If I can add a tip, when you scale down for a ukulele, you may want to leave the top part of the stand a little bigger. I just built one for a baritone ukulele scaled down to 70%, and I had a hard time finding a small enough hinge. Eventually I found a small hinge, but the screws were teeny tiny. Having a slightly bigger hinge would mean slightly bigger screws with more bite.
Nice job. I really like how you explain with humility, the sort of stuff we DIYers deal with! I love this stand. Nice edits, well made video matches the end product.
I should do this. Looks great and a whole lot more attractive than the typical stand from your local music store. Thanks for the free plans. Very nice.
We seem to be on the same project schedule.. I started making a desk and then you released your desk video. Started making a guitar stand, then you release this! Great job, Johnny!
Another good way to minimize tear out when routing is to sand almost to the line, leave about the thickness of a business card's width of material then when making climb cuts tear out will be greatly minimized. I had to learn this the hard way when I fist started building guitars. I use a robot sander on my drill pass that follows the template with a bearing and then rout the rest on my router table, I rarely have tear out now and if I do it's very minimal. This is a great stand design though.
Nice project. I'm in the process of building it. On the video you say you used a 1 1/2" forstner bit, but circle on the template measures about an inch. Which one is correct? TIA and thanks for posting. Mark
Love it. Going to try and make this for my dad for Father’s Day. Question for you - what was the final thickness of each board when you were done? Looks a little thinner than 1 inch thick.
Great project. I like how you pass along some lessons learned. I'd have to check, but I think I used the same epoxy on a school project with my son, but we used food coloring. It stayed tacky for a long time (days), so I think the food coloring may have affected curing time. Good video! - Jim
+The Wood Lab thanks man! Yea, you guys might have used a little too much. Although, this is a slow drying epoxy, in theory it takes 72 hours to completely cure. It's designed to never yellow and stay crystal clear, hence the slow drying.
I know the font problem is frustrating after all that work, but it looks kind of cool to me almost like a stencil but better. What about using your drum sander for that epoxy removal process? Great build by the way. Still envious of all that walnut!
+Hubbard's Handmade thanks man! The drum sander definitely would work but I was worried about destroying the sandpaper with the epoxy. And yea, I'm satisfied with the way it turned out, especially since it's just a project for myself.
at Walnut looks great and the letters turned out good I get what you mean about the depth of cut butt it still look good to me as always great video great project great result have a good one brother
Hi Johnny, very inspirational to see your build, some things look fiddly but they challenge us right, I just made a folding stool but I wish I'd constructed a bridge for working with longer lumber 🤔, loving your channel 👍👍👍
The back is slanted at 10 degrees off the 90 (so 100 or 80, depending which side you're measure it off) . The corner at the bottom where the seat and back meet is 90 degrees. Hope that helps. I'm working on mid-century banjo stand. Subscribe to my channel to stay up to date on it if interested :)
@@craftedworkshop I'll let you know. I've started working on one in curly Maple. First up, a thin plywood test stand to tweak the profiles needed to hold my particular banjo. Once that is done and it holds the banjo with stability, I'll transfer it to the maple.
@@craftedworkshop BTW-- I used my faulty memory to make my plywood pieces without looking at your video again, and I hinged them along the long end, not the top. It's just a duct tape hinge, so no big deal. I'll have to experiment with both ways and see what works best for me.
I love that you provide a template, so thank you for that first and foremost. But what are your rough dimensions if you dont mind me asking? Wanting to do something similar, but maybe personalize the shape using similar dimensions. Awesome video!
Love the stand, Johnny! Thought I might take a short cut and d/l your full-size layout, but the store wouldn't let me continue past the credit card info. Error message when you hit the Continue button without filling in the data. Any other way to get the plan?
That looks amazing and I'd like to build one for my electric guitar. What kind of modifications should be done, or do electric guitars fit straight in to that template?
Hey Johnny, great stand! I was looking for EXACTLY this to make as a gift for my brother. You couldn't have released this video at a more perfect time! I registered on your site to get the free template, however I must have done something wrong. I can't seem to get it and now your site says I've already purchased them and I can't get them again. Please help! :)
Sorry about that! Should be fixed now. If you go back to the site and click "Member Library" in the top right corner, you should be taken to the Downloads page and the file should be available there. Thanks!

