    Audi is making its production fit for the future with the smart factory. In this factory of the future, big data - the creation and intelligent connection of large volumes of data - will facilitate data‑driven and thus highly flexible and highly efficient manufacturing. A method of production in which Audi might no longer build its cars on an assembly line but according to a radically new, disruptive concept is modular assembly. In addition to this major project, Audi is pursuing many other exciting projects for the production of the future - from the application of virtual‑reality glasses to metal 3D printing.
    Modular assembly.
    The complexity of automobile production is increasing. New market needs, customer expectations and the legislative framework are increasingly requiring innovative technologies and differing vehicle versions. This means that the fixed timing of the assembly line is becoming less efficient. The more the number of derivatives and variants grows, the more difficult it becomes to master high complexity and integrate new routines into the rigid, sequential process.
    Audi intends to meet this challenge and to develop a completely new principle for it: modular assembly. With this method, small, separate workstations allow highly flexible working routines - in terms of both time and space. Between those workstations, driverless transport systems take over the transport of the car bodies as well as the parts required for production. A central computer precisely controls the driverless transport systems - it recognizes the needs of each individual station, thus ensuring a smooth workflow.
    Audi assumes that modular assembly will result in 20 percent better productivity than the assembly lines of today. It is now being applied for test purposes at the engine plant in Győr, Hungary, and application is planned in two further projects.
    At present, the key principles of this innovative production system are being worked out and tested by arculus - a startup company established a few months ago.
    The Technical Center for Production Assistance Systems.
    The new driverless transport systems required for modular assembly are being created in Audi’s Technology Development Production Assistance Systems department. This small department has developed two types of driverless vehicle: One of them moves under control by a computer, the other moves autonomously on a defined route. Three onboard laser scanners allow the driverless transport systems to orient themselves and to recognize and avoid potentially critical situations. Audi developed the navigation software itself. It is based on automotive software and automotive‑software development processes.
    The main task of the Technical Center for Production Assistance Systems is to work on new production technologies in early stages of their development. In addition to driverless transport systems, it is also working on four other projects. They comprise safe cooperation between humans and machines when working in the same space, assembly tables with assistance functions and two innovative robots: a flexible gripper arm and a special lightweight robot.
    The Audi Production Lab.
    The Audi Production Lab, abbreviated as P‑Lab, develops and supports innovative projects for the production process - often starting with the very first idea. The department currently has five permanent employees andhas already helped to bring innovations such as metal 3D printing, human‑robot cooperation, driverless transport systems and the use of augmented reality at Audi towards series application.
    The projects currently running in the P‑Lab include two big‑data projects. One of them focuses on the early recognition of mistakes in the placement of screws and bolts; the other examines the flow of components in the area of international logistics for the CKD plants (completely knocked down). Another major subject for the Audi Production Lab is data glasses. They can provide effective support for employees in production, for the planners and engineers in the factory of the future - with assisted reality, augmented reality and virtual reality.
    Toolmaking.
    Several future-oriented projects are running in Audi’s Toolmaking division. The structure of the new generation of press tools follows nature, with many parts made of aluminum and plastics. This reduces the weight of those tools, which until now has been up to 45 tons, by up to 20 percent and the energy required decreases by about ten percent. The result is enhanced precision in the forming of sheet‑metal parts.
    The press shop, where the tools are applied, uses the latest measuring technology. The goal is to develop a complete data chain for each sheet‑metal part. The data chain already begins with the suppliers of steel and aluminum. This is another way in which Audi is enhancing its precision.

      Robotics will be creating a gap between the haves and the have nots that will be as great as the gap between apes and humans. The society of humans with access to the benefits of these incredible robotic factories will be separated from a society of humans whose existence will grow more and more primitive and destitute. Human Greed can not be satiated.

      You need humans to create robots and humans wont ever create a robot that doesnt need humans or can "live" independently.

