performer -- she is allowing the absolute highest aspect of herself to come through. It explains why we see her sometimes needing a moment to recover after finishing a performance, and why we are all drawn to that -- it is what we all are meant to be doing in whatever our chosen mode of expression is. Brava, Lara!!
Her very best version of this song was during the 2001 concert at the "Zenith" concert hall in Paris, because of the emotion it contained. But, this is certainly also a very nice version! Sa meilleure version de cette chanson fut lors du concert de 2001 au Zénith de Paris, en raison de l'émotion qu'elle contenait. Mais c’est certainement aussi une très belle version !
I teared up at the bit where she spoke about singing because you can see it , the joy that she s talking about . Amazing . And I am reaaaaally happy you posted this , I never heard it and is going straight on repeat 😂🥰♥️
This is definitely one of my favorite versions, i just love the jazzy sound and the band is fantastic. I've never understood what Lara is saying here 3:10, but these are wonderful words☺️.
Dear Daniela. just wrote a little bit on Lara in her prime . It is a reply to hornerinf in Laras performane of Jr T Aime- Microphone.. Thought it might give you food for thought. Cheers.
Thanking you is coming a habit. You are almost right about that statement in heading. But she have so many versions of this song that i find it impossible to choose the best one...This is absolutely one of those...Vocals are superb. At the age of 48 she has lost nothing! Absolutely beautiful and masterful singing. This deepens the distance between her and others (already huge). These guys with her are the same that "si fragile" video. Did they make a bigger concert together or is it just these two or so?

You can’t pick a best vocal performance of this song. She never performed it twice the same way, they’re all different in one way or another so it comes down to personal preference really. That performance from 2018 is personally in my top 3, and I currently love the more refined 2022 version of the song she performed this week and last week. @@laratheringfabian I thought you could measure each performance on how close it is to the studio? I know she beat her studio version in Victoires that's why I'm kinda regarding it as her best performance.
@@jadalba9760 Well of course when watching a performance, you'd like it to be as close to the studio as possible....but if you know Lara, she never sings it just like the studio version. Most of the time, she adds some variations here and there, more nuances, removes notes and add others. It really depends but it any case, she's known for performing *better* live than in the studio.
This performance is stellar. To be able to sing a song with such passion 20 years later in a rejuvenated version, it's really exhilerating to watch.

You're absolutely right. I think for Lara herself she is now in her prime, because in contrast to then, she is now also doing well privately.
I agree. I personaly dont have a problem with "prime" word but most of the time I dont like context in which it is used
