Great list! Safe House ABSOLUTELY deserves to be a much bigger thing than it was, couldn't agree more. Same with Killer Joe as odd as it is, the ensemble cast really elevates it. Richard Jewell would be a good movie even if it hadn't actually happened, but it did, which just boggles the mind. Unlocked looks worth the time, Shadow and Kung Fu Hustle intrigue me a lot, as does Ink. The top two I've seen, really enjoyed, and Bound would make a good Gina Gershon double with Killer Joe.

The FBI really screwed over Albert Jewel. I was working for the Dept of State Diplomatic Security Service during the '96 Olympics. We assisted on the investigation, and conducted the search before the park re-opened.
Our team lead at the Dept of State had word from the FBI that they knew it wasn't Jewel. They had a report of a guy stopping at a mom and pop gas station outside Atlanta the night before, bragging about keeping an eye on the news the following night. That man was Eric Rudolph.
The only reason they kept investigating Jewel was to try to keep Rudolph in the area, but he was already long gone. Ruined Jewel's life, and he was a hero. I was there that night, it could have been so much worse.

I own Kung Fu Hustle, I like it so much. I discovered I can play the movie with subtitles and dubbing simultaneously and it's such a hoot! It's like the people in charge of subtitles and the people in charge of dubbing never even talked to each other to try and synch up what was being said! The result is hilarious confusion and I love it! Great list Darren!

I remember the Richard Jewell story as it unfolded. I had colleagues at the station who said they still thought he did it (that's the irretrievable nature of a media character assassination). What changed their mine was when the FBI was shown returning his firearms on national television. I said, "Do you think there would be any chance of the FBI personally returning firearms on national television if there was a scintilla of doubt about his innocence? Take it in, this as close to a public apology you'll ever see from government agencies."

A terrific list, as usual. I've seen most of these, mainly from Darren's recommendations, and they're all worth watching. Goon would make a great double feature with Slapshot, which stars Paul Newman. One of the things I loved about Avengement is that the main character isn't superhuman. It's similar to Nobody, which is also on Prime. Finally, I'd recommend the original Rollerball, starring James Caan, which has kind been forgotten about.

Gina Gershon had a chance to play Trinity in the Matrix but the Wachoski Bros actually ended up rescinding the offer because of a dispute over details in the script. Gershon insisted on Trinity never using firearms in the movie and thought it would be better if she was exclusively into bladed weapons. For whatever reason she would not give in and the Wachowski Bros wouldnt go for it, so they decided to just go with a different actor.

Decided to watch these and thus far have watched Goon and Killer Joe. Goon was worth watching despite some of the things I disapprove of- it was funny but bombastic. Killer Joe though... the characters may indeed represent a section of the public that is completely bereft of morality and conscience, and admittedly I am aware of people that remind me of them, but goodness the film challenged my ability to stick it out til the end. The character Joe was kind of unbelievable, none of the movie was very palatable and I felt like I needed to take a shower when it was finally over. It degenerated to the point that it was likely unintentionally hilarious- as in 'I can't believe this is happening' kind of thing, and the ending seemed abrupt and left us with an untold finality. Wish I had picked a different one to be honest.

Great list, but how is "Beyond the Infinite 2 Minutes" not on here? I lightly kid as I know you can't hit them all and you're never going to make everyone happy, but this movie really needs to be talked about!

Good call. I watched it sometime last year and have yet to include it on a list.

Darren, I love your content! I'm a big fan of weird movies and twists and turns. On another note, I love survival situations. I'm curious to know if you like anything from Gus Van Sant? I like the movie Gerry, with Matt Damon. Would you ever recommend that movie? 🤔

"Avengement" excellent. "Accident Man" great fun plus the sequel "Accident Man: Hitman's Holiday". "INK" fantasy with time dilation and a great mind blowing flick.

Well, we have decidedly different tastes. I have seen and liked "Unlocked" but I'll watch anything with Noomi Rapace. I marked down three others that I will give a look but the others were not my cup of tea. That's not a bad thing, viva la differance!

Darren I’m not seeing a few of these movies available on Prime. What am I doing wrong? It says “video currently unavailable” for Ink and the final Heath Ledger film. 🆘
