I 100% agree that living on last months income has been the best for not only our family but our marriage too. Those mortgage rates are so low! Cell phone rates are sky high in Canada- I wish we had some discount options.
I really agree with your spiel in the beginning- normalize personal finance! Mannn I feel like such a sucker for my $121 monthly phone bill... currently locked into a 2 yr contract.
I keep seeing the month ahead method mentioned on the personal finance pages I follow. For some reason I can’t quite wrap my head around it! I think it keeps coming up over and over for a reason so I am going to really take a look at it and see if we can implement it.
Hi there. Thanks so much for sharing your budgets. I'm a long-term YNABBer, and I love learning from others' budget organization. One quick question I have is your income category that you say you use to keep track of your income. I love that idea -- I always have to flip over to our reports to see our income for the month, and having it on the budget screen would be really helpful. How do you implement it? Is it just a category that you flow income directly into, rather than into TBB, or do you put income into TBB and drop it into the category? When and how do you do the month budgeting from the income that's in that category?
Hi Brian! Essentially it's just a category where we hold all of our income for the month, then at the end of the month we zero the category out which sends all that money up to "to be budgeted" and then we use it to budget for the new month. I have a short video here explaining this "hack" for making the new YNAB work like the old YNAB: ruclips.net/video/aBfz9VEVuUs/видео.html
