Of course, the next step after buying the fat bike was to deep dive into every fat bike video on RUclips ever made. Came across this one- one of my faves. Nice work!

    The difference in rolling resistance between budget tires and really good tubeless must be immense. I rode a really high priced fat bike and it felt like pedaling a skinny tire bike. It was the tires that made the difference.

    Nice vid, and great upgrades. I bought my Rocky Mountain Blizzard 20 and the first thing I did was add a OneUp Components V1 dropper post for under$150. I'm swapping the MT201 brakes for SLX ones, and replaced the factory pedals with RockBros STAMPs. I added two lights (since it gets dark sooner in the winter), and a frame mount for a pump and CO2. Next up is a suspension fork, but that's NOT a cheap upgrade.

      @CobraKyle  4 года назад

      Good stuff! I wanted suspension too, but could never pull the trigger when seeing the cost. I was gonna go with the Manitou Mastadon. People seem to really like that fork.

And there's a joy to trail riding a fatty that's hard to explain, but so evident to anyone who has. That said, I soon hope to give a plus bike a chance and see if the split difference is my goldilocks zone.

    Glad I found your channel. Just getting back into bikes from when I was a bmx kid. My dad was a road bike racer growing up. When I decided to get a bike I decided I didnt want to spend a bunch of money on a bike bc I might loose interest after a bit. Growing up I always road bike shop bikes not department store bikes bc dad refused to buy them from anywhere but a real bike store as he said. I dont have to tell you some of those prices. I live in hot springs ar its a big bike city So I just turned into a pawn shop one day to see what they had. I walked in and there sat a mongoose malus fat tire. Yeah I know mongoose is known for being wal mart these days but when I was a kid they were a bike shop bike only except for the blue max sold at western auto. But it was still a mongoose classic under a different name so it was still a real goose. And I'm pretty sure you can still get the real mongoose not a Kent wal mart with mongoose stickers. Anyway I feel in love with it just on a its a beast points. And used it was a good deal so if I lost interest no big money loss just 200 bucks. The other fat tire I seen on Craigslist was a gravity and it was 350 so I grabbed the goose. there are up grades i want to do like bars gear shifter breaks but thats all to make it more ride friendly. I didnt know till this video that diamond back made a fat tire. That was the brand bmx I rode back in the day and as much as I love that dang mongoose I want to find a fat tire db now. The goose won't be wasted I got a buddy who is getting back into bikes he loves that fat tire and he is on a limited budget. Im good on money so now that I know I love riding I dont mind spending some cash on one so I will give my buddy the goose when I find me a db fat tire. It will be a win win for me. I get to help out a less fortunate buddy and have a buddy with a fat tire to thrash trails with.

      Here is a link to the handlebars I got: www.chainreactioncycles.com/us/en/nukeproof-horizon-v2-alloy-riser-bar-31-8mm/rp-prod192543
      I bought the 25mm rise. Mine are an older version that they don't make anymore, but these are pretty much the same.
      As for the geared conversion, it depends on the type of hub your rear wheel has. There's a lot of different scenarios if it will work or not, so it's hard for me to give a definitive yes or no. Google how to do a single speed to geared conversion, and there's a lot of great resources to help you!

And, 6'2", XL bikes, but i thought that was ok. But am reconsidering now as p, on those bikes, I see that leaning on a bar is just not the same thing as holding it (and its weight) in the air. Luna Cycles has the BBSHD 1000 watt electric motor... with the Ludicrous upgrade, it will turn the motor into a 50 amp, 2700 Watt Fat Tire Beast that will get you rolling up any hill or down the 2 track at speeds in excess of 40 miles per hour!... If anything is worth doing bro.... over due it! (Oh... and always ride with your seatbelt on... in lowest gear.... it is a wheelie machine! ).

    2X drivetrains are fine. If the chain drops, you suck at shifting and/or it isn't adjusted properly. They also provide way more top end gear than a 1X can, without losing anything on the low end.

      Will you be using a 1X drivetrain? Depends on how hilly your city is. If you wanna be able to keep up in traffic I would go with a 36 - 40 tooth front chainring. If using a 10 - 11 speed cassette, just find the biggest range you can find that will fit the bike. I think a 10-46 cassette would cover just about everything.

    • @geemail369

      Don't do that - WD40 does *not* dissolve after application and will render the grips useless, since they will come loose on the next install _WAY_ easier due to the residues!
      Use IPA (iso-propyl-alcohol) instead - just jam a cable tie in between bar and grip and squirt into the gap, as you keep working the zip tie in + turning the grip. The IPA will evaporate fully. Works for sliding on those grips as well!

    You are dropping chains because you are not shifting gears correctly. I bet you go through all the gears like you do a car 1 through 8 instead of how you are supposed to. On a 2x or 3x you are supposed to switch gears in the front around halfway through your gears to prevent "cross chaining" and you won't have those loud shifting problems and dropped chains.
    On a 2x8 setup you are supposed to shift:
    Left shifter Right Shifter
    1 1-4
    2 4-8
    Never be in the biggest or smallest gears at the same time. Think of a bikes gears more like a big rig semis gears instead of a sports cars. You never want to be in 1 on the left and 8 on the right or 2 on the left and 1 on the right. That puts your chain in a bind and will damage your drivetrain and chain, even breaking the chain. It surprises me how many people don't know this, and take for granted that bike shifting is supposed to be like a cars, where you go straight through the gears, when it's more akin to big rig shifting and the purpose of these 3 on the front is to keep the chain as straight as possible and to keep the chain out of a bind to prevent chain drops, damage and chain breaks. If you are shifting correctly, you won't have loud shifts, or multiple gears that have the same ratios. I see people going with the 1x systems, and you would think they would do a bit of research first to ensure they are shifting gears right. 1x systems do not fix the issue with cross chaining, so you will still have chain drops and damage done to your drivetrain if you ride too much in the outermost gears. Until the manufacturers fix a drive system that accounts for chain bind the 2x and 3x systems are still better than the 1x system.

    • @CobraKyle
      @CobraKyle  4 года назад

      I never had any issues due to cross chaining. I used to road bike, so I'm very aware of how bad that can be. I was dropping it alot on this particular ride because my old rear derailleur didn't have a clutch and I was going over some very rocky terrain on a rigid frame. I'm hoping the industry follows the trend that Box Prime 9 is going for. 9 speed with same range as the 12 speeds.
