terrible balance back then. remember the glass cannon wizards that had only damage bonuses and health regen? couldn't die. each tick they regained full health. these builds were botted and ran to the endgame from day one.
Nah, with the amount of people playing the game, even 0.001% drop rates would happen every day. No need to tinker with the system, if doing nothing works fine and is cheaper.

Your only bet really is to play the old mmo's with established communities and not bother with modern stuff. MMO's feel like too big of a project in this current cash-grabby market for it to be a quality game worth your time and money. Riot's mmo might be the next good one, we'll see

DFO is such a good game with really in-depth fight mechanics. Underrated, but sadly never caught on in the west.
I still play it but it’s kinda awful in too many ways to catch on. Very obtuse with endless depth in mundane gearing. 99.9% of content is irrelevant and all that matters is the last few dungeons.
It’s sad because so much of the content is absolutely phenomenal and cool but it’s currently all just there to 1 shot to lvl up to lvl 100 and makes for a super boring grind.
I can’t get a single person to stick with the game and I don’t blame them even tho I loved this game since I was little
@@Buhllake agreed. I would spend full days in pvp during nexon and neople releases of DFO. Sadly other than the 20 or so dedicated pvp’ers. The pvp lag is a turn off for a lot of people.

So this has been going on forever since the advent of MMO's.
I really love dfo. Haven't played it in a very long time but I am really happy to see its alive and well. I never spent any money on it though. I might go back again to play it someday, such a fun game with great 2d sprite animations.
This issue was not impactful enough to DFOG for it to even be noticeable to even the Auction Hawk. Neople could have very easily swept this entire drama under the rug. Instead they exposed themselves and even took a pretty hefty financial hit in compensating us handsomely. The items every player in the game got could easily value in the hundreds of dollars. This speaks volumes to Neople's commitment to upholding their reputation. That alone deserves a ton of respect in my eyes.
I just wish the game wasn't like Lost Ark...where u need multiple alts to be competitive, thus treating it as a 2nd job, and not to mention the huge amounts of gatekeeping and toxicity in Total War and ispins, bakal, etc.
@@Josef217 You could argue some of the endgame is gatekept absolutely, but outside of Bakal (the top tier raid), you can solo all the others or create your own party.
@@Josef217 uh nah, where do u think lost ark got its 6 alt shit from, dfo is a super ult focused game, it even has content where u take in 3 of your alts as npc's for a party in a dungeon or a boss rush where u bring in 2 and tag them out like its marvel vs capcom. Worse was u couldnt even funnel a whole lot before lost ark got bigger and they had to make a change to where only half your mats where bound.

It's old content, and people don't do it after a week or so because your AI controlled alts consumed cube fragments, so they just use the AI defaults given to you by the GMs. You can still do it now though, but more likely than not, you can just solo it rather than have your AI alts do anything at all.
Nah people grinded out callisium for many things but yes once 95 cap was over it was forgotten. The guide mode for raids people also did, more so newbies to start farming mats for raid gear earlier. Mostly late in 100 cap they added exiles mountain which was only solo mode with your alts which was the only place to farm talismans for higher level skills and more rerollers for them. In 110 cap there is noblesse which is like slay the spire u pick a route kinda dungeon but u only play 1 character at a time that u brought in for each encounter node, no AI. The epics that drop in it, u can distribute among your 4 alts. gearing 4 characters at once is crazy good. @@LChaos2
I played so much DFO back in the day and picked it back up when it hit Steam. All the problems aside I was so enraptured with the concept basically being a Streets Of Rage MMO.
It's really good - I just hate it when the game updates I have to reallocate and reassign my skills
It was one of my favorite games ever until havkers singled out my account and hacked it three different times, took all my avatars and items they could and on the third time deleted all my characters and hard work out of spite. Neoples security for their game is SUUUUUPER BAD, even with the forced goblin pad change and forced password resets. Gave up after losing it and all the progress for the 3rd time.
How does someone pay taxes on something like this? I wonder if there's actually paperwork for. "I did crimes but I'll pay taxes"

