I randomly got super into The Weekend, and I've been listening to all his songs on repeat. I never used to be a big fan of this song when I was younger, but actually hearing the lyrics and understanding it...it's so deep. Many of his songs are so deep.
It's about a Stripper who was abused as a child and consequently only belives her body has worth. "She was numb and she was so co-dependant" as well as " She was young and she was forced to be a woman" show that she was a child when she was abused. This song is not only deep but really Dark.
That is the sad truth. This song is about a young woman who has mental troubles because of what she went through. It is sad that people don’t understand.
The first time I listened to it, it was my least favorite song on BBTM (somehow). Listened to it again the next day and went into the top 5 in one listen. It’s amazing
*For those who don't understand:* Though upbeat in tempo, “In the Night” explores dark themes following a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, similar to the “horror stories” told on The Weeknd’s debut studio album, Kiss Land. The New York Times describes “In the Night” as the album’s most electric moment. The song is reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe’s survival story - American actress and model was sexually abused as a child and often spoke out about it in the media. Interestingly, Marilyn Monroe was able to use her sexuality as a source of healing, becoming known as “America’s Most Famous Sex Symbol.” In an interview with GQ, The Weeknd speaks about this inspiration: Max’s studio used to be Marilyn Monroe’s old house and I came up with the concept for a song called “In the Night” in her bedroom. That was pretty amazing. Unfortunately I couldn’t help but imagine Joe DiMaggio’s sperm everywhere on the floor. The Weeknd also revealed further inspiration to the The New York Times, stating the song was made in homage to Michael Jackson. When first played for music publisher, Ron Perry, screamed with excitement:
This song is so sad, i remember being obsessed with it when I first heard it. My mind wouldn’t really function at the time but now that I’m 13, the lyrics are understandable and it breaks my heart.
I heard this when I was 13 too, and listening to the song again. I still enjoyed it, but after reading the comments, I never thought that it was about a girl who was abused, became a stripper.
It’s funny how kids nowadays think they “know” what this shit feels like, almost as if y’all are trying to be adults, but trust me, you’re far from being one, heck I’m an adult and still don’t feel like one! And being an adult isn’t a pretty feeling, but Netflix sure makes it seem cool, right? Smh
@@SachKol what the fuck are you talking about? just because teenagers are young doesn’t mean they don’t go through shit? you think just because you pay taxes you’ve been through life? lmao get a grip, i work with kids and teens and their stories will make a grown woman cry. they go through it too.
@@SachKol people can go through sexual assault and become hypersexual at literally any age bro. I agree that this new generation acts more mature than they should but something like this happens
This is my favourite lyric video cause the background just fits the song so well. A girl's eye who looks about as powerful as the Weeknd describes. It only adds to the energy of the song.
This song makes me sad lol 😅 a woman psychologically conditioned into being unable to live without the humiliating life of being pimped out to horrible men. I think that's why he sings "I don't think you understand" because it's a catchy song on the outside until we actually listen to it
The references to being raped and how she’s haunted by it are bold and deep, much appreciated lyrics. “He sang a song when he did it.” So when she hears it it makes her weak.” It’s a real thing and it’s terrible.
It's not just that, but she's psychologically conditioned to not live without this kind of humiliating treatment. It's terrible, much so that she drops to her knees like religion.
The part “she was forced to be a woman” got me because I wanted to be free but I was forced to be “lady like” My grandparents were strict about my thick puffy curly wavy hair, they always wanted me to have straight hair I was also forced to be “pretty” not “ugly” and see me as a ugly Person with natural things and it hits different that many people went through a lot
My favorite songs from The Weeknd: In Your Eyes-This song played in Cobra Kai Season 4 when Robby and Tory danced at the junior prom. Blinding Lights-Has a funky beat to it and has an 80s pop tune to it, like In Your Eyes And now, this song!
Yayyy i found the song ive been looking for this song i heard it on the radio and i forgot the name of the song but when i heard the lyrics i feel better now
Music is open to interpretation there is no single meaning to a song it's how the soul looks at it. 1000 different people listen to a song, 1000 different reactions. It's about a person living with no limit but with no love I see
In the night she hears him Calling in the night she's dancing to relieve her pain she'll never walk away he's telling whoever him is she is in to deep he can't save her but I don't think you understand that's the message I'm trying to help but I don't think you understand you notice he talks about him but the problem seems to be her
