Exploring Malaysia on a Kawasaki Z900 (+ Mavic Air drone)

- I recently moved home to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. I'd sold my BMW S1000R before moving over - customs duty on foreign bikes imported into Malaysia is insanely high. Of course I couldn't live without a bike, so I immediately set about getting one.
After a bit of research, it seemed the Yamaha MT09 and the Kawasaki Z900 were both a good fit. Anything bigger (Z1000, MT10, S1000R etc) see a massive jump in price due to taxes.
As soon as I got the Z900, I set about exploring Malaysia with my drone - DJI Mavic Air - and this video is the result.
Locations featured include: Genting, Fraser Hill, Penang, Sekinchan, and Sepang International Circuit.
This is my first proper attempt at a moto vlog - let me know what you think in the comments below!
I just spent 5 minuets with my jaw on the floor. Great video man.
Thank you very much!
Right... I don't say this often but dam I'm jealous!
635th subscriber.. just because of this video. I miss Malaysia alot. Used to live in Cyberjaya. Every weekend we friends drive around Malaysia. Good food, nice people, happy life. 4 Years went just like that.
Thanks!! Cyberjaya is beautiful and peaceful. If I didn't have to work in central KL I would be very tempted to live there! Been in Malaysia almost a year now, and still love the country - I feel really blessed.
this is totally underrated. i hope you produce more content like this one. subbed.
Thank you! Will try to produce more soon :)
Killer video, mate. A good friend of mine bought a Z900 and I had an absolute blast on it yesterday. I visit KL from time to time as I manage a team there (am based out of India) and the next time around I'd love to rent a bike and ride around in my free time. Many thanks for the upload. Ride safe.
Nice one mate. It's a great all round bike and plenty of power to have fun! When I first visited Malaysia there weren't many companies offering rental of big bikes, I used www.ridemalaysia.com.my/, but now there are a few more companies. Hope you get the chance to check out the great Malaysian roads once this corona business is over :)
Wow....excellent editing....concept....and great riding.
Thanks!
I like the naration, short and concise, plus the view from mavic air is stunning! Now I know some good place for leisure riding.
Thanks mate
If you park in the basement as shown in your video, it is critically recommended to either change your caliper/master-pump bolts to some security type ones or put 3-tonnes epoxy glue into the bolt heads.. Why? Because Malaysia is full of bike part thieves, and insurance doesn't cover the theft.
If you think the bike price is insanely high, try not to check the value of your Z900 as a used bike.. LOL..
You have touched most of the usual riding twisty riding roads, nice..
Apart from that, welcome to Malaysia, ride safe & safe ride!
Thanks for the tips bro. Actually I had the dealer fit security bolts to the caliper and master pump before it left the showroom as other people also mentioned the same thing about parts being stolen. Also, the Z900 was a reasonable price - the insanely high price was for the S1000R or any sport bike - was hoping to buy the same BMW again in KL but wasn't happy to pay 30k more than what I paid for it the first time when I bought it outside Malaysia.
For the Z900 it's not that reasonable if you take a quick look at the prices in Thailand. Customs tax is crazy even though it's CKD (complete knock-down) and not a CBU (complete built-up) for CBU the price would normally be at least MYR 10k more. Not mentioning GST.. Lucky that crap is gone. Oh well enough about price talk, just enjoy the ride.
Good that you have those bolts but it's not a guarantee thieves will not try to steal, so best be vigilant and avoid basement park if possible.
I just checked the price in Thailand. It seems the same?
Usually it's cheaper.. I think I forgot to factor in how crappy the Ringgit is now to the Baht in recent years. Oh well.
Ah that explains it. Love your videos by the way!
That drone action at the end was DOPE...EPIC...MONSTRUS....I didnt know drones could fly so far away and so high in the sky by remote like that...👏👏👏🤜🤛🤝🤙✌
Thanks! Actually this is the Mavic Air - runs on wifi - the mavic pro can go even further!
Absolutely loved this video. Surprisingly high production quality!! Deserves way more views
Thank you!
