Fun fact: Birds are also seed spreaders as the seeds are dropped in their fecal matter. In fact, some trees rely on this as a form of reproduction. So losing a bird species could cause an ecological collapse.
I think your conclusion is not fully accurate. Species can emerge and go extinct later due to several reasons. Then another species may replace them which may play a similar role in that certain ecological system. There were 5 big species extinction in the past, but ecological systems were not collapsed, just changed over time.
Love this comment as it highlights how interconnected species are and how the loss of a species can potentially have so many effects! Plus so many variables to think of too such as types of birds, types of plants, and how much biodiversity exists in the food web as that can impact its resilience. Pinned this comment as we'd love to hear more thoughts about potential consequences with the decreasing bird🐦 population example in this video from viewers. To add - this reminds us - a video on keystone species should be added to our list for the future!
@@AmoebaSisters Yes! I can't emphasize enough how important keystone species are! Yellowstone is always one of my favorite examples of how the return of a species can have such a huge impact on the ecosystem. I am studying wildlife conservation as my bachelor's degree, and I always refer to that example in particular. There's hundreds of great examples out there, but Yellowstone's Wolf Project is one of my favorites.
We are going to learn about this in January when schools reopen. Thanks amoeba sisters. Hopefully, this video will give me an advantage over the others in my class. Actually, this video broke down the topic in my biology textbook making it easier to grasp.
Not gonna lie I was pleasantly surprised to be faced with such an interesting topic! Yess I do very much want to know more now!!!, thanks for the video you worked hard on 🫂💓
