He picked his team, not anyone else, and he kept the fans happy by winning. There's too many egos around Man Utd, they only need one, and that's the managers.
Completely wrong. The time for a SAF or an Arsene Wenger staying 20 years at a club is long gone. Even Pep's and Klopp's lengths at City and Liverpool are an anomaly today. If you look back at the recent years at United, part of the problem has been the coach had too much influence. And when one coach was fired, the next coach inherited a squad and certain players that didn't fit their style of football. Now repeat this cycle every 18-24 months and it's easy to see why the squad is such a mess and there's been no value for the money spent. However if the footballing direction and operation was controlled higher up at the club, with a club vision, and you hire a coach based on the club's vision you United wouldn't be in such mess. They don't need a manager with full control. They need a club with its sporting operation in place and good key people like the scouts, analytics that work as a team with the current manager. Currently everyone is there working in silo, not as a team with a shared vision.