Thanks, Johnny, I got it that time. I wanted to ask you if it was possible to omit the forstner bit hole that you drilled. You mentioned in your video that you used it to open up the area for the router bit. But if it's just for a roundover, is it possible to just curve that corner on the bandsaw or does it need to be a right angle for the guitar to sit in? Just wondering if the guitar usually sits that low where it would matter. Looks like the felt pads hold it up high enough where I might be able to get around not drilling that hole? I only ask because I don't have a forstner set yet.
The hole is for the roundover as well as the flush trim bit. That corner does need to be that angle but if you aren't going to use a flush trim bit, you could forgo the hole. A spade bit would work too, they're a lot cheaper.
I know it’s been a few years, but this template will not download from your website. It keeps sending me in circles, even after I signed in! Can you help?
You offer a free template but the download link just loads the instructions page again. If you are giving one out for free please make it easier to get one.
Such a shame you have to jump through so many hoops to find and download the free template. I would have subscribed anyway... Remove the barriers and people will come flooding in.
It's nice to see you include the mistakes; it makes it real and helps others to avoid making the same errors.

Made this today for my wife. Thanks. Love the videos. Turned out great.

Excellent design for in use and portability
most impressed with the workshop. Must be nice to have all that stuff.
Much appreciated for this video and free plans!
I should do this. Looks great and a whole lot more attractive than the typical stand from your local music store. Thanks for the free plans. Very nice.
Thanks man, definitely much better than your typical junky tubular steel and rubber stand from Guitar Center, etc.
This would also be a really cool gift for Christmas or birthday or whatever for musicians. Very cool!
Thanks Mickey, definitely agree!
Thanks for the template! I'm going to make one for a friend.
Nice Lolllar T-shirt. Jason makes the bets pickups. I dig the guitar stand too and will make one
We seem to be on the same project schedule.. I started making a desk and then you released your desk video. Started making a guitar stand, then you release this! Great job, Johnny!
Hah, great minds I suppose! :)

Хорошая работа брат, и классная аппаратура у тебя. 😊👍👍
Very cool !!!! And, it folds up flat for travel. I like it.
Yup, thanks!
Came out great! The font still looks good.
Thanks man!

Wonderfull idea for musicians !
Very nice Project. Sanding the Epoxy gets me every time!!
Thanks Jake! I've literally burnt up belt sander motors doing it, so I figured the planer might work well. Nope!
Crafted Workshop I started using a drum sander barely touching the material and feed it through way slow... still sucks!! Lol
+Jake Thompson hah I bet!
Finally a complete guide. Haha with dimensions
thanks. nice and simple and very functional.
Nice! cool project and Waterlox is a great finish
Thanks Jon, really appreciate you checking out my videos. And yea, it's great stuff!
Thanks. Very good project. I just went now to your website and received the pdf file to print. Thanks once again.
Love it. Going to try and make this for my dad for Father’s Day. Question for you - what was the final thickness of each board when you were done? Looks a little thinner than 1 inch thick.
That Waterlox is the bomb! Nice build.
Thanks Dan!
I noticed, definitely have to try some of that stuff on my next walnut project; the "keller" really shines through.
Hah!
49cfr LOL!!!!!
I can't remember was that you Johnny or Zack that started the whole "Keller Theory" thing?
I'm gonna try this! Looks epic! Thank you so much! Subbed

Beauty. Christmas gifts are decided :)
+Rob Dunham awesome!

Beautiful guitar stand! Love it! 👌👍
Thanks Heath!
Using a Prusik knot would have allowed one string to adjust to any size width you want but very nice build
Nice thanks for sharing this 👍👍👍 great videos too
Nice stand man.. A stands on my list of projects for my channel.. Love the use of epoxy too.. It came out sweet!! :)
Thanks man, glad you liked it!
Nice work Johnny!
+Fred McIntyre thanks Fred!
at Walnut looks great and the letters turned out good I get what you mean about the depth of cut butt it still look good to me as always great video great project great result have a good one brother
Thanks man!
Crafted Workshop always brother!
This was a good video. I might try to make this for my accoustic.
Thanks! Go for it, it's a fun, simple project.
great project. thanks for sharing this
PS: liked and subbed 🙂
Thanks for watching!
Beatiful n very nice
really like this design and love the quote!
Hi Johnny, very inspirational to see your build, some things look fiddly but they challenge us right, I just made a folding stool but I wish I'd constructed a bridge for working with longer lumber 🤔, loving your channel 👍👍👍
Thanks man!
nice one! I should make a couple for the guitars I haven't played in over three years 😂
Hah, maybe that'll inspire you to play them!
What angle does the guitar sit at on the stand. I can't get the template from your site it asks for a credit card!! Cheers ; )

Hi! Can you make one for a standing guitar stand?
Convenient stand for guitar!
What is the size you printed the template on . Like A4 or A5
Is this a solid wood for this DIY ?
Very nice. I'm going to build one of these. Great job!
Thanks Joshua!
Very neat! Have you made this with thinner wood,eg 1/2" to keep the weight down for portability?
I haven't, but I'm sure that'd work fine!

