There's the annual cicadas, and then there are the periodic ones. Around here (SE Penn), the annual ones are out in early July thru early September. The periodic ones, if it's their year, usually appear earlier (late may, June, etc). Along with Cicadas come the Cicada Killer Wasps, which are terrifying, but more or less harmless.
