If it was not for this show I would not have known about Dame Elizabeth at all. WOW. Thank you Dame and thank you Queen Janet. What an achievement, WOW.
As a carrier of SC Disease, I thank you Dame Elizabeth Anionwu for your dedication and service to our people and bringing this disease to the attention of the world. 💐💐💐💐 I also thank you, Miss Jackson, for making yourself available to present this award to Dame Anionwu. May God continue to bless you both!
My mother, a Guyanese, moved to Canada in 1968, When I was a very young child in the 70s my mother, a registered nurse (and daughter and sister of registered nurses), she demanded that I be tested for sickle cell anemia. Apparently it was something that was not done in Toronto and it may be that I was the first to be tested for it. Luckily I did not have it. Thank you Dame Elizabeth for all your hard work. It is my hope that your efforts are spread throughout the African Diaspora.
That's actually sad because where are the black kangs and their help when it comes to civil rights, empowerment and black excellence or are black women expected to carry everyone on their shoulders (as usual) within their community.
Thank YOU Dame Elizabeth Anionwu, I'm surprised you haven't been getting any recognition when they do Igbo Awards or Nigerian in Diaspora awards, you're truly a queen and I'm super proud to be your Igbo brother. You should be a highly titled lady here.
My parents' 1st child died of sickle cell anemia 2 weeks before his 2nd birthday. Thank you Elizabeth, Janet Jackson and everyone involved in the research for the cure of sickle cell anemia.
I have sickle cell disease and even though it was more well known in the US, care has only recently begun to become more humane and patient centered. I’m so grateful for people like her who are making the lives of others better ❤
My daughter has full blown Sickle Cell Anaemia also and suffered so much especially when she was a baby and toddler. The blood disorder was recognised as a chronic, debilitating illness and individuals with it able to claim disability living allowance. However, because the illness is seen as a "black" disease (majority of people affected are black or from Mediterranean decent) and the blatant racism that exist in England, individuals with this blood disorder no longer qualify for this benefit. It is so disgusting in this country. Yet chronic illnesses such as Cystic Fibrosis or any others where the majority affected are not black people, they remain entitled to this benefit. If this isn't another example of blatant racism and inequality, then I don't know what is.
Thank you Mrs. Anionwu for your Dedication ,Determination and Hard work for the research and for Sickle Cell Anemia . Congratulations and very well deserved. We love you and God Bless You!🙏🏽🕊
I am a Guyanese, I do not have the sickle cell virus but I have relatives who have the traits. Thanks to Elizabeth it is not a death sentence. Thank you, Thank you and Thank you for your tenacity.
I have a niece with sickle cell and she has battled with pain that one can not even imagine. My niece just graduated as a Dr. against all odds!! It is such a privilege to watch Dame Elizabeth and the many lives she has helped.
Dame is an living legend icon trail blazer inspiration...i say, thank you too...for this women, black history momeny. Prayers up. Continue to help and knowledge the world
Wow, that's impressive! What a woman! What a force! Congratulations Dame Elizabeth Anionwu, and thank you for all the lives you have saved! 🙏🙏✝✝💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐👏👏👏👏👏👏
Awesome women. My siblings suffer from sickle cell and thalassemia. It great to know the medical industry is doing something right for black people and these diseases.
Beautiful spirited woman is truly an angel. God bless you for a job well done 👏 Dr. Thank you, Janet Jackson, for that touching tribute and support of this queen. You two are extraordinary, and God sent
I lost my close friend Kwame to sickle cell when he was just 17 years old. It was the 80s and back then there was such a stigma about it here in Ghana that none of us knew he was suffering. He was a shining ray of light, full of goodness, always happy and hopeful. It broke my heart. It broke all of our hearts. I pray that a cure will be found so that no one ever has to suffer from this disease. Thank you Dame Elizabeth for all you do.
I watched that movie as a child , along with uptown Saturday night and a pice of the action. I have never forgotten it!. I am now a medical doctor and still remain "her crises and pain" from the movie . It was beautifully done and documented the struggle of so many.
Wow! That brought tears to my eyes. What an incredible woman! Congratulations Dame Elizabeth Anionwu. Thank you for your dedication and service to others. You rock. And thanks Janet for attending and presenting her the award.
This is the proper example of a Celebrity (Meaning people to celebrate) for their achievements, not all those shameless Instagram this or TV Show twitter that.....
The phenomenal strength, activism and perseverance of this AMAZING Black nurse who saw Black people (who were suffering and UNDERSERVED) is FOREVER POWERFUL!!! She is truly inspiring!!!

That was truly wonderful. I hope one day more scientists, teachers, doctors and others who contribute to improving our world 🌍 are honored and supported like this... I don't think this exists in America 🇺🇸 😢
*Congratulations Dame Elizabeth Anionwu!* I applaud your efforts, strength and fortitude. Thank you for heightening awareness. Nice to see Janet Jackson who is - and always has been - my favorite solo artist. She is always graceful, dignified and kind. *I lost a very good friend (named Olevia} to Sickle Cell Anemia. We'd known each other since we were in our late teens, early twenties. I was by her bedside when she took her last breath. Her parents were told she would not live to be 10. She lived to be 57!*
Thissss!!! What an amazing story and achievement. Sadly, I have never heard of this beautiful Queen before. I don’t recall learning about her in school. Smh…

There was a movie called, "A Warm December" (1971) and the main character has sickle cell anemia. The movie was directed and starred Sidney Poitier.
