- I had to go back and brush up on this for some upcoming shows for the 30th anniversary of Slave To The Grind. After seeing some people on Instagram playing it, I thought it would make a good lesson.
Enjoy!
I never understood it why Scotty isn’t talked about more . He literally wrote some of the best guitar solos of all time!
Exactly!
Maybe because he's focused on being a good musician, and not a prima donna
For sure!!!! Let the lead fit the song and he did it. I could go on and on about this.
Easy bro! The music industry is more worry on shunning light on new and young garbage to influence other idiots and make profit.
Man, he is very melodic and all his solos makes sense, if you know what I mean. Big fan here and thanx for showing how those solos are supposed to be played, although some viewers thinks you are not playing it right LoL
Love that he has some of the same gear yet from 30 years ago and how humble he is. Much respect
You did some of the very best solos of the era man! Thanks for the memories!!
Agreed.
Same!
Absolutely!
@@xhaleyxx Absolutely he did!
So many memories around this beautiful song and fantastic solo. Time goes by, and this is definitely part of the soundtrack of our life! A big hug from Italy...
Scotti - I saw you on Uncle Ben's channel and I had to drop by. I'm truly amazed at how awesome the YT community is. Seeing rock and roll royalty sharing some of the most incredible insight on this platform is just awesome. Thanks for stepping through this and thank you for sharing your art with guys like me. -Greg
One of the two most underrated guitarists of my generation. Snake is the other.
I have never heard anybody underrate Scotti Hill. On the contrary.
I think the word 'underrated' is overrated, personally.
My apologies. No offense intended. My comment was meant to be tongue-in-cheek. He is one of the greats, there’s no doubt.
💯
thanks for taking the time Scotti you"re awsome!!
Your leads are always so well thought-out and constructed. You definitely serve the song
Scotty -you have been an inspiration to me, since 1988. I’m so glad to see you sharing the magic that you brought to us all in Skid Row!!! you are a patient and natural teacher, I am one of the folks who recall it was said you and Snake were teaching back before the record came out.
That note, that one Jeff Beck note that drifts into a harmonic screams to my soul EVERY fkn time man. I bought this album the day it was released in Australia and listen to it all the time still. This album is a major in the soundtrack of my life. Thanks so much Scotty, I never tried to learn this before because I didn't want to butcher it. I might give it a go now. Thanks brother
Scotti's solos are amazing!! technique, tone, melody. Few players can pull this off, and Scotti does it over and over again!!!!
I remember as a kid hearing "In a darkened room" and it just blew me away! Inspired me to pick up the guitar! That solo to this day still is one of my favorites to crank the amp and play! Thanks for all the amazing tunes and rock on 🤘
I seen skid row with pantera in 1990 in roanoke va. Im 53 now and skid row is still one of my favorite bands. Scotti Hill you rock
My favourite Scotti solo. Must have been a great moment when you jagged that big harmonic in the studio. Thanks for sharing man.
My favorite song and solo from Skid Row! Thanks for sharing Mr. Hill.
You are a legend my brother! Just want to thank you 🙏 for your music, which inspired me and got me through High School, the United States Marine Corp and 30 years of Marriage. It has been a fun ride and I am grateful.
Scotti and Snake, your guys are THE MOST inspiring Hard Rock/Metal guitarists for me! Slave to the Grind and Subhuman Race inspired me soooo much. You guys produced the most kick ass riffs and solos without all the over the top shredding that are too complex to achieve and tiresome after awhile. One of my fav songs of all, THANK YOU!!!!!!!
I just came across this video. It brought me back to 1990. I was 10 years old when I started listening to Skid Row. I'm 41 now !! My dad took me to see you in Fort Lauderdale in 91. They had a "nobody" open up for them called Pantera. LoL. By the time I started playing guitar, I grew into heavier music. But I am going to learn the solos that you made videos for. Don't know if you will ever see this but thanks for everything. I still remember every word to every song on your first 2 tapes( yeah, I had tapes !)
