I saw Rainbow in '98(early). In Minnesota. At the show there was a flier announcing the first Blackmore's Night album. I thought " what the hell is that going to sound like?". Then I remembered the intro to 16th century Greensleeves,, and was intrigued. When I first heard Shadow of the Moon. I was blown away. Carry on Ritchie!!!!!

Great work to whomever put this documentary together 👍
    9'59 - Why it was
    called Ritchie.
    Blackmore's
    Rainbow
I have heard part of this interview befire.
I now know its been deliberately edited to make it look like Ritchie is super selfish and that Ronnie Dio had a problem with him from Day One.
    Pragmatic Reality
Deep Purple's management wanted to milk as much revenue as they could from Ritchie's association with Purple.
    WTF ? ? ?
Another change to Purple would be career ending.
    It was!
It was softly announced in the UK that Blackmore was leaving Purple in late April 1975.
NOTE - Deep Purple were 10 to 14 million albums of Zeppelin in world world sales at the time !
Blackmore leaving Purple in April '75 saw Deep Purple- MkIV end 11 months later with an album that only sold 600,000 worldwide sales, a far cry from the 5 million of Made in Japan two years earlier.
    RAINBOW
The first Rainbow album was released amongst this mess.
    It cost them dearly.
    It sold poorly.
No one knew what this was.
Even worse, die hard Blackmore fans had had enough.
Once hard core Purple fans changed tgeir allegiance to Queen.
This was the real boost to Queen's huge 1975 popularity!
    First Rainbow Album:
Many fans and critcs consider Rainbow's first album their best with songs like:
    Man on the Silver Mountain,
Snake Charmer, Temple of the King and others.
Sales stunned the record company & management. They too were stuck in 1973.
    Reality Bites
Even die hard fans get tired of change for the sake of change.
As was quickly mentioned by Ronnie DIO.
WE became bigger the year after I left !
    This was true.
Roger Glover who had joined Rainbow in '79 said:
I joined at the wrong time. I couldn't believe
the huge album sales of the Dio first three studio albums'
I cannot find exact figures for these sales. The sales are as low as 5 million but go as high as 9 million!
