I have an X5, and I truly love it! but here in California there’s not much snow unless I go to mountains. I haven’t gotten a chance to go to the mountains. I’m in love with my X5 it handles so beautifully like a tank and yet steady!😃

My 2009 X5 is great in the Michigan snow. I use all season tires but winter tires are ideal for tough winter climates. I used to drive a rear wheel drive sports car and put winter tires on each season and it was an absolute beast even though just rear wheel drive, tires make all the difference in the world.

I have a 2013 x5 50i m sports package with 20 inch wheels with all season tires. Continental sports plus with over 55000km on the tires. I live in Calgary Alberta Canada and get lots of snow and snow blizzards. The city is approx. 1300 meter above sea level and has lots of uphills and downhills. This vehicle is absolutely a beast. I keep trying different vehicles but nothing comes closer to X5. I will always keep one X5 in my garage. Ever get stuck in snow turn traction off and unleash the beast and have fun at the same time too.

  • @DanielZajic

I don't think the wear probably matters much, it's the rubber compound. If it's too cold and it gets stiff, it won't provide enough traction. Winter tires stay soft at much lower temps. Stopping/turning matter more than accelerating.
I personally wouldn't drive all seasons in anything much below freezing, even if I could get going. Newton's 1st law will come back to bite you.

I had a 2005 (all wheel drive) cadillac escalade ext - with all season mich tires - then I got a 2011 all wheel drive premium bmw x5 just off lease from new jersey - this was back in 2015 - got rid of the run flats and put the same tires you got - pirelli scorps - this was in omaha - after major snow - I knew the cad was a snow monster - but on the same day at about the same time - first I took the cad out and put it through the motions - and it was great as usual - (better than some of the old CJ jeeps I had owned) - okay so then I took the x 5 out - first run - took the same path and did the same things and it was 2 to 3 times better than the cadillac for street driving - would have to give the cad more on deeper snow - height difference - but if I would have had to pick for interstate driving that day it would have been the x5. - I see by some comments that some do realize that on ice it don't matter what your trying to drive = your asking for problems. call in sick or if you like sky diving and stuff call uber and wait for a tiny teeny car to show up.

I have an X5 and i dread the winter of the BC Interior this year. Now looking for winter tires. Trying to find the best ones for all weather this year to replace worn Bridgestone dueler that came with the vehicle. Pirelli is top of the range but also super pricey. Still deliberating. Advice from fellow owners is much welcome.

BMW 5 XL model vs other models
I have been researching about the BMW X5, my preference is 2008 onward. I have come across an issue that may influence greatly my decision making, I realized that there are XL models, unfortunately there is almost no information about the difference between these models (XL) and the others. I have also realized that it seems to be a little bit difficult to find auto parts for the XL model. I would not like to import a model that will cause me headaches finding the parts. I also noticed that the XL model weighs 1800KG, whereas the other models weigh 2100KG. Does the XL model weight have anything to do with the material used? Does it have more plastic? Can you or anyone else clarify me about the XL model?

I am back and can tell you that you will have no problems in the snow because you don't have Run Flats. My 2014 X5 xdrive35i at the end of your video you mentioned snow tires, well get them and then get a set for all terrain. My $85,000 BMW is horrible in the snow but I can drive 50 miles on a flat tire up to 50mph and best of all there is no spare! If I can't find a buyer that is exactly what I am going to do I will get a set of snow tires and put them on the rims I have now and then I will get a highly rated all terrain or summer tires and get a set of new rims and put them on those this way I get set of 4 new TMPS gauges as the truck is driven more through rain and wind these days but during the winter I can't believe that I have to buy a snow tire for a 19" BMW X5 that has under 40k miles. My 20014 Jeep Grand Cherokee blew through that snow like it was nothing. I guess BMW should have gone with 20'" tires and a good set of all terrain and they would have improved the handling immensely. Excellent video thanks

I don't understand why people do winter tests with no winter tires on. If you can't afford it either don't drive in the snow (and leave the roads for prepared people like myself) or go for a cheaper car where the budget will allow for separate winter tire/wheel combo. I was in line at a tire shop and a guy (who happened to own an X5 35i) was bitching about the cost of his winter tires. Tire shop rep just replied with "It's a BMW why are you acting surprised?". True.

I may have missed it, but it your X5 a RWD or AWD? What is the biggest factor in driving in the snow? I am considering a 2014 X5 with RWD but in Central Va we may get 2 episodes of snow 4-6" max.
