I’m looking forward to this. This year I read Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall and am now obsessed with the Brontes. Wuthering Heights is my favourite book of 2017 and will gladly reread it again this January.
So excited to read along! Wuthering Heights is my absolute favorite classic (it's time for a re-read), but I have yet to delve farther into the world of the Brontës. Thanks for hosting!
I haven't read a single Bronte book, so I'm hopefully going to hop on this train and read at least a few next year (which fits in with my goal to read more classics in 2018). How fun and well deserved!
This is so perfect! I just read a biography on the Brontës and I can't wait to read more of their works. Especially Anne's (which I've read none of), Emily's poetry, and Charlotte's Shirley.
Ahhhhhhh this is so exciting! I happen to be reading Agnes Grey now and will hopefully join in for Shirley and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall at the end of the year!!
This is so exciting Lucy!! I already decided that next year I want to read more Classics next year and this gives me the perfect excuse to read some Bronte books which I've wanted to read for ages but have always put off. I'll definitely be taking part next year
So excited for the Brontë Book Club! I will definitely be taking part, it will be a good rereading experience and you can never have too much Brontë, especially during Emily's bicentenary! And I totally agree with you on Shirley's being underrated, the way it explores Industrialisation and love and woman power... Will never be able to express my love for that book. Maybe it has to do with the way Shirley as a character is linked to Emily? Just a tad?
I’ve recently re-read Jane Eyre for the fourth time and read Agnes Grey and Wuthering Heights. I’d love to join you but I don’t want to re-read them that soon. I’ll definitely read Shirley, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall and Vilette.
I love this idea and I'm SO happy you're doing this! Since January 2017 I have been saying that I would start the Bronte's books, but I still haven't bought one and less read one. I have been wanting to read them since last year I got into classics with Jane Austen and your channel makes me want to read the Bronte's books. This will give me the push I need to start them! Even though were I live we are in summer, I can't wait to start Wuthering Heights and hopefully I will be able to read all the books just in time as the club (let's hope uni doesn't take as much time as it did this year, I think this is a lie no one believes). Thank you for doing this and I'm so happy for you!!
Omg, yes, yes, so excited! I have only read wuthering heights and Jane eyre, and i'm willing to read all of their works, it's a great oportunity to re read them and analized them better.
Congrats! I'm currently reading Wuthering Heights because I think it is the perfect book for Christmas and I really love it so far! I'll be watching out for your related videos, will there be a Goodreads group?
Lucy, congratulations! I've discovered your channel pretty recently but I can still tell this is so exciting for you! I loved Wuthering Heights and I'm so excited to have an excuse to pick up more Bronte works--I'm especially looking forward to The Tenant of Wildfell Hall! Will definitely be joining in here on RUclips :)
This is so exciting Lucy!! Huge congratulations you are the perfect person for the job. Ill definitely be joining in im so interested in the brontes and I need to read more of their work xx 😊✨
I subscribed to you a few months back and love your passion for classics! You posted this as I'm delaying writing my Jane Eyre research paper 😂 I'll definitely join in the book club!
Oh my gosh this is going to be the perfect book club. I only read in Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights in my native tongue, I can't attend to read all of their works in English! So happy for you Lucy!
I enjoy your videos about the Brontës because like you, I am crazy about the Brontë sisters. I'd bought and read as many books by them as I could. I believe Anne was underrated and her works were overshadowed by Charlotte's more successful 'Jane Eyre'. I've loved 'Jane Eyre' ever since I read it when I was 15. But when I read Anne's 'The Tenant of Wildfell Hall' in my 20s, I felt the story had more depth and realistic atmosphere where the characters seem to live and it reaches out to the reader. I also love Charlotte's 'Villette'. I sometimes wish BBC would make an adaptation of the novel.
Very well deserved. I hope you will be applying to Oxford University and you can do your D.Phil. on the Brontes. You are so passionate about the Brontes. You are enthusiastic about your subject and it gives me a lift while I am studying at university to see a such a positive young adult. You will go far.
Never shutting up about the Brontës is one of the qualities I love about you and your channel! This is a fantastic idea and it's amazing that it's sponsored by the Brontë Parsonage Museum and Brontë Society! I'm equal parts excited and impressed! One of my lifetime goals is to go on a literary tour of England, which would of course have to include a stop at Haworth. I've reread Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights not too long ago, so I don't know if I'll join you for those. I would love to reread Tenant of Wildfell Hall though!! I'd also like to read some more of Emily's poetry (though I don't own a complete edition of it). And I might throw in a reread of VIllette and a first read of The Professor and some juvenilia, but we'll see. Have I mentioned how excited I am about this yet? I haven't talked about the Brontës on my channel in a little while so I'm definitely overdue :)
Congratulations! That’s a major achievement and you should be very proud! I have to say that I cannot think in no-one better than you for the role of Young Ambassador. The Brontë Parsonage has chosen wisely because I've never seen such a passionate fan of the Brontës in my life. The idea of the reading club is very interesting, and I will try to take advantage of it to read all the Brontë books. Good luck with it and have fun. Best regards!
this is so exciting !! i'm happy for you really, this is an opportunity for me to read more of the Brontë's books so i'm definitely join in just hope i'll be able to read them all next year
Lucy, this is so exciting. I already was going to read Agnes Grey and reread Jane Eyre in 2018, so I will definitely join you. I studied under Professor Deborah Morse in college, and she is a Bronte savant like you! Also, my favorite novel ever is Wide Sargasso Sea, which is a sequel to Jane Eyre from Bertha Mason's point of view. I am so excited to learn more about the Brontes with you.
