  • Sven Kirchhoff, Director of Service and Quality for Torqeedo opens up a battery and motor to reveal some of the patented technologies that make Torqeedo a complete system that provides the best in safety, performance, longevity, range, range knowledge, waterproofness and service. He explains how thrust is measured. Jeff Little carries out a functional demonstration of the IP-67 Waterproof Certification by submerging a 915 Watt hour battery into a tank for 30 minutes. The communication between motor, throttle and battery is explained using an Ultralight system. Examples of how the integrated GPS module helps the user know remaining range are provided. Motor model specific propeller design is explained, as well as how the right propeller design allows the most efficient use of a rare earth magnet equipped high torque, low rpm electric outboard.

    Jeff, I just launched my new 1103 for the first time, on a Chesapeake Light Craft Wood Duck Double kayak I built, and was super happy with the results. 8.7 mph no-wind top speed (surfed a Lake Superior swell at 9.4 mph) and a 31 mile range at 5 mph! It's not stand-up fishing capable like the roto-molded kayaks, but it's plenty stable for seated fishing (even with the seat raised 4") and it looks to be producing the top performance results of anything in your videos...nice. I'm quite impressed with Torqeedo technology!!!

    I'm looking to power a 15' pontoon and like the new cruise 12.0 that was just announced. My boat has a max hp rating of 30 so I think this motor would be fine. What would the battery configuration require?

    • @TheLittleStuff

      There are options. Two Torqeedo Power 48-5000's are the best option for speed, range, longevity and remaining range display. Email me at jeff.little@torqeedo.com, and I will find a local Torqeedo dealer to help guide you through the battery and charger options.

    What results would I get from installing two 403's on a kayak. ( comparing to a single one) ?

    • @TheLittleStuff
      @TheLittleStuff  3 года назад

      I know something about that from Jim Sammons putting two 403's on the pontoons of a Blue Sky Boatworks, as well as seeing jon boaters use two Cruise 4.0's instead of a single Cruise 10.0. You don't get better speed. Stick with one more powerful motor if speed and range is your goal.

    Wish an alloy prop was available for the 1103 Travel. The plastic prop isn’t very tough, and a spare is $100

    They break the circuit up into three separate modules so you need to buy their battery which has part of the circuit you need to run it inside. This way you cannot use a generic battery and they charge you $1,000 for their battery. The cells are epoxied into the housing so you can't change them either. They also put the electronic speed control circuit in the lower unit that goes underwater. It leaks and that gets ruined. Repair is about what a new motor costs. They claim 3 horsepower but it only consumes the equivalent of 1.25 horsepower. it cannot produce any more than that, its a 1.25 horsepower motor.

      Are you asking if the Ultralight 1103 will be too heavy on a Hobie Outback? No, it works well - no issues. I got my 2019 Outback up to around 6.4/6.5 mph with it.

    Charger is inside the battery.
    They only provide a 24 v power supply .
    My charger didn't work after 2 years.
    So you have to replace the whole battery.
    This is not a good design for the customer .
    Perfect for the manufacturer 💰🖕

      This is not true. The chargers at external. If the battery has an issue requiring repair, there are 12 Torqeedo certified service centers to make those repairs to the battery.