There's a good reason why DFO hasn't taken off in the west, especially now. DFO is just like Lost Ark.
DFO has: Bots, huge p2w, needing alts to stay competitive or do things MUCH slower, super hard endgame that punishes everyone in a party, awful enchanting and enhancing rates that results in breaking ur gear, gatekeeping is huge in endgame, so much elitism and toxicity in endgame, game will turn into a 2nd job, etc.
Sounds like BLACK DESERT ONLINE 2.0 to me yet the game is still doing well globally across multiple platforms

Nobody denies the fact that these games are doing well. The point is that they suck.
P2W aspects can be essentially ignored if you like actually. Plenty of people end up at raids without whaling whatsoever. Comparing the gameplay and difficuly is super disingenuous as it's a literal side scroller fighting game essentially, your just saying you have bad mechanics. It probably has alot less to do with fight design and alot more to do with you as a player, although I highly doubt you've raided in this game. Enchanting and enhancing is actually much more forgiving than in any other game including LA because your not going to break until after +12/+6 and you actually don't need to go past that ever. Going for high enhancement is like a leader board or a whale thing so people can bus easily. Literally no idea what you are smoking with enchantments, buy bead put bead on gear it's that easy. If you are balling buy card, make bead put bead on.

Well me personally, i decided to not play it ( played it on the beta) cus it had 4 models for mobs, 2 models for houses, every town was the same, pvp was the worst thing i've ever seen , combat was HORRIBLE, the enviroment was horrible... Everything was just.. disgustingly bad EXCEPT the gathering system.
it was overall a very bad game that i have no idea how it managed to create such a hype behind it.. out of the 30+ mmorpgs i've played in the past 20 years, New world is definetly the worst or at least in the top 3 worst.
The bugs are just the cherry on the top...
At least Lost ark had some VERY Good things going on for it.. like the combat, the boss fights and the pvp... it had VERY bad systems though, which made it look like a job and it was RNG fiesta + p2w.
BUT at least it had something going on for it.

I used to be addicted to DFO both when it was published by Nexon and when it got republished by Neople. You can have a lot of fun in that game without paying a dime, in fact I don't think I ever spent money on it once. I found that when Neople was in charge they made sure F2P players got rewarded for their time, probably because F2Pers were the ones keeping the game alive for the whales though, which isn't a bad business model lmao.
Gold selling and bots always were a huge problem so I'm glad to see they're actually proactive with shutting this kind of stuff down, I don't think Nexon would have ever noticed that, their moderation team for MapleStory isn't the greatest...

i rember back then when ragnarok online where so massive and popular in early 2000's. lots GM's become curropted their selling high value boss card to money. this was ragnarok ph server. it was a great fall down. i still feel nostalgic about that game
That’s why I got all those items holy shit lmao. That compensation is actually insane and people are way underpricing it saying it’s 30-50 dollars of stuff.
The rare clone avatars by themselves are upwards of 100s of dollars to get a full set not including the weapon, the skin on top etc it’s like 150 dollars minimum I’d say if someone were to try and buy this stuff.
Most of its not available in the cash shop either and is never really sold or given out ever. There’s these stupid ass gacha pot type things exclusively for whales that contain these types of items and god knows how much it costs them to get these items from that.
its more funny cuz we knew about the super GM incident before Spectre even came to global. But the super GM event + Spectre release state and level up event getting to pic BIS epics and methic and go straight into Ozma chaos 3 with out rare avatars had the korean players super pushed. She felt super duper pushed and alot left for lost ark at that time.
When I was living in Korea and worked in a video game company, everyone was playing DFO. It was nuts how people were so into that game when it isn't that great game, imo. There are much better games, but this game was completelly different.

6:20 - this is what happened to The Cycle. They got over run by cheaters and you did not know if you were downed by a cheater or someone that was good.
Why do I have the feeling something like this could be discovered with Maplestory. Maplestory has had a long history of hackers and tons of speculation of Nexon turning a blind eye to the problem for the sake of profit and controlling the economy of the game.
They didn't turn a blind eye, it was just that the hackers were good at their jobs, and there was some vetting required to get ahold of premium trainers. The guy who made the bizzaro trainer made millions, and nexon even tried to sue the website. The people botting were also making hundreds to thousands of dollars a month. The trainer could even detect GMs that were invisible which made it very hard for gms to catch. Gold was also funneled to accounts that spent tons of money on nx points because nexon was always less likely to ban those accounts.
Funny you mention that. Since the korean communityfound out about this *super GM* event 2 summers ago a few months after Maple had the flame fiasco and where caught lying for like 8 years. On top of the new class that came out that had an even that basically let them skip a year and a half of farm right into the newest raid and max difficulty.and where also the dps strongest class by a mile, This all right as lost ark got its shit together in season 2. and Linage 2 fucked up which is why so many korean players left to lost ark, it was 3 big games fucking up in a spam of a few months.