I met you at the Parsonage I was on the candlight Treasure walk on the 8th DEC 2017 I came in early as it was snowing it was the best thing I've ever done I saw you Sunday I think I'd got to travel back to Cornwall. Ann Dinsdale was doing tour it was great being round table touching and holding personal items. Enjoyed this million's well done. All best Gary
I'm SO EXCITED for this, Lucy! I wish I could visit the Bronte parsonage too. I'm actually planning to go to the UK in summer, so hopefully I will get to go there too :) Needless to say, I will be taking part in your book club - it is such a wonderful idea and I'm so happy for you for getting this opportunity 😊👍
Just ordered the first three books and two of them have the cool covers you have talked about, which for me in the US are called the Penguin English Library edition.
This is amazing! What a dream to have the Brontes as your boss. Haha. :) I've always wanted to visit the Brontë Parsonage. Maybe 2018 is the year to do that!
Congratulations ! I've read most of Brontë's novels. I'm obsessed with their works. My favorite are Jane Eyre and Anne Brontë. The tenant of Wildfell Hall is amazing ! I join you ! I never read poems of Brontë sisters. English isn't my maternal language and I'm terrified by bad traduction since I read a bad traduction of Villette ! I will try to read it in english I'm very excited for your book club ! Thank you !
Hi Lucy. IMA bury my comment to you, here. I am psyched about Vicktober 2018 and will read Wuthering Heights (I shall read Villette first, have the audio book for it, to boot) as well as Jane Eyre, and Both for the First Time! (Do you envy me? I'm a Joycean, educated, just never got into Victorian lit. I'm also very much Post-modern, Pynchon, especially, so a question: I've heard reviews, negative, of Wuthering Heights, it being "boring," but I adore a complex story w plots w/in plots, Ken Follett, et al. Thx for this, Lucy ...
This is perfect timing Lucy! I just decided about a month ago that one of my 2018 reading goals was going to be to read all the Brontes' novels plus I really want to re-read Jane Eyre and Tenant of Wildfell Hall😀. Don't be mad at me but I'm not a fan of Wuthering Heights so I'll skip that one but I'm excited for the rest! I also want to fit in Villette and The Professor (because I've also never read those) as well as The Brontes by Juliet Barker, Life of Charlotte Bronte by Elizabeth Gaskell, and hopefully Take Courage by Samantha Ellis if I can get it from Book Depository 😀. Looking very forward to joining in and seeing your videos 😀💕📚
SO excited for this. Thank you! Am curious if you’re a fan of Villette? Also underrated. Can you please pass on a request to the Bronte Pasonage that they start an Instagram account too? Many thanks!
It's great that you're doing this. I have a question about Emily's poetry: isn't it all about death? That's what deters me from buying a copy, but you make it sound less morbid. I would appreciate a reply. Thanks.
The short answer? Yes. The long answer? It is about death, but also about so much more than that: it's about the cycle of life and death, both in humans and in nature; about a young woman who acts just as a man would; about Have a read of some on the Poetry Foundation and see what you think! My favourites are "The Night is Darkening Round Me", "Love and Friendship", "Shall Earth no more inspire thee", and so many more.
I’m glad to have come across this. I’ve been really into Charlotte Bronte recently but I haven’t read anything by her sisters. I’d be interested. And what a great opportunity for you!
Congrats on the young ambassador position! This is exciting. I'm hoping to join the challenge, and I've never read any of the Brontë sisters' books. The funny thing is that you picked Jane Eyre for May and June, and coincidentally, there's a Jane Eyre retelling set in space that will be out on May 1 in the US. It's called BRIGHTLY BURNING by Alexa Donne.
Damn I already started reading Jane Eyre and listening to wuthering heights this month. I'll stop listening to wuthering heights and start with you in January. All the best
We've still got the rest of the year, plus the Goodreads pages and videos will remain up so if you do get the opportunity to catch up then you can still join in!
lucythereader awesome! Yeah, you've helped me a lot in getting into classics, it's just finding the time to read them, I finally got great expectations...you recommended it to me on in stag ram 😄
Terrific idea! Off the topic, however, do you mind telling me about the cosmetics you use? You are such a lovely young woman, and I admire the eye makeup and lipstick shade you are wearing. Can you share the brands and colors? Sorry if this it intrusive! Thanks!
I get scared about books like this, mostly because I love them. The social climate says I shouldn't like those characters. I get tired of hearing my fav characters get bashed. I really hope it expands beyond that. The psychology and social temperment of that time and the like, please.
Give me motivation, I'm reading Wuthering Heights but I can't understand the language or love the book, I liked Jane Eyre, I'm only 3 chapters in... please help a sister out :0 Maybe this will motivate me more

Howarth is beautiful. Love their little display books with the sisters ' tiny writing. 🥰
