  • A fox trot song from 1923
    Words by Marjorie Lamkin
    Music by Lucile Alcus
    Lyrics
    1. My heart grows sad and lonely
As days and weeks go past
Each hour seems but a second
And the seconds fly so fast
There are moments when I long, dear
To end my doubts and fears
I’d like to make each hour a day, dear
And each day a million years
    Refrain
I want a million years with nothing to do
I want a million years with no one but you
I want a century of sympathy
    And eternity for two
I want a golden age of wonderful smiles
I’ll go for years with you for millions of miles
I want a place apart, safe in your heart
To life a millions years alone with you
    2. The world is getting colder
    That’s how the story goes
    You, dear, are growing older
And soon your life must close
I want to keep you as you are, dear
    To drive away my cares
I’d like to love you and protect you
    Throughout a million years

This delightful little song from 1923 is by two young women from Clarksdale, Mississippi. It was self-published by Marjorie Lamkin. I can't find any info on these women, but there was obviously talent here.
