Stunning! You give both the vocal and the accompaniment an achingly melancholic edge that fits perfectly. Joan Baez, in her career, as sung many songs meant for a man to sing. Musicians need not worry about the gender reference in the music they choose. Thanks so much for this. One of my favorite songs of the era.
Thanks again Ken! Once again your klmd words warms my heart. It was not som much the gender reference as Joans wonderful voice that made me a little apprehensive of doing this one. Hard to match her version as a male! And yes, I agree - definitely one of my favourites of the era too!
Oh, thank you so very much Deanna! Personal and universal is about the finest thing one can accomplish and probably every artists dream so it makes me really glad to hear that!
Not sure I understand? If you mean my sets you're probably thinking about someone else. I live in Sweden and we don't have a Holiday Inn here. Sounds like a good deal and a nice way to spend a Thursday though! :)
Thanks for taking the time to listen as well as commenting! Really glad you like it. And yes, it is a very pleasant song to sing! Actually, there’s a male version by Judas Priest but theirs is more of a metal ballad and quite different from the original and I prefer the original version more so wanted to have a go at a male version closer to that. 😊
Thank you so much for singing this song so clearly and beautifully I am a man Who is breaking up with a man I love dearly Joan’s song is helping me through this difficult time Hearing a man singing is so helpful 💜ps this song is so appropriate since I nicknamed my beloved Diamond 💎
First of all - so sorry to hear that you're going through hard times and heartbreak Mark! Breakups are tough in every sense, I should know... I truly hope things will get better and that you will come out on the other side ok...maybe even stronger than before! Thank you so very much for the kind words! Really glad you liked my interpretation of Joan's beatiful song and truly flattered that I might in some small way have helped make things a little easier for you at such trying times.. All the best to you and I wish you happiness in the future!
@@RonnieGavelin Your kind words, Ronnie ,means so much to me I will cherish them as well as your beautiful rendition and clarity in Diamonds and rust! Thank you so much for your comments of support in this song You are very helpful in responding to me
Thank you so very much! I’ve actually got a few other Dylan and Baez songs in the pipeline - as well as a few other protest/folk number from other artists. Maybe not an entire album though - I don’t have THAT many followers after all. But then again…you never know. ;)
Thanks Nard! Sorry for the late reply. RUclips stopped notifying me on new comments for some reason, so did not see it until now. I just subbed to your channel too! 😉
I must admit that when I first saw this in thumbnail, I was rather dubious... And besides, I've always found it very stange that anybody (even women) would even cover this song since it's so incredibly personal and even historic (the love story between Mother Joan and baby Dylan), but since so many have done it before... No, what really made me frown a little was when you wrote "one of the most distinctive voices in music"... Why not as well say, "one of the most astounding, gorgeous, otherworldy, divinely perfect, achingly-pure, most beautifuly vibratoed voice the world of folk music (and possibly one of the best in music?) in the world... You did pretty good! ;- ) Congrats!
Haha! Thank you soooo much! Was really not expecting a postivie judgment at the end when I started reading. ;) Yes, Joan in general, and this song in particular, was a bit scary to tackle but I’ve always thriwed on putting myself out there so I decided to give it a go. Really glad you think I did OK! Thank you so much!
Congratulations Sir. Your cover is very nice and a moving one. I am trying to play and sing it too. But no doubt it will be less good-looking than yours. Of course it's a song by a woman, and what a woman! But songs of love and breaking are universaL. Bravo from France.
So glad you like it Claude! It’s a scary one to take on as a male, but I think as you say that songs about love and breaking are universal. Hope you’ll upload ypur version eventually so I can check it out!
Thanks a lot John! Glad you like it an greetings from Scandinavia!

Thank you very much, not many men can sing it the way you do! You didn't try to imitate Judas Priest neither Baez herself! very deep feeling for a very deep song! Good job, thank you for posting it.
Thank you so much Mata! Well, no one can sing it like Joan or Rob so the only way to go is to try and make it your own. I did take some cues from Joan Baez though when rehearsing it, but tried to apply them to ”my” voice and style.

@@RonnieGavelin And you did it well! Good job! I sing it too but adapted the melody to my own personallity and voice as I have no low range, and it took years for me to be able to sing it!
Excellent cover. Why did her being a woman bother you? Had you not heard the Judas Priest covers? If "Judas Priest" can do the song justice . . . well . . . yours is more daring, JP often omit the "Madonna" and "girl on a half-shell" lyrics
Thank you! It's not really that her being a woman bothered me, more that I wanted it to have the same feel of calm sorrow and beauty as her version more than the JP one. And me being male I was worried that I would find it a lot harder than it turned out to be to capture that. Plus, the fact that she has in my opinion one of the most personal and beautiful voices ever also made me dubious as to how to perform it in my own way.
Thank you so very much Peter! This is actually one of the songs I’ve ever recorded that I’ve been most dubious about whether I should have a go at. Funnily enoough it’s turned out to be most viewed video to date…:)
