Summer is glorious but winter beach combing always made me feel more connected to the majesty of the ocean. Since I can no longer walk the beaches like I use to, I can't thank you enough! 🐚

@@PlumIslandSeaCabin we went camping at Winslow Memorial Park in Freeport most weekends. They have a lovely sand beach and access to the surrounding rocky coastline with tide pools galore. At low tide, I loved to walk beyond the sand beach to the mud flats and watch the clams spit up seawater when walking over their holes.
@@northernsky1506 The rocky coastline in Maine is awesome 👌 👏. I am always looking for a good sea glass beach there. I am sure with all those rocks there has to be one! And yes...one morning on Plum Island I got up to watch the sunrise and there were hundreds and hundreds of baby clams spitting out water. I used a clip in my "Holy Quahogs" video. I love watching nature so much ❤🌊✌
@@PlumIslandSeaCabin Though I've never been, Great Diamond Island is known for its Sea Glass Beach. There is no public beach but the Inn on the island has beach access for it's guests. I don't know if you can still collect shells & seaglass there. I grew up in Portland and found sea glass at other spots such as: Crescent Beach, Old Orchard Beach, Popham Beach, Peaks Island, and Wells Beaches.

I guess the shells are the reward after the storm! When I lived on the Gulf, we'd go out a day or so after a tropical storm or hurricane. It's amazing how the sea gives up her treasures only after a strong temper tantrum! You are much braver than I, Jaime! I'm not able to tolerate the cold, so I would be frozen to my core. It's July now and very warm this evening, but the sound of the cold wind on your video makes me shiver. Thank you for your tenacity and courage! You're a beaver woman than I am!

@@PlumIslandSeaCabin I wish I could go shelling.😭However, I had spine surgery Xmas week and it's going to be another 6 to 12 months for the fusion and graph to heal. I'll have to live thru your antics and adventures, along with a few others down around Sanibel FLA. I hope everyone is safe during the storm.

Right now the beaches are all closed for safety, but as soon as we can, stay tuned! Also...I wish you a very speedy recovery! I feel your pain, I had back surgery when I was 33 and it takes time to heal up, but you will get back to the beach just like me :) ! Until then I am so glad I can take you with me on my beach adventures!! Rest up so that you can get back out there and share some of your adventures too! ❤💓🌊✌stay well my friend!
I thought about that, but then with the wind and my hands being numb I am sure I would have spilled it all over me. 😆 also...taking the shells from freezing to hot/ warm causes them to fracture, break and crumble. I have some that I didn't acclimate properly that I will show in one of my next videos. It's heartbreaking. 🌊✌

Winter shelling is my absolute favorite! Yes - it does make me so sad when I find a deceased seal, but also so super happy when I see babies sometimes playing on the beach :) Thank you so much for coming along on my adventures!

@@PlumIslandSeaCabin hi, the beach wasn't too bad today weather wise. Didn't find much there. I'm thinking I need to start going further a field to try and find some new things. I did find a couple of interesting things that I'm going to add into the parcel. I found a limpet with so so many barnacles on it, very unusual and a shiny oyster shell that looks like a baseball cap lol. I have a wee project I'm trying out, hopefully it's successful and going to pop that in as a wee surprise 🐚🌊❤

Yes - I totally get that...sometimes I look outside and think that as well, but then I start thinking of all those shells and I start calculating in my head.... 6 degrees divided by thermals + 2 sweatshirts + 1 hat + 1 jacket and optional gloves = a good time 😂 🌊✌

Well this is certainly not the first time I have watched this hunt , that blue moon at 4:45 is incredible 😍😍😍😍! I already know you get it unstuck yet I still get anxious watching you get it! Probably safe to say I need counseling 😂😂😂 so many beautiful moons in this hunt! Love them all!

Hi Kathy! Yes - all the layers 😂 I am so puffy with layers sometimes I'm surprised I can even move! Haha. We were out there for about an hour in the snow and an hour the next day. Sometimes when there are so many shells like that, it's so hard to leave, but when the weather is that bad you gotta' go. 😳
O love those huge blue moon snails ,it's the first time I have seen them..just an idea have you thought about taking a hot water thermos and pouring water on the best shells?
Hi Katrina! The big blue ones are my absolute favorite to find. My favorite color is blue :) Yes - some other shellers have suggested that! The issue is when a shell is frozen you have to bring it back to normal temperatures very slowly or they crack or fragment and fall apart. This happened to a few that I collected - I was totally bummed. I've since discovered a screwdriver works best! Thank you so much for watching!!
I have recently found your RUclips channel and enjoying very much! Specially ths video. I have watched other shelling videos and the shells seem a bit boring - most white, pale, brown, orange etc. rarely any color! So I was excited to see all the blue today! I have decided when I have the opportunity to go shelling again , which is rare because I live in land locked Alberta Canada! I am goin to keep my eyes open for blue! I may have to come to your neck of the woods!

Absolutely loved this video. Love how you incorporated the "how to" and "when" to go snow shelling. It is so important as well to keep Marine staff notified of dead creatures. There were staff last week at my beach (Tybee Island, GA) with a washed up deceased Sea 🐢. Such beautiful finds with my beautiful friend!!

Pardon me if this is a dumb question, could you carry a small thermos of hot water to assist in thawing a shell that is frozen! 😮 you are such a trooper to be out there at all in single digit weather! Hats off to you! You are an amazing sheller! 🐚
Thank you so much for watching! Not a crazy question at all! But...if you put hot water on them, they crack and break. You have to bring them up to temp very slowly to avoid breakage. ✌️🌊❤️

I feel like it is worse for you because you can actually see the treasure and can't get it. Also my favorite line... "It's 32 degrees, its almost like summer". Hi Sherry! Not a crazy thought at all - I've even considered it, but then with all the elements, like the wind, I am sure I would spill it on myself and then I would be both cold and wet. A friend of mine suggested a hammer and screwdriver. I may test that next time. Hopefully the shell doesn't break. Sometime water gets in the shell and freezes. Once it expands it breaks the shell and it looks like it exploded! Oh the joys of winter! Thank you so much for watching!!!

