Right now we can't really help anyone even if they want to be taught. 1. In the lam rim we are told that until we achieve shamatha, we are not even fit to work for the good of living beings. 2. Until we're an irreversible Bodhisattva (shamatha, vipassana and four immeasurables will ensure Bodhicitta never falls back), we are unable to benefit beings without harming ourselves in the process. I guess that's where the expression "no good deed goes unpunished" was born from lol 3. The buddha said that compassion without wisdom is bondage. Wisdom without compassion is bondage. So first wisdom, and then compassion if we wish to perfectly benefit. And yes, we cannot benefit those who don't wish to be benefited (put the teachings into practice and realize them). This is why samsara is still full. No matter though. Karmapa says the aspiration alone will make us happy. We mustn't be so goal oriented in a sense that we mustn't be fixed on hoping that things will work out in the future, and fearing that they won't. How can we benefit others if no one is interested in Dharma in our environment? By not speaking and doing mantras? I'm in communist country