Fantastic bike , and a great video , Thank you . I have a 2006 Z 1000 and a 2014 Z 1000 , and I absolutely love them both . I`m sure you will become very attached to your super cool new bike . Safe riding to you , love the video :)
Thank you so much! Z1000 is a beastly bike! Congratulations!
I did a sharp intake of breath when you rode over that metal-plated bridge and your front wheel wobbled twice on the slippery surface. Good job on not dropping it. I'm amazed by how much the dealership gave you for buying the bike, especially the helmet. Here in the UK, as far as I am aware, buying a Z900 gets you bugger-all in terms of 'freebies'?
Haha yeah, I almost soiled myself when I wobbled on that wet metal bridge, was totally unexpected 🤣 There are a lot of Kawasaki dealers here, so competition is fierce - they don't negotiate on the price much but they do give a decent amount of freebies!
Same here in the USA. Freebies? No way.
Very enjoyable video. Relaxing.
Not great wind protection but the airflow is smooth with the smaller factory shield.
Ride well.
Thanks dude. I've upgraded to an MRA windshield, even bigger. Helps a little. I will try removing it at some point and see about the smoother airflow like you said.
great story telling...
the pictures are great..
Beautiful bike..and you are amazing rider...
until we ride again..
enjoy
From the other side of world, Spain, congratulations, beautifull video and most beautifull country!!!
Thank you! You have beautiful and amazing roads in Spain too, I used to drive my car down there when I lived in London :)
I lived and worked in KL in the early 80's, your vlog brought back some memories - Cheers.
That's great :) You should try and visit again when you have a chance, it's still a beautiful city.
Nice Edit...nice Bike ...nice Entertainment...i like ur stuff. Greets und keep up the good work.
Thank you!
I just bought a new z900 assume bike all-around plenty of power very easy to handle very light low stance just love this bike only put 300 miles on it so far but no problems yet that I know of great bike.for 8,999.00
@@robertg9135 It is a great all round bike - fun in the city and fun in the countryside! Good choice bud!
Nice short and crisp video..captures the essence of bike and beautiful Malaysia..good job
Thanks!
Post more content! You're content is way better than 90% of Malaysian motovloggers out there.
Thank you very much. Will try to when I get time away from my day job :)
Hi bro..im malaysian,,come from ipoh,,thank u for Introduction of malaysia,,ur video is nice..and i like ur bike..z900,my dream bike.. hope you can continue to make more nicly videos for introduction of malaysia..
Thank you very much bro. Unfortunately my work takes up most of my time, but I will try to make more when I get a chance!
Top video mate. I’ve got your bike’s brother, the Z900RS. Very comfy bike and it looks great in the orange Jaffa color.
Thanks mate. That's a beautiful bike - I've seen it up close and the build quality and the attention to detail is a step up from the Z900. Congratulations.
Great work! Nice bike. I really like that drone footage at the end.
Thanks mate!
Great video and finally not like a boring 22minutes, like others like to do. You are a good driver and i respect that. I have my self the Z900 and tbh the red doesnt fit it and i would remove the wind shield, you have 0 need in it, just makes it a bit ugly. Hopefully you will get some improvement on the bike, i want to follow that since the z900 sucha nice bike, there are no many parts you can actually buy for it.
Haha thank you very much :) I really need the windshield, in fact I've just gone and got a bigger MRA one! It was killing me on the highway. You're right though - this bike is ugly with a windshield!
This color looks so sick 😍😍 love the red chassis
Awesome vid man, keep it up. I'm thinking about the Z900 myself but what you said about the stiff seat and horrible windblast put me off a little, appreciate the honest review. In any case, I guess there's no harm in doing a test ride
Thanks mate. Well, I guess all naked bikes will have horrible wind blast. I've put a larger windshield on (MRA) which helps a little, but it's still a naked bike that the end of the day :)
Wow amazing video! The last drone shot was EPIC. Keep up the good work and happy riding :D
Thank you very much!
You guys are lucky you have so many colors to choose from here in the USA we only get 2 colors. Congratulations on the new bike that is a really beautiful bike great coice.
Thanks mate. We don't get the full black though, which you do in the USA I think!
And americans are lucky that the bikes arent taxed crazily high like we malaysians do.
Too good.... make more videos..👍
Thanks, I will try soon :)
wow! nice video! and great bike !
