Nice 👍 .. thanks for sharing. During this morning's Nordic Walk, I was mulling over which Cook Set to use with my Breakfast Oats. After watching this post, it'll be the Canteen Cup and Stove Set for the Oats together with the 'Schweizer Armee Feldflasche M84' Canteen Cup in which to boil the water. My usual addition to the Oats (I use the standard rolled oats .. it takes a wee bit longer to cook but I enjoy the creamier constituency thereof) .. bananna, peanut butter, honey, salt, ground cinnamon and cayenne pepper. Yumm and it keeps one going until Supper. Esbit Tabs .. here in Switzerland, one can only get them at specialist Outdoor Stores .. and, they're quite pricy. I keep a pack in my little Esbit Folder (for 'just in case') but my 'GoTo' replacement is Alcohol Gel Fuel ('Sicherheitsbrennpaste') .. available everywhere .. Supermarkets, local Convenience Stores, etc .. and much cheaper. I haven't seen one of your Feeds for some time now .. nice to see you back .. take care ..
I find myself watching your videos over and over. Glad to see a new one. You have the absolute best videos on vintage military and boy scout mess kits and canteens. I hope you can do a similar video on all your canteens, similar to the one you did on the mess kits. Also the canteen cups. Looking forward. I'd like to send you a Holy grail of mess kits to review. Please DM me and I'll send you the kit for your review and for your collection. Thanks for all you do John... God bless
@@danielromero8830 I wholeheartedly agree with you sir. I have two complete swedish mess kits, cups and all, but both are aluminum. They work great, and I really like them, but the day I find one in stainless for a price that won't require a second on the house, it's mine! 😁
@@jeepnicc Got sick of looking as the price of the stainless M40 kit skyrockets so I bought the reproduction stainless PF-M40 from Self Reliance Outfitters with the new designed burner. What a great piece of kit that I am not afraid to use or damage.
@@jamesharvey44 Yep. Me too!! Great piece of kit, affordable, not afraid to beat it up. I just got the Pathfinder M34 scout canteen as well. Get you one! You'll like it!
Man! That was awesome John! Those tamales looked more like something out of a nice authentic Mexican restaurant than canned cuisine. Looks like everyone had a great time. Thanks for sharing! Jerry
Love me some tamales smothered in cheese and old WW2 boy scout mess kit cooking. Got my 2nd one a few months ago and couldn't be happier with how well the carbon steel seasons. Absolutely my favorite mess kit to cook in.
I love my WW2 BSA kit too. That carbon steel skillet is awesome. It’s also a great collector piece. They want a lot of money for them on eBay now. Thanks for watching my video!
Nice scout mess kit👍 I saw in yours videos Condor kephart knife this knife is better for outdoor kitchen and allround camping work than Gerber LmF.. You made nice videos👍
Beautiful river. I like those canned tamales too. I don’t eat enough of to worry about any health issues. My brother slices them up and adds them to his breakfast burritos 😊
Glad I could help. Thanks for watching my videos and for your comments. We had a great time and I hope you are able to get out soon and enjoy your woods too. Catch you next time.
It was a great trip! Best of all those two boys enjoyed themselves and caught a few fish and tested their skills. Thanks for watching and commenting again on my videos!
Not a full load out. But I do have a playlist with what I think is all my Boy Scout videos. I might have missed one though. Here is the link: ruclips.net/p/PLBXZMNeFA86uOEJjejKfLecZA1RuWCSE7
Nothing real big. I caught two small largemouth bass (about 11 inches long each) and one big mudfish (bowfin). The mudfish (local name), is no good to eat. The largest bass was about 3 lbs and was caught by my brother in law on our way to the takeout landing. Those boys caught quite a few panfish and a bass. They had a blast. Thanks for watching another of my videos!
That’s a pretty good nickname. They used to call me Catfish John because as a young man I would get off work and go catfishing all night and then show up for work the next day without sleep. Oh to be young again.

"They're not good for you, but they're good". Truer words have never been spoken. Don't forget the Tums. LOL. Looked like a great outing.

Just curious, what is the grail of mess kits?
@@jeepnicc well in my opinion it is the swedish M40 stainless steel mess kit. As far as military surplus goes.

Great to see your cook gear in use on an overnight trip! Scenery was beautiful, radio antenna worked fine, and fishing was good.
Thanks Professor! I have been enjoying your new videos. Great work on those. Thanks for stopping by and for your comment!
Please keep these GREAT vids a'commin, they are so enjoyable.
Great video. Still have my scout mess kit from the 70's. Red case. I never use it but can't get rid of it. Stays in our camp gear box tho.
Hi John! Im living in Europe and watching your videos about that bsa mess kit makes me want one.
Great job, thank you so much.

I think it’d be super cool if you created videos using all your vintage mess kits to prepare their time period dishes.

Nice river camp spot. Did you guys catch any big fish 🐟

Was this on the river between the dam and St John’s? I’ve scoped that area for years but have never found a camp spot.
No. This is the area called The Bluffs on the Hwy 316 canoe outpost map. The sites are between Hwy 40 and Gore's Landing. Closer to Gore's
I caught so many pan fish when I was growing up on the Brazos River that my friends just called me "Perch Jerker" lol
