My thoughts on the Moto G Stylus 5G 2024 after one week of use, and I really like it. We talked about my issues with software support in the first video, but if you can get past that, it's a really excellent device to use. I love the $400 price point, and I love the compromises Moto made to get there.

Overall, for $400, it's a really good phone.

I've seen some horrendous reviews of last year's device, but this one is getting much better ones.

The lack of major OS updates is a worthwhile thing to point out, but for me I've been using Android since about 2010 and I've never once gotten a major OS update on a phone and thought "oh joy, my phone is so much nicer to use now". There have however been occasions where I've gotten major OS updates and thought "oh, it's slower and the battery life is worse and my favorite app broke".

Steve made a valid point there about the updates. I agree with you 💯. I just got this as a backup phone to my pixel and my experience honestly was very similar to yours. With every update I would worry if it is going to break something else haha

I get it, but I feel like that's something that has more been a problem with Pixel devices or older phones being updated. Recent updates have almost universally been better and tend to improve the device over time. Depends on the brand of course, but updates overall have gotten better.

@@StevealiciousTechI beg to differ lol. Recent Samsung update made my S21 Ultra completely unusable. Touch screen completely stopped functioning after the update. Samsung was unable to help me fix it. The phone is still brand new. I've only had it for 4 months. So now I'm looking at a $300 screen replacement or buy a different phone. My last Samsung also updated and got stuck in a permanent reboot loop. The new Samsung update disabling touchscreen functionality seems to be common. I found others complaining of the same issue online.

5:16 oh boy hes not kidding, the quad lens camera on my 2021 Stylus 5G is a perfect example, i still can't believe Motorola put a fixed focus macro lens in this device, it has no tap to focus , no auto focus you just have to hold the phone exactly at the right distance for good macros and even then the photo quality of this lens is poor. (The main rear camera is decent at least) but glad to see Motorola putting more care into the camera setup with newer models.

I think you made extremely valid points and I agree with you on it all. Motorola should extend their software support to at least 5 years to show they’re trying to improve and be more like Samsung or Google. But at the same time, we got what we got so no need to dwell on it and it’s something Motorola can improve next year. As far as the phone itself goes, they made huge leaps forward and that’s what matters to me at least. They’re getting better at making solid devices that work well. As far as the always on display, I get why people want it and Motorola should give you that option. That’s a great idea for maybe extending the peek display though and perhaps they could allow you to set it as part of that always on option to put their spin on it. Thank you for being one of the handful of consistent content creators still covering this phone.

Yeah support is the room for improvement but there aren’t many $399 phones out there with so much quality as the Moto G Stylus 5g 2024. But I have a feeling if you are interested in this phone you likely know about the support and lack of a real ip rating. What I love about Motorola is reliability and how useful the Moto actions are. People exaggerate about the always on display it drains battery and I often turn it off. Peek display is way more useful way of interacting with your notifications while still getting all the functionality of an always on display. I also think the cameras on Motorola eventually will get all the AI features and processing of Pixels. Overall this device is easily the best in the price range. And I’d argue holds it’s own again more expensive phones too.

@@5150crazyfun very true bro. And you have to ask yourself, how much phone is enough to do everything you need it to and save money. This phone with a stylus beats the other option at over $1,300.

I absolutely love how you get right to the REAL points of these devices, especially the mid-range devices, that most people care about and utilize! My son, who's 28, got a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra for the same reason most people do........ Samsung's marketing! He wanted the most expensive phone and he got it! After 6 months, he's had two major glitches whereas he's had to send it in to get repaired and now he's in the process of warranty replacement phone. Also, he doesn't use NEARLY any of those 'extra' features that make the phone $1,400 00! He calls, texts, surfs the Internet and watches You Tube videos and seriously that's it! I don't understand some folk's thinking!

Just got May security patch on my Motorola Edge 2023. Hopefully Android 14 is right around the corner. I totally agree that if the do eventually use always on display using the notification style they use now I wouldn't consider buying any other mid-range phone.

one thing most Motorolas have that i don't like is the video recording, they split the file in multiple approx 3gb files when you transfer the footage to pc, i wonder if this one does that too???..i still have a Moto G Stylus 2021 version...still rocks today...i wish the bootloader could be unlocked so i can install a custom rom..but besides that, a very solid device

It's never too late for Motorola. To change their minds and update the years for software support. Samsung did it what, last year or the year before or a couple of years ago, when they update the years of software updates on some of their devices, so Motorola has the ability to do that. It's up to them to decide to do that. Are you gonna take care of the consumer or you gonna take care of yourself? In fact, my Motorola razor plus 2023 is still on Android 13.I did get a recent security patch for May 2024.But no android 14 that's crazy

I love Motorola devices but the software support is abysmal. My issue has less to do with how many updates they offer and more to do with the amount of time it takes Moto to release them. I've been using a Razr Plus and security patches typically miss the bi-monthly window. OS updates take almost a year and are full of bugs and glitches that are rarely addressed. I doubt I will still be using the Razr by the time A14 releases.
I'm moving away from using Motorola devices because stable software support is important to me. It's a shame because I love the designs and overall feel of Motorola phones.

4.) cameras are sufficient and better than last years stylus
5.) stock android experience and Moto gestures are a win
6.) this one is a huge surprise, the call quality is phenomenal