Really great content.. But holy crap you're so right the red looks so bad in pictures but that red color scheme on your video plus the golden forks is just so damn good looking. Im drooling over it. Awesome ride, loved the whole experience of buying a new bike i recently did but went with the mt09. Subscribed. Kuala lumpur looks so nice.
Thank you so much. Ah, love the MT09 - it was a really close call between the two. Both great bikes. Yeah the golden forks, almost looks like ohlins, hahahhaha.
From India. Liked yr colour choice of bike and u do superb video editing 👍
Thanks!
just found your channel, your vid is really nice to watch.
Thank you!
Loved it♥️felt like i m personally riding Z900! Great editing. Subscribed🙌
Thank you very much :) Will try to make more videos soon!
At least your review is from riding miles in all weathers , not like these wellies who test ride one from a shop for one hour then give you there verdict,, take care buddy great review and scenery,,, Shane uk 🇬🇧
Thanks mate! I grew up in Glasgow by the way!
What a nice bike shop man! And great video :) i need to save for 2 months then the lovely z900 will be mine too :-)
Awww great! Enjoy it mate!
Nice video dude. Love to see more from u. Im a fan of kawasaki z.
Thanks dude. Unfortunately bogged down with work, but will try and get back to making videos soon.
Great bike, nice video, amazing places, perfect cocktail! I got the same Z900 but black / green. Red / grey model not sold in Europe. Bye from Italy
Black/green is also a great colour scheme! And you have beautiful roads to ride it on. Enjoy!
Appreciate your video, riding and flying the drone to get decent video by yourself. It is quite big effort
Thank you brother!
cool vlog, saw your post on z900forum. Cheers!
Thanks!! Glad you liked it!
Dude awesome video good job. I love it. I have a Vulcan s. I love Kawasaki.
Thank you very much :) Vulcan is an awesome cruiser!
Beautiful vlog damn your videos are underrated
Thanks!
@@BAIKU and the z900 is my dream
There's good reason this bike is so cheap - it's so you can afford the extra 2K in add-ons to make it the bike it should be. The saddle feels like someone put leather right on top of plywood, and the exhaust is what you would expect a factory exhaust to be.
100% spot on. It's great value for what it is, but damn my butt hurt the first time I took it for a long ride.
@@BAIKU I bet, do they make a gel seat for it?
Not sure about that. I've gotten used to it now after a year of daily commuting
17 car drivers didn't like this video
Hahaha
Great Vid. Looks like a good Dealer. Let's some more footage of your red bike.
Cheers mate. They've been pretty decent. I'll hopefully make more videos when I get some time off work :)
Beautiful Bike, Ride 2 Live, Live 2 Ride........................
Great Video bro... Damn.. i miss fun Ride....
What a nice video. Keep it up !
Thank you!
Nice video love the scenery. Ride safe safe man. God bless
Thank you very much. Ride safe brother.
Well done bro. Nice video
Nice video..that drone shot did make it more interesting..welcome aboard bro
Thank you very much bro
Amazing video bro! Planning on getting one. Prefer MT09 or Z900 just like you! 😍😍😍😍😍
Both excellent bikes. I'm sure you will be happy with either!
Exactly but my heart chooses MT09! Maybe one day I could have one of it and we can meet up!
4:14 you're almost fall, that bridge so slippery when rain,I have same experience when cross that bridge,it was so scary because that place was far from anything and I ride alone..
I know right! I didn't realize how slippery it will be, but afterwards of course it makes sense, it's metal! Hahahaha. I'm glad you got home safely!
Great video! Well done. I am thinking to get myself a Z900 aswell. 😃
Thanks. It's a good choice. Enjoy :)
Michelin road pilot 5, that what I got on mine; they are fantastic and long lasting as a bonus. Not cheap though
I've just switched to Bridgestone S21 and the difference is night and day. Those Dunlop tyres that come stock with the bike are so crap that they're dangerous. I've heard that if you buy them off the shelf they're better quality than the factory fitted ones (different manufacturer).
@@BAIKU Yes, mine were Dunlop, they were not bad as a standard tyre but I would not buy them myself. The dunlops might be manufactured under licence by another factory as you mentioned and not up to the normal standard.