    • @davidhamilton506

      *Hyrule Hero*....Aha, but who's to say that extremely high tech robots will not be able to create more robots. The era of *science non-fiction* has arrived, so that maybe stock holders will own a vehicle manufacturing plant, but the entire factory will be entirely automated, with vehicles coming off the production lines without a single human interaction. Supplies to the factory I imagine, would continue as normal. I tend to think that's it's doable, but of course it's how we humans initially programme the robots in the first place...

    • @cooltwittertag
      @cooltwittertag 7 лет назад +1

      David Hamilton Because Robots have a program made by a human, they cannot just get their own personality and build more robots because they are NOT made of carbon. They are NOT living creatures and they won't ever be, because for a true artificial intelligence, you would need to reconstruct the human brain, wich is not possible. EVERY robot follows a step by step program, even those "self learning" robots.

    That assembly is slow but they can run it 24/7 365 plus with the google glass and HTC virtual reality, anyone can be taken off the street, trained to do anything and be ready to go in 24 hrs, so if anyone doesn't like how things are, they can easily be replaced. Also, with no conveyors because of the drones and free moving machines, some trucks can pull up and offload all that stuff, and anywhere can instantly be turned into a production facility. You don't need to take forever to set up a traditional assembly line based production facility with conveyor belts and heavy machinery that's fixed in place and takes forever to move if you wan't to adjust your production line.

    Joking aside are those just driving slow cause the next operation is a slight bottleneck anyway and they're only driving the speed to get there on time, or is that as fast as they go anywhere in the production line?

      10:30 is clearly about Smart Engineering, an integral part of smart factories. Regarding all other points: This video clearly presents no more than a manufacturer's first steps in exploring smart factory solutions. That is the whole smart factory concept: just develop new tech. Applications will be found anyway, if not now than in the near future.

    • @piebepost8887
      @piebepost8887 7 лет назад +13

      It IS not without workers. Just their roles will change. Smart factories allow for more complex and thus labor intensive products; which now may be beyond imagination. The nature of human labor will evolve alongside product complexity. Humans simple repeating tasks will be overtaken by robots, humans will switch to tasks that are too complex for {payable} robots. Secondly, smart factories will allow for production in the western world that right now is outsourced to low wage countries.

      If they have automated factories like this set up then humans won't have to work. Someone could just submit a design into an automated factory, and if someone likes that design and orders it then the factory can automatically reconfigure itself because of no conveyor belts or machinery that's fixed in place and make the product that person ordered so no materials are even used until someone has already payed and ordered. The designer then gets a percentage of each item sold. You're telling me you couldn't design a car or piece of clothing or other product that people would buy? In general, people think too small. Always looking to someone else to give them something to do that they can get paid for instead of generating their own wealth.

      A lot of jobs are already lost because of foreign factories. This could bring back them to Western countries

      denn Roboter bauen und entwickeln sich von selbst... es werden sich lediglich die Berufsfelder ändern und arbeiten werden fehlerfreier und sicherer...

      Pr04basher ja die Entwicklung und Herstellung der Roboter, aber das wird dann auch automatisiert, aber danach heißt es villt. 1 Techniker der 5 Robot überwacht und wartet.

      und dennoch sind Firmen auf der ganzen Welt auf der suche nach abeitern... allein in dieser Region hier, werden für solche Arbeiten ca. 300 Arbeiter gesucht... und das für nur eine Firma... und sollte sich das irgendwas wirklich auf die Arbeitslosigkeit auswirken, sollte man eher das System ändern... dann muss eben keiner mehr 12h am Tag arbeiten, um das selbe zu verdienen, da es ja ein Roboter macht... hier ist dann eben die Politik gefragt
      es müssten mehr Menschen arbeiten können, weil man sich am Ende die Arbeit teilt, die noch von Hand gemacht werden muss... das ersparte Geld darf eben nicht zu 100% in der Tasche der Firma landen... aber bis wir an dem Punkt sind, an dem das relevant ist, ist es noch ein weiter weg

      Sehe ich positiver, auch dieser "Vorsprung durch Technik" ist es, welcher Arbeitsplätze fernab Ländern niedrigeren Lohnniveaus erhält wie erneuert.
