  • The four-seat AI:Trail quattro is Audi’s take on the future of the recreational vehicle and follows on from the Aicon, AI:Me and AI:Race in a series of concepts that explore the shape of the future. Along with its radical styling and uncluttered views comes all-electric powertrain. The AI:Trail is mean, green and the first Audi in the modern era to wear the word Audi on its tail in place of the customary Rings.
    In spite of its larger-than-life look the AI:Trail (pronounced i-Trail) is actually 335-millimetres shorter than the Q3 - sitting inside it, one would never know as there is space galore! The low beltline and large expanse of glass, including a pane that replaces the traditional grille, gives the cabin a light airy feel and 360-degree views of the road or off-road terrain. There are also large storage areas ahead of the driver (accessed through the lift-up windshield) along with a rear cargo floor that has a compartment for the charging cables.
    The cabin is also different in that there is no conventional instrumentation. Rather there is a steering wheel and a slot that accommodates a smartphone - it looks after everything from the speed readout and navigation to the infotainment functions in one neat package. Likewise, the camera-based mirrors show the side views in screens mounted to the A-pillars.

      @@00Dusty ok, first of all, the BEST commercial drones barely return to a STATIONARY home base, let alone to a moving one, it would take some advanced, and expensive tech to do that. Second, the BEST commericial drones batteries barely last 20 minutes before they need recharging, and that's just hovering. What's gonna happen when you need to drive over a hour in the dark? The FOLLOWING tech in the BEST commercial drones have a difficult time following walking objects, could you imagine a drone following a vehicle traveling 60 miles per hour? These drones and vehicles is a nice dream, and is practically sci fi. We'll never see it. Not for under a $100,000 dollar price range, at least. And it basically just isn't practical, or safe.

      @Clarence Your dreaming, I live in a climate and so do millions of other people were electric cars for civilians are not compatible now or 20 years from now. The Battery life is the biggest obstacle, not only how their life is cut to over half in cold weather, but also their range in fair weather conditions. Mining, Forestry, Railways, Agriculture and Shipping will continue to burn Billions of gallons of diesel fuel world wide to build our homes, transportation, businesses and goods to market including whats on your plate. Then there is the Industrial Military Complex, Billions more. I used to assemble 300 ton Haul trucks for coal mines in the 70's. these are called diesel over electric, just like Locomotive engines. Still widely in production and used today, and all over the world. The US and all Militaries in the world still for the most part run on one fuel Diesel.
      As for private citizens all running around in little electric cars, the power grid as it stands today would collapse if everybody owned a Tesla or facsimile and plugged it in at their home after their work day, and the biggest problem is that the infrastructure does not exist today and takes decades to build, and by the way what and how are you going to build to generate that much electricity to charge millions of batteries? Not solar, not wind mills, not coal, not natural gas, not hydro, not nuclear, so what then? As for your projection and belief that the technology is going to change very rapidly and magically appear is pure fantasy. It takes time and money for such a monumental change in infrastructure and the Oil Barons, Shyster Bankers, Wall street, Industry and many other forces do not have an appetite for such change at this time. Of course there are going to be pilot projects, and concept vehicles along the way as there has always been, but not on the scale your dreaming of.

    • @joythought
      @joythought 5 лет назад +1

      @MrMathiasdv Exactly. Bobbie probably hasn't driven a Tesla or looked into the fact that despite the harsh cold the range is decent and getting better with each model upgrade since 2012 and the batteries are lasting for more miles than ICE engines. Plus Superchargers and other charge points are nearly everywhere and becoming more convenient with much faster charge times. So many people aren't up to date with what Tesla is achieving.

    I can see where getting rid of the "traditional" dashboard saves space and gets rid of a lot of electronics.
    But it should be a detachable tablet the way the phone-dash is mounted would seem to limit how much info you can see at one time without swiping left or right (Unless it is also self-driving and you can remove your hands from the steering wheel whenever you like). Also what if your phone is lost in a field or smashed by a rock while you are off-roading. Your phone should be your "backup" dashboard and landscape mounted
    There also should be on-board headlights in addition to the "floating drone" headlights.

My husband owns 2 Toyota's (A brand new 4Runner, and a 1997 80 Series Land Cruiser) and he owns a older JK Jeep Wrangler.. I own a Toyota FJ Cruiser my parents bought me in high school, and a 2018 Land Rover Discovery I leased last year.. That covers the 3 major off road manufacturers in the North American market... I don't consider a manufacturer not focused on off road a major off road brand, no matter how good they are.

    I have a few concerns about his vehicle as a DIY mechanic
    1. Is this vehicle repairable at home ?
    2. Suppose you don't have a smartphone on you, is it possible to activate this vehicle ?
    3. Cost of parts ?
    4. Does this vehicle have off the grid recharging for the electric motors ?
    Great concept as an off road vehicle, but the Germans are notorious for making money pit cars. We will see how this vehicle holds up over time .
