When I listen to his songs, its hard to imagine that anyone thought, german sounds aggressive ❤️❤️❤️
I think german is a very playfull language, you can approach it with a harsh tone, but you can definetely use it soft, smooth and at every intensity between.

Remember this and stay with your loving people like you would stay in the last moments with them. For humans time goes by in only one direction! Enjoy every Moment like the last one. Then you are still sad, but your soul does not die of self-reproach. The memory of past moments spent together can be comforting. The memory of missed moments can only make us die even more! A loving father or husband will never say goodbye. He would say "Don't be afraid, I'll stay right here and when the time comes, I'll always find you"!
i am austrian. grew up with the songs of reinhard mey. then life went on and i forgot. the last three crazy years made me come back to him. how did he know about the lies and manipulation that would happen.

I'm always happy when people discover Reinhard Mey. I grew up with his songs, because my dad is a big fan. As child I liked the funny songs very much but today I can appreciate all the emotional ones, too.
One of my favourite songs is called "Zeugnistag". i'ts a great song about parenting. About how frightening problems can look from a childs perspective and how important it is to give a child a save haven. The song starts out with a funny story but turns into a very important message to all parents. And I'm forever thankful that my parents are like the ones described in the song.
I don't think that there is a video with english lyrics but there are transaltions online.

Ich finde es so schön, dass du dich an deutsche Lieder heranwagst! Wenn ich mal nach einer Reaktion auf deutsche Songs suche, finde ich oft Rammstein und das ist aggressiv vorgetragene Musik und eigentlich nicht typisch Deutsch! Wir haben soooo viel unterschiedliche Musik, eben für jeden Geschmack- angefangen bei den Scorpiens , Sarah Connor, Helene Fischer Lena und und und......
Aber Reinhard Mey ist ein begnadeter Songschreiber und auch Sänger und selbst wenn man ihn nicht mag, muss man doch zugeben , dass seine Texte meist tiefgreifend sind. Ich bin mit seinen Liedern aufgewachsen und liebe vor allem den Titel " Nein , meine Söhne geb ich nicht "

There are not only contemplative romantic titles by Reinhard Mey, but also humorous ones by his landlady, Ms. Pol, where he broke through the hallway or the fish was drunk from alcohol. There are very versatile tracks by him
It is a beautiful song, and the English translation doesn't do it justice. It is very difficult to translate Reinhard Key's lyrics. He is an incredible wordsmith playing with the German language.
In my opinion the translation is really good for the single lines and it is not that far off. But the thing is: the underlying feeling of the approaching death (what this song is about), could not be transported across language barriers and should be explained before the video starts - in my opinion.
@@Balleehuuu When I first bought the record I had to listen to the song several times to be sure what it is about. But yes, you're right: it is about caring for a friend who is about to leave this world for good.
@@pfalzgraf7527 Okay... I got the feeling (what the song wanna tell me) in the first verse, there is a way how the lines are put together and the memories are told, that makes it clear to me. Perhaps I am sort of trained for these lyrics with my profession - Altenpfleger (nurse).
@@ChiefHerzensCoach I did not mean to say anything bad about the translator at all. You are right, the translation is very well done. There are some subtle nuances that are language specific and cannot be directly translated. That goes for every translation. Living abroad listening to Reinhard Mey after so many years made me realize that he is incredibly skilled in molding the language into poetry that invokes emotions so beautifully.

Wenn ich es recht erinnere, war das Lied schon auf dem Album "Leuchtfeuer" enthalten, muß also irgendwann in der ersten Hälfte der 1990-er entstanden sein. Damals war sein Sohn Max (?) noch im Kindes- oder ganz früher Teenager-Alter und erfreute sich bester Gesundheit, was sich leider viele Jahre später drastisch änderte...
Für seinen verstorbene Sohn düfte deswegen wohl eher der Titel "Laß nun ruhig los das Ruder" sein.
Aber beide Lieder sind natürlich gleichermaßen schön und strahlen eine tiefe Ruhe aus, wie sie andererseits unendlich traurig sind.
Mey was a singer-songwriter of his own kind, some loved him, some hated him, but he always sang with his soft voice, accompanied by his own guitar. He created his own style no one can imitate, but I don't think it was by purpose, it just happened. He never tried to be a big star, and I suppose he never wanted to be.

@@realist8977 Mey, Wecker und Wader: Die leben alle noch. Aber sie treten nicht mehr öffentlich auf. Deswegen die Vergangenheit. Beim Mey und beim Wecker war ich auf Konzerten, aber es ist lange her.
Reinhard Mey ist im September 2022 auf Tour gewesen. Ich war da! Fantastisch!!!

You could think that he did but that's no true. No offense, but this song came out years before his son Max got awfully sick and died in 2014 after nearly five years in persistent vegetative state.
That one's "Drachenblut", actually. This one is for a terminally ill old friend.