This could have easily gotten swept up without a single person knowing anything. The dfo team put themselves out on a limb big time by putting themselves out there and actually apologizing and giving every player a really high value free package.

I used to play DFO fairly hardcore during college.
the last time i played (1 and half years ago), the max capacity of shared stash is about 1.5 billion gold.
This guy basically sold enough gold to fill 30000 people's war chest at the time.
FIY, the peak population of this game in recent years are about 30k.
Also, I was consider to be farily rich in my guilds at one point (late 2021) and i have about 700m gold in cash.
Note: these information are not adjusted with inflation which i do not know what the current state is, but over the 6 years I played inflation wasn't that apparent unless you're trading actively in billions.
This is common in chinese MMOs. the RMT work for the company. and when they get really desperate they start hacking accounts and stealing all your stuff. and you can't do anything about it because the company keeps giving them your login info. shoutout to Snail games - Age of Wushu. Great game but scummy practices.

Korea is a small market (relative to US + CA + EU), of course they're going to have to monetise heavily to make the economics work. For what they're working with, they've put out some amazing stuff even if it's not to our taste, and deserve respect.

A lot of fps gamers will try their best to defeat the cheat, ESPECIALLY in CS:GO, if you can get the cheater in csgo to do more suspicious things, it garners more reports from anyone in the game watching, and more evidence in the post game video which is downloadable which they review for bans.
I honestly doubt it has "850 million active players", or has made $20 billion. 1/8th of the world's population isn't playing this game. Third party estimates are more like 1.5 million, which is believable- even if it's "super big in China", they have 4x the population of the US, not 50x. The simple explanation is that they're inflating the numbers, not that it's the sleeper biggest game in history.
It's way too old to believe it has nearly a tril active players. There's no way. There'd be CLIPS on RUclips at the very least, within anyone's circle, if so.

I never understood why Korean MMO's are even popular. Their major selling point is almost always Graphics, "Action combat" and PVP. Yet you literally see almost all KR MMO players constantly hop MMO's whenever a new one pops which to me says they have no loyalty or that those said games have no real interest and it's just those 3 factors that make people like the KR MMO "genre".
A streamer once said. Theres one reason a KR will hop to another MMO, and thats if it makes them money.

DFO is one of the most profitable videogames in history. It's developers got so rich that the company was basically able to buy an island in korea as their headquarters. They moved to Jeju Island, where they bought housing for their employees, funded schools and colleges, spent money on actual infrastructure development, owns shops and funds cultural events there.
DFO was also THE mmo of China for a very long time to the point where it was able to influence modern gaming culture there. For example the award winning chinese webnovel "The King's Avatar" based its combat mechanics and class skills on DFO. It's just that DFO for a long time was dedicated to the pixel art style which alienated the west that kept pushing for higher graphics and photorealism.
do also note Crossfire is like the fps in china for a long time and the kings avatar author was a huge fan of that, so the controls and pov of Glory is like crossfire, but yeah all the classes and skills are straight from dfo. Funny enough alot of classes and things in lost ark are based off dfo and smilegate makes most its money crossfire in china

That is false, Jeju island has many other business buildings and their buildings are not that exotic at all. The neople building is pretty close to the nexon museum building and other business buildings. The island is part of South Korea, but the whole island is not owned by Neople lol.

I guess what you are implying is that Neople had a huge influence on the things you are saying, but I did like ro say it was Nexon who took a grand influence in there. That's what I want to correct, who rules on their sales, marketing plans and such, are Nexon in SKR and Tencent in China.
And the building Neople is now it just part of a city business buildings park, so probably is rented.
Though gotta say, back then they just had a small office and used to do the highlights for updates in Power Point, to now they do festivals shows and such events, it's a really huge growth and respect in 18 years they are working on DNF.