Hi Dave! I am bummed that the weather will be bad tomorrow. I was hoping they would open the gate to the other lots with all the snow melting. Are you local to the Island? If the lots are closed there are other great beaches in the area...Salisbury, Hampton and some really great ones in Gloucester! 🌊✌ Thanks for watching!
@@davepicard4476 Awesome!...be sure to call the refuge or check out their website before the drive. The gates to some lots may be closed and on a rare occasion, they close the refuge. It's good to check before making the drive. I was at Scusset Beach on the Cape a couple months ago. Very beautiful. Looking a for a Cape Beach to find some knobbed or channel whelks. Hi TutleLily! I tried one test with Polyurethane, but the blue oxidized to orange still. But...this last set of blue storm shells I found, stayed blue. I love it! ❤️ I will give an update in my next video :)

It's not so bad when you are wearing 3 sweatshirts and 2 pairs of pants. The hardest part is bending to pick up the shells with all those layers. 😆

I thought about that, but then with the wind and my hands being numb I am sure I would have spilled it all over me. 😆 also...taking the shells from freezing to hot/ warm causes them to fracture, break and crumble. I have some that I didn't acclimate properly that I will show in one of my next videos. It's heartbreaking. 🌊✌

@@PlumIslandSeaCabin hi, the beach wasn't too bad today weather wise. Didn't find much there. I'm thinking I need to start going further a field to try and find some new things. I did find a couple of interesting things that I'm going to add into the parcel. I found a limpet with so so many barnacles on it, very unusual and a shiny oyster shell that looks like a baseball cap lol. I have a wee project I'm trying out, hopefully it's successful and going to pop that in as a wee surprise 🐚🌊❤

Yes - I totally get that...sometimes I look outside and think that as well, but then I start thinking of all those shells and I start calculating in my head.... 6 degrees divided by thermals + 2 sweatshirts + 1 hat + 1 jacket and optional gloves = a good time 😂 🌊✌

Well this is certainly not the first time I have watched this hunt , that blue moon at 4:45 is incredible 😍😍😍😍! I already know you get it unstuck yet I still get anxious watching you get it! Probably safe to say I need counseling 😂😂😂 so many beautiful moons in this hunt! Love them all!

Hi Kathy! Yes - all the layers 😂 I am so puffy with layers sometimes I'm surprised I can even move! Haha. We were out there for about an hour in the snow and an hour the next day. Sometimes when there are so many shells like that, it's so hard to leave, but when the weather is that bad you gotta' go. 😳
O love those huge blue moon snails ,it's the first time I have seen them..just an idea have you thought about taking a hot water thermos and pouring water on the best shells?

The big blue ones are my absolute favorite to find. My favorite color is blue :) Yes - some other shellers have suggested that! The issue is when a shell is frozen you have to bring it back to normal temperatures very slowly or they crack or fragment and fall apart. This happened to a few that I collected - I was totally bummed. I've since discovered a screwdriver works best! Thank you so much for watching!!
I have recently found your RUclips channel and enjoying very much! Specially ths video. I have watched other shelling videos and the shells seem a bit boring - most white, pale, brown, orange etc. rarely any color! So I was excited to see all the blue today! I have decided when I have the opportunity to go shelling again , which is rare because I live in land locked Alberta Canada! I am goin to keep my eyes open for blue! I may have to come to your neck of the woods!

Absolutely loved this video. Love how you incorporated the "how to" and "when" to go snow shelling. It is so important as well to keep Marine staff notified of dead creatures. There were staff last week at my beach (Tybee Island, GA) with a washed up deceased Sea 🐢. Such beautiful finds with my beautiful friend!!

Pardon me if this is a dumb question, could you carry a small thermos of hot water to assist in thawing a shell that is frozen! 😮 you are such a trooper to be out there at all in single digit weather! Hats off to you! You are an amazing sheller! 🐚
Thank you so much for watching! Not a crazy question at all! But...if you put hot water on them, they crack and break. You have to bring them up to temp very slowly to avoid breakage. ✌️🌊❤️

I feel like it is worse for you because you can actually see the treasure and can't get it. Also my favorite line... "It's 32 degrees, its almost like summer". Hi Sherry! Not a crazy thought at all - I've even considered it, but then with all the elements, like the wind, I am sure I would spill it on myself and then I would be both cold and wet. A friend of mine suggested a hammer and screwdriver. I may test that next time. Hopefully the shell doesn't break. Sometime water gets in the shell and freezes. Once it expands it breaks the shell and it looks like it exploded! Oh the joys of winter! Thank you so much for watching!!!
You need to take a flat head screw driver with you, then you can can pry them or dig around them.

@@davepicard4476 Awesome!...be sure to call the refuge or check out their website before the drive. The gates to some lots may be closed and on a rare occasion, they close the refuge. It's good to check before making the drive. I was at Scusset Beach on the Cape a couple months ago. Very beautiful. Looking a for a Cape Beach to find some knobbed or channel whelks. Hi TutleLily! I tried one test with Polyurethane, but the blue oxidized to orange still. But...this last set of blue storm shells I found, stayed blue. I love it! ❤️ I will give an update in my next video :)

Hi Shannon! Yes - 100% for sure! Safety 1st. I always have people on the beach with me. You can see some size 9 Pumas pop in and out on this last video and some people in in a few shots. I actually had 2 people with me on this trip! I always ask if they want to be filmed and in some cases they do and some they don't.