Dude, this is incredible. Thanks so much for this Scotti!!!! You're the Greatest Man!!!!!!!!!!
Man, I love many guitar players, but you're defintitely the one whose solos touch my heart deeply. Keep delivering it!
That guitar solo sound in this song back in the 90's is what makes me learn guitar. Verry soulfull and nail the song emotion.
Wow! Just WOW! This is childhood dreams come true! You were/ARE still an inspiration! Truly one of the absolute best. Thank you for this, and all that you've done 👍
My favourite Skid song. Saw you guys live play in Brixton UK! Best gig ever.
No.You playing solos of songs that inspired our lives means a lot for us.Thanks bro.
Hey Scotty!!! Cheers from Brazil!!! We love you!!! 🇧🇷🔥🎸
Hi Scotti!!!

Hey Scotti! Great lesson - thanks for posting this!!! 🎸🔥🔥🔥👍🏻
Scotti your legend grows by sharing your craft with all us diehards and guitar hacks.Ty Sir from Australia man
Always loved this one. It's patient, not in a rush. Very expressive. Great solo from a great player.
You are the fucking Master. I love your guitar man, like a car driving at night with no plate speeding with your amazing solos...long live for you.
Major props for taking the time to create these tutorials for your fans. Not everyone takes the time for this. I appreciate it and I'm sure most everyone does.
Damn. Rarely see an artist giving instructions this clear in a video lesson. Great video, thank you!
More videos, Scotti, we miss you man, you are the best and we love your tutorials
Killer! Chain Gang next? Thanks for sharing!
Bought everything skid row, listened to everything skid row, dreamed about being half as good of a guitar player as you. Seen you guys and wish you guys good health. You made an impact on my playing. Thank you and I wish you well.
Awesome solo, awesome music, awesome album... 🔥
3 years ago picked up my first skid row cassette and changed my life scotti you’re a huge inspiration for me. 19 years old and playing skid rows cover of cold gin in our band. Keep the videos coming man🖤🤘

You are so kind. Thank you for sharing and caring your beloved work ! Stay strong and healthy ! 🎸🎶☺️🤗
Killer man! Your attitude is as likable as your solos. Thanks for making great music. Skid Row will always be a soundtrack of my youth and beyond.
Hey Hill, you are the best.. thank you man for this amazing creation!
Scotti. It's such a weird coincidence. I was mowing my lawn yesterday and this song came on. I marvel at this solo in real time on the album. Such a great melodic piece. For some reason, I particularly like the end of the solo how it melds back into the song. Great work brother. I love your work.
Love you, Scotti!🤘
OMG that's the guitar you played at Moscow back in 89, I'd love to see a video about that blue beauty, you're the best Scotty
I know what I’ll be working on this weekend. Thanks Scotti 😎🎸🤘🏽
I still amazed 👍🏻🥃
I remember back then, 92 or 93, learned to play Wasted Time, especially the solo part. I ended up bought the album (cassette tape though) 3 times, and they're all broken because I kept push the play-pause-rewind-fforwad buttons.
Salute 🥃✌🏻
It's beautiful melody! Now i can fully understand. Thank you my hero!
How kind person he is as a shred god he took time to share and show us all the how-to of his one legendary solo.
Now who's rock/metal guitar player who never share any lesson or tips to his fans?
Please Mr. Scotti sir, please make a few more vids of pretty much EVERYTHING on Skid Row and Slave to the Grind? Those albums truly define the youth of just a few people. And those amongst us that play any instrument are ALWAYS grateful for any insight or information into the process and feelings of awesome music.
The king of melodic solos in my opinion
Love the tone. That guitar rips as well. You were clearly born to play and have proven that. I always felt like of you weren't in Skid Row, you'd have made an amazing MegadetH guitarist too!
