this is like the saddest song I have ever heard shit got me right in the fucking feels. and yet I love this song so much.
When I first heard this song, I was like 10? I didn't know ANY word in English and my mom translated it for me and I cried. Now I understand anything and I'm crying again...

But sometimes, the human is very sad.
Alexander is an artist. He has his own world, with his happy or sad feelings. He live these feelings powerful. And this is why he can make a happy or sad lovely music, but rarely, he can give us a very tragic-dramatic song. Now, in this case, 13 horses will be that.
I have ear problems nowadays. There was an octopus in my Right ear. Ican't go to swim or play in a water all summer. I have to go to the ear duty every week.
So, I really needed this song. Thank you from Hungary Alexander, that you show the all feelings of the world.
Alexander...why? This made me so sad and angry and I am crying but still his voice is something so amazing...how can he make pain and suffering sound so good?

The birds represent people around him that are happy. He is singing that, that is what he wants his life to be like. The owners are probably his parents and they would be proud of him for fighting till the end.
Another thing is Alexander is singing about himself in this song. He is the 13th horse, the other horses were is friends that drifted away. He is singing how he wants to be with his girl, most likley the girl he wants to be with. He is singing how there's no point for him to even try, yet he still has hope.
And im the 13th like..

This song teaches 2 important things. A) Even when our chances are at their slimmest, hope doesn't die. B) We humans are selfish creatures. As long as we're fine, it doesn't matter if a few animals die, we can always get more. And it's fucking sad.
Define the hope part... there is no hope - it's like the Sound of Silence.. just goes darker until the lights are out.
@@ForgottenGames Literally the line "the hope that never dies". Even though the horses were *never* going to make it to shore and survive, there was still a small part of them with a spark of hope that they would, and that's what made them determined enough to keep swimming for as long as they each did. Even though the last horse made it to shore, he died of exhaustion once there, but was still hoping even a tiny bit that he'd survive.
Well this was freaking heartbreaking. Beautiful, meaningful song, but it's horrifyingly sad.

The saddest part of this song is possibly how naive these horses are. Alexander speaks of hope... but in reality they simply don't know that there is no way they will ever survive. However, while on the one side there seems to be no hope at all, it is true that they move on and on, only because of a sense of hope so strong.

Dear Alex....To me, the song is a symbol for sooo many people struggling, loosing there lifes and I am sure Aleksey Navalny could go one by thinking on the last words about HOPE. R.I.P. Aleksey Navalny.

This is about life in nutshell... hope never dies...
IF it were talking about people on a ship, i'd be fine. But because it is talking about horses(taking this literally and not metaphorically) this made me cry. because people are selfish and there's nothing the animals can do about it.

@Moousiie You mean everybody knows that 'crying' also means 'screaming'/'shouting' which is quite accurate, considering the horses must be using their last breath to whinny about, hoping somebody will help them out.

The song "13 Horses swimming in the Sea" of Alexander Rybak is tellling the whole history of Pushball on Horseback as survival technique of The War Horse and their Horsemen. It has started in New York, 1902.
It's used as Military Skill Training for the (Heavy) Cavalry Horses against the Infantery, but is still used as Crowd Control Training against the Hooligans.
For me it's a metaphore. So, with the overall revival of our sport: Pushball may NEVER DIE, and develop to a grown up discipline with an International Standard with Official Pushball Game Rules.
I use the Pushball on Horseback Game Rules of the Italian Cavalry 1928. I've also the Pushball on Horseback Game Rules from the Russian Red Army, 1930.
