50% upfront on any job over 25k, and dont let the work continue without payment plans and a invoice company that pays up front. costs a little extra to get the invoice companys on board but its a level of protection that will help alot
Unfortunately it’s just not realistic for clients to pay 50% up front without an advance payment bond which costs money for both the client and the supplier. Great in theory but won’t happen any time soon

Everything is here to test us! I believe you can do a company credit check so you can see if the company your are dealing with are likely to pay you or not. It may be worth doing stage payments on big jobs to try and avoid some of the risk!

You can only minimise risk, you can't eliminate it (unless you get full payment up front, which won't happen). Gutted for you on the company owing you all that money mate really am. That loading bay will sort the men out from the boys definitely and your main man the advanced scaffolder who put the extra bay on by mistake, he is a credit to your company because although he made the mistake and I know he had a couple of different drawings the important thing was he checked and checked again and realised before it was to late. With scaffolding I go by the saying if it’s right at the bottom it will be right at the top. And that loading bay is an intricate job. A lot of scaffolders would be lost. Keep up the good work 👌

You can track companies credit scores and how they are operating! This may help you choose clients, we use it to see whose been CCJ’d and things like that

Best advice I got and happened to me twice your situation . On the first beep of your alarm get out of that bed and crack on again.Dont stay in the bed no recovery in the bed .Your young fit got energy you will come through it .
Bad debt Joe is a fact of life. We've been knocked by Tier one contractors going pop, down to the smaller contractors. I would advise you obtain some contract law training and utilise the " 7 day letter" to be the contractor, who if their account is not up to date will withdraw their labour.
A good management accountant would advise or monitor your debtors with a thorough credit check : transfer risk by insurance : or have it underwritten .. if it’s worth £110k it’s worth mitigating risk
mate keep going last year i went 50 grand down in a matter of months working on my side hussle, killed me back to work 60 hour weeks working for a shit company, but yanno what i set a plan 5 years to get it all back and be focused/disciplined i did it in a year, and i can already tell youre just as head strong and more as me. youre leading a great team of boys and have your shit together you will make it back no problem at all, older wiser more focused. keep smashing it and its healthy to have a rant about it too, means youre human and care top bloke. its even more annoying when the mistake isnt yours too horrid feeling, you never get over it you just learn to get better with it :)

Tap the hoist supplier to install the hoist with a scaffold material rack and have them come back to install 2 floors at a time

Bad debt Joe is a fact of life. We've been knocked by Tier one contractors going pop, down to the smaller contractors. I would advise you obtain some contract law training and utilise the " 7 day letter" to be the contractor, who if their account is not up to date will withdraw their labour.

mate keep going last year i went 50 grand down in a matter of months working on my side hussle, killed me back to work 60 hour weeks working for a shit company, but yanno what i set a plan 5 years to get it all back and be focused/disciplined i did it in a year, and i can already tell youre just as head strong and more as me. youre leading a great team of boys and have your shit together you will make it back no problem at all, older wiser more focused. keep smashing it and its healthy to have a rant about it too, means youre human and care top bloke.
its even more annoying when the mistake isnt yours too horrid feeling, you never get over it you just learn to get better with it :)