Scotti is such an underrated guitarist. Never understood why he doesn’t get more credit. He has amazing style, writes some amazing and memorable solos. The solos on the skid row records hit ya, and make ya feel something. Can’t wait to hear some of the new solos on the new record
Iconic and brilliant solo. Generously responding to guitar fans' wish list. Says a lot about the man behind the fabled blue Jackson.
Dont forget does another CD this 2021. Regards.
Now I can die in peace man
Yo tambien , las tabs del guitar pro no eran exactas
Dude. That’s literally a fusion solo. That sustain and vibrato is just killer. Good luck with the new record bro.
One of my favourite guitarists of all time
I love your playing!!! Been a fan since the beginning!!😊😊😊🔥🔥🔥🎸🎸🎸
This lesson is priceless..thank you Scotty
Definitely one of my all time favorite Skid Row solos. Scotti Hill - you are amazing. Thanks for sharing brother. I look forward to practicing this one.

Melody Master 🤟🏼🔥🔥🔥
This song goes to my heart. Such a beautiful song.
What a great song and video! Slave is a masterpiece in my opinion.
I love these lessons man.. I hope you do more brother.. Very cool man.. !
Very underratted guitarist, He gets to the point makes his statement and gets out..Some of the best solos to date , Scotti has made them...
ONE OF THE ALL TIME GREATEST ARTIST! SOME OF THE MOST, EXPLOSIVE AND CREATIVE SOLOS EVER HAVE COME FROM THIS GUY! Him, Dave "the snake" and Jerry Cantrell were the reasons I started playing myself.
Thank you so much Scotty for taking time to teach this epic solo ☺️☺️
Btw just a request if u could teach us the solo to "Quicksand Jesus",, the solo to this song is so emotional 😍😍
Thank you Scotti, I love your control of the whammy bar - time for me to do some more practice I think!!
*My man you are one of the most under rated guitarist on this planet! The things that you write, makes one wonder what you were channeling - the expression and voicing I just have not really heard any where else; realer than real deal HolyField - one of a kind player and one of my greatest guitar inspiration 33 years now! ........ How do you get your guitar to sustain so easily without the volume?*
ps: have your hands always been that big? ...No HOMO
truly a memorable one!!!! thanks a lot!!!!!
Scotti , you are the best !!!!
Thank you Scotti
I was at the giants stadium show when sam kinison introduced skid row when u opened for Bon Jovi. It should have been the other way around. I was close to the stage that I still have your guitar pick from that show. Thanks for the memories that I’ll never forget. Have to be honest. Skid row is not the same without bas. I hope on your final skid row tour you will do one last go around with Sebastian and put all the egos to the side and do it for the skid row fans who have been with u guys since day one. And if u do , it has to be at the stone pony and starland ball room although a concert at the point pleasant beach would be a hell raiser for metal heads like myself.
Next one can you do the In a Darkened Room?? That solo is god like.
i support this idea !! 🤞
Yes please! 🤘🏻
Amen to thad
Up up
The solo of Quicksand Jesus is amazing too
I Love this song
Scotty, this is so cool. Would love to see some lessons from you. How you got to where you are today. Anything you would of done differently knowing what you know now. What your practice regimen was like.
I’ll remember you is and will always be one of favorite solos. Just beautiful man. Still remember the first time I saw that video on MTV. When the solo ended I was like what just happened? Mind just blown!
Dude, I can't take it no more! We had tickets to see Skid Row five times this summer and the first two have already been canceled and another one rescheduled. Is ZP definitely going to get here before more get canceled? We have tickets to one show that is in the party pit which is a little roped off area right in front of you that we are calling Scotti seats! My daughter and I are so excited we are chomping at the bit to go home with a Scotti pick. Please tell me that ZP is on his way so we can still rock with you guys 3 times this summer. We like to say that if you look up rock n roll in the dictionary, there should be a picture of Scotti Hill!
New singer Rocks!!!!!!!!!and so do you
I love this solo
Scotti as i told u, i like your vibrato
Love that tone!
Such an underrated player great lines
Epic thank you !
Thank you for the lesson, Scotti. What guitar model is that?
