This makes me think of a story of a character at the end of a long battle with their enemy and the character is a single blow away from killing them. They look their foe dead in their eyes, and as the MC stares into their enemies' eyes they think of everything that was lost just to get to this point. Everything ends when, after their self reflection, they realise the whole thing was stupid and they just go home.