Sir, raids still take an hour for a while on release. Farming and eventual power creep put things into 1 shot farm yes which actually does keep things more fun then having to go through the paces super hard every time which is a problem in lost ark. They also have put out alot more weekly content for like 2-3 years now where u arnt 1 shotting them for many months after when it should be on farm.

oh it stopped being a simple arcade side scroller with rpg elements tagged on like 3 years after it came out lol. Alot of people through the years come into it seeing the graphics and assuming as much find out its a mmorpg and leave, but it rly stopped being anything like that after the leveling phase as they developed the end game. Now a days its much more like FF14 alliance style raids mixed with gearing similar to PoE but still with the skill tree. @@ringthatkill

DFO was one of the most influential and most influenced game, it had an anime adaptation called "Arad Senki" and a Chinese animation inspired by it called "Kings Avatar" even the some of the gacha that came out of China had influence from it such as hoyoverse, design-wise. Sad that IP wasn't manage properly, I hope that project AK will have a good luck on release.
oh its even had an actual chinese adaptation funded by tencent that had 2 seasons. The dfo mobile game china tried to make didnt do well, Neople released in KR and its doing super well it even won mobile game of the year in korea last year. Its basically dfo classic. Also since not shit peer2peer netcode the pvp is actually better then the og pvp when u play it on the pc port.
IP was managed properly, just that the Chinese brand make a big miss with Mobile DFO in their home market where they have to compete with bigger competitions. DNF Duel is great, just that there were a lot of good established IP before them.

at 12:45 Asmon says in dfo 7 trillion may not be that much money since games tend to have that kind of numbers in their economy, but i do play DFO and lemme tell ya, 7T is an stupid ammount, most expensive stuff in the auction house can go up to 300-650million gold and those are rare/usefull/strong items, Max value an item can have on the auction house is 1 Billion so, 7 trillion is just way too much to be generated out of thin air, it was rough.
DFO was so fucking fun. So, so good. But like all good things, being able to pay money slowly ruined it
its been p2w from the start buddy it just took a year to get to where money mattered in vanilla dfo back in 2008-2011 lol. However when they added raids in 2016 u could get int with very little gear it had alot of roles u could fill but yes not the dps carry. The raid after that was a mess with to high gear req, the following raids they learned and raids would come out in about the time it took to farm the gear to enter and u could done this on several characters at once. The p2w with the title's aura, pets, amping, lets u flex on others and bus content but u can play the game as f2p not like a job in hours spent and do all content at max difficulty fairly easily and on again several characters at once.
But yes its scummy as hell that many gear slots are basically there to buy shop items for them. or flip them on the market to players for gold.

Dungeon Fighter got such insane revenue is largely due to its most loyal customers in South Korea and more importantly, China. This incident might have shattered the Chinese legit player market and made an example of that employee to intimidate the cheaters inside China and gold sellers that uses admin in China.

6:23 yes true and is also true on animal survival games like you are a predator you start hunting prey cuz your bar hunger is low then suddenly the prey vanish and you die of hunger turns out that the prey was actually a MOD who then use /spawn to respawn somewhere else i know this because i witness it in pat of titans i was a baby saw and adult running we where the same species then they stop and teleported away quick and right after they vanish a ceratos appear behind and died slowly , this was in veloccis realm, now i know it was a MOD because you simply dont log out completely you have to wait a min to remove your body from the serves then log out even if you crash your body stays in one spot so the only conclusion of their instant transmission is that they use commands to teleport and yes there are command like /respawn to be use for everyone but it actually kills your character so yeah we have MODs that cheat death by just teleporting away and then carnivores are force to die just because the MODs doesnt want their prey character to die like that's the point of the game you know the cycle of fucking life

I can answer your question about cheating and or glitching in a pay to win game. GTA5 has shark cards making it pay to win and I know people that have glitched cars to duplicate them and sell them for tons of in game money. There account did not get banned as they just patch the glitches and do not really take your money away / ban your account unless its blatantly obvious.
