      Another overlooked reason was one Carl cited in his retirement announcement: his health. His career is often defined by these harsh wrecks (this one at Homestead, his hard wreck at Dover, the blow-over years ago at Talladega, etc etc.) He took a lot of knocks, and he had probably had enough of that too.

    I CALLED IT! But here are my thoughts. I actually didn’t watch this race, but I still think it’s sad that Carl lost the championship simply because he crashed with only a handful of laps to go, no doubt a result of NASCAR’s “playoff” format. I’m not only against the current format, but I’m also against the Chase all together, because in my opinion, it sometimes doesn’t crown a true champion. Therefore, Carl Edwards is a 2-time champion to me, having won it in 2008 and 2011. But because he never won a championship, Carl is one of the most underrated drivers of this century. Plus, I do agree that his 2016 loss was a factor in him leaving the sport almost 2 months later.
    Also, Missing Rings: Sterling Marlin 2002

    • @kamxam1384
      @kamxam1384 5 лет назад +2

      I agree mostly. My feeling is that NASCAR died the same year they started the "Chase" and got rid of the old points system. Stages and guaranteed cautions may have sounded good to the people in charge, but they killed their fan base in my opinion and turned it into a game show. Declining ratings and viewers can't ALL be wrong. May be just me, but imho there hasn't been a real champion since they changed everything (Just my .002...lol)

    • @Fater4511
      @Fater4511 5 лет назад

      indeed, you could lead every lap of every race up to the very last lap and still not win the championship because of one moment. also before someone mentions team sports there is not 4 guys going for one win in the championship game and there are not up to 36 other teams on the field that could impact the outcome of those going for the championship. This is why I am against the chase format.

    Missed the fact that the caution that came out with 16 to go was COMPLETELY unwarranted. Dylan Lupton had a tire go down and there was no debris, no spin, out of the race line, and enough power to bring it to pits clean. That was the most frustrating part for me.

    Thank you for making this video definitely my favorite of yours. I was a huge Carl Edwards fan every since I was a kid and he was the only guy I would root for every week. I remember attending the 2016 homstead race thrilled to see Carl Edwards compete. I had never been more exciting during a championship race every lap seeing Carl Edwards lead the final 4 was incredible. I thought he had in it the bag but that bs caution came out. I’ll never forget on that restart how mad I was when he crashed. I was upset for a bit but then I thought “He’ll win next year” But there was no next year and when he announced his retirement my heart sank like the titanic. I wish I could’ve seen my idol win one championship but I’ve grown to appreciate his career and the class act he is. It isn’t the same without you Carl - Thank you

    I am a HUGE Jimmie Johnson fan but I fell very bad for Carl Edwards because he chould have won the championship that year if he haven't wrecked. I was rooting for him to win the championship in 2016 just in case if Jimmie didn't win the championship. As we about to restart with Carl in the lead then he tired to bock Logano and ending up causing a big wreck I was both happy, sad, and mad at the same time. Posted this your 2011 one for Carl I figured a copy and paste would suffice.
    Carls missing rings season stats:
    2008: 9 wins, 19 top 5s, 27 top 10s, 1282 laps lead, 9.5 avg finish
    2011: 1 win, 19 top 5s, 26 top 10s, 903 laps lead, 9.3 avg finish
    2016: 3 wins, 9 top 5s, 18 top 10s, 918 laps lead, 13.9 avg finish.
    While I do believe Carls words at his retirement speech (others don't but that doesn't surprise me). I also do believe that Arris forced him out for Danial Suarez. The last restart of his career is something that i'm pretty sure Carl would have done it too Joey if roles were reversed. Carl went out with class, he has also had classless moments in his career.
    I am glad he is keeping busy in his retirement but I don't miss him.

    Could definitely do a missing ring for byron this same season in trucks. Won several races until a blown motor at Phoenix in the fall kept him out of the final 4. I was at that race and as soon as we heard his motor going flat switch our radios to his channel and he couldn't have been more humble doing nothing but thank his team for their hard work after knowing his championship was done. Dont forget too he went on the win homestead in the final race.

    Not just 2016. 2008, he had 8 top 5s in the chase. The wreck at Talladega and mechanical issue at Charlotte doomed him. Then we all know how 2011 went.

    1 thing that i thought of while watching this was. Ever since Carl left nascar the 19 car has not won a race once. Suarez didn't win. Truex hasn'r won yet. its almost like the nascar gods put a curse on that car ever since Carl left.

    I have the worst luck with my favorite athletes in different sports. Favre had that heartbreaking interception in 2009 in his last playoff run. The Brewers and Bucks haven't reached a World Series and Finals in decades. And Carl Edwards, in his likely final career race, wrecked out with 10 to go. I've encountered so much heartbreak and failure in sports, I hope that some day I might be victorious, that my Vikings, Brewers, Bucks could win it all some day. But I will never see Carl Edwards win a NASCAR Cup Series championship.