1 x 12, roughly 2 feet long
Can you say pls in cm how much it is?
lol....google 1x12 in cm and then google 2 feet in cm......easy...
Bravo x 1000
Très beau travail
Really cool guitar stand! Looks Amazing!👍
+FatherAndSonFun 2015 thanks man!
I love that you provide a template, so thank you for that first and foremost. But what are your rough dimensions if you dont mind me asking? Wanting to do something similar, but maybe personalize the shape using similar dimensions.
Awesome video!
Have you ever used watelox on tread or brige
how thick is the wood in your example?:)
Nice job!
Love the stand, Johnny! Thought I might take a short cut and d/l your full-size layout, but the store wouldn't let me continue past the credit card info. Error message when you hit the Continue button without filling in the data. Any other way to get the plan?
+Herman Chelette you should be able to skip the CC info, still need your name and email address. Let me know if that doesn't work.
ive heard that quote from a paul oakenfold song off his
(tranceport album 1998). im sure thats not where u got it from.lol
You gained yourself a sub!
Thanks Drew!
Thanks man for the template
+piero pinedo no problem!
That looks amazing and I'd like to build one for my electric guitar. What kind of modifications should be done, or do electric guitars fit straight in to that template?
It would be kind of deep for an electric but it would definitely work. Thanks!
Looks good mate. But I need to know: will an Explorer sit on this stand ok?
I’m guessing probably not. You’d be better off building a guitar wall hanger, which I’ve also built on this channel!
Thanks bro
Very nice
Thanks!
It does not download the template, can you share a new link please
Great video and tips.
Thanks for sharing
+Master of None thanks man!
Awesome!
Thanks!

I am having the same issue. I have tried looking in several places for it as well with no luck.
Sorry about that! Should be fixed now. If you go back to the site and click "Member Library" in the top right corner, you should be taken to the Downloads page and the file should be available there. Thanks!

Where did you get the Walnut because I really like Walnut also and I cant find any 1x12 walnuts anywhere? Please Help.
I glued up two pieces of walnut into the 1x12 piece!
Thanks Man. But we Decided to make it out of Poplar instead and It turned Out Beautifully.
Awesome! If you post it on social media, make sure to tag me. Love to see it!
We need some music videos from the Crafted Workshop! I'm assuming you play these instruments??
I do! That’d be fun.
Nice work. Practice your climb cuts. Very carefully. 😉
Yea, they scare me. Hah.
I know it’s been a few years, but this template will not download from your website. It keeps sending me in circles, even after I signed in! Can you help?
hermoso trabajo 👍👏👏
JUSTO LO QUE NECESITO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I disagree with what you said at 4:02... I think it still looks great (good tip though).
Thanks Arthur!
excellent! I really like art resin. I need to get some dye. that's a great accent.
Thanks Scott!
Anyone know of a guitar stand design that can hold a bc rich ironbird shape guitar?
Cool project. But not aimed at the average Joe. Who the heck has all those fancy tools? Flex flex flex!!!
Any man who can quote Willy Wonka deserves a thumbs up 👍🏾
+themrnorwood hah, thanks!
Где взять шаблон на такую подставку.
Can I borrow your tools??
sanding epoxy is tough, if it heats up it gums up the sandpaper.
+Alex Clark yup!
How do i get the download link for the template?
+Jilly Minoza check the build article linked in the video description.
template isn't allowing me to download it or print :((( otherwise a pretty neat guitar stand
Hmm, that's odd!
It worked after you sent it though, thank you!
No prob, have fun building!
easy to make it, for all who own a furniture factory.
Great video, alas some of us mere mortals don’t possess all the fancy tools you have! Cool design though.
This could be built with very simple tools if you used pre-milled lumber. Thanks.
Why don’t you do a video with those simple tools then?
Can't get to the free template
Template is not available
You offer a free template but the download link just loads the instructions page again. If you are giving one out for free please make it easier to get one.
Why does the template need my zip code and address?
Why do I have to give you my name and address to download a free plan?
amigo tiene una fabrica de muebles el loco ahí, tiene más maquinas para madera que yo muebles en mi casa xd
💯💯💯💯💯💯
bom so o ouro
Can you give me the template for the project please and I am subscribed
It’s linked in the video description.
What?? You couldn't have gone with "I write the songs"??😁
maybe next time play a little too!!!
nice...
I was thinking about it but just ran out of time. Thanks Nikos!
i just saw your post on Instructibles
lol it days it is free but then why do they ask for your credit card number etc??
You can leave it blank, as it says on the website.
Such a shame you have to jump through so many hoops to find and download the free template. I would have subscribed anyway... Remove the barriers and people will come flooding in.
Way 2 much work 4 a crap stand