I will check the review for the Bridgstone but I think that the Michelin's are hard to beat. I heard that Metzeler Roadtec 01 are worth a look as well. Ride safe and enjoy the bike :)
@@WolfgangVonKempelen838 Thanks dude. I'm a fan of michelin too, but it depends what's on the market and the prices. Still pretty happy with the bridgestones. Pushed them really hard recently and they got nice and sticky hehe :)
Superb video 👌👌👌👌👌
Thank you 😃
Subbed
You're videos are awesome.
Best regards from India
Keep riding.
Thank you very much! Ride safe
Awesome video man god bless uhh
That guy on the parking lot seems like a cool guy
He is, we became friends afterwards :) He has his own RUclips channel, check @RUBBERNMETAL out at www.youtube.com/@RUBBERNMETAL
Yayyyyyy, Hassan!!
Free Shoei helmet? Damn brotha, that place is awesome.
Yeah, nice folks too :)
Nice to meet buddy
Nice to see you too, thanks for having us at your place :)
Bout check out the Mavic now...I was looking at a Hubsan but ahhhh...The mavic has changed my mind
This is my first drone so I can't really compare, but I certainly love it. Good luck!
Nice video man...
Thanks! :)
Amazing footage. I don't think most people realize how many hours of work it is to make a quick video like this. Great job! What did you use to edit this and what kind of drone is that?
Thank you very much :) I used a DJI mavic air, and Adobe Premiere CC to edit. Bike shots were on a gopro hero 5, and the shots inside the store were on a mobile phone (samsung s7) using the dji osmo mobile.
tall puig windscreen is awesome, have one on my z900, no buffeting- I'm 5'7"
Ah yes I saw that one - but personally it looked too much for me. I've installed an RMA one now, which has helped a bit. Still using my ear plugs for long runs!
*I mean MRA hahaha
Great video.
and Great Bike.
Thank you!! :)
how much the z900 in Kuala Lumpur??nice video and very nice red colour and golden forks....different!!
I think these days you can get it for around 50k RM on the road. Yeah, the red is still my favourite :)
Wonderful Video!
Thanks!
@@BAIKU would you like to go out for a ride some day, if you are interested :)
@@ridethez7939 Hi bro, yes I would like to, but at the moment working 7 days and got no time :( Do you have instagram?
@@BAIKU yup, you can reach me @ridethez9 on instagram whenever you are free. all the best in your work ;)
What camera did you use man? Very high quality camera and footage.
I just got my z900 2 weeks ago..
Thank you! It was mostly filmed on an old GoPro 7, the shots in the showroom were filmed on my old Samsung S7 phone on a gimble, and the aerial shots were taken with a Mavic Air. Congratulations on your new bike! The Z900 is such a brilliant all round bike. I sold mine when I left Malaysia last year - have a little Honda Rebel 500 in Scotland now, but plan to get another Z9 at some point :) Enjoy and ride safe!
Instant fan. Keep up the video man. Would like to join you for a ride
Thank you! Yes let's arrange a meet up in the future. At the moment I'm travelling a lot but should be possible in a few weeks!
I have been to Malaysia but not on a bike... I think I should explore the option... Thanks .for the inspiration 😉
Great roads, you'll enjoy yourself.
Nicely done. Ride safe and stay upright . Cheers
Thank you!
love the vid and thumbs up on the bike
Thanks brother
Liked ur video
Keep up the good work...
Plz make a video on how to buy after market products for Kawasaki bikes
Thanks. I'm mostly buying from local stores here in KL, but I hope to produce more videos soon. Thank you!
Great edit...make more detail in every part n location 👍
Thanks bud. Will do when I get more time :)
Get a SC project on that baby!!!
I own one in India and it sounds sick.
Haha thanks. I'll be getting an arrow on this next month hopefully :)
Amazing video bro, I got Z9 the same :) Lets go for a ride sometime!

Nice editing you've got there!
Thanks! You too ;)
Amazing vid
Nice video man, two tumbs up!!
Hope u can visit Indonesia, you're very welcome here :)
Thank you! I've been to Indonesia several times in the last couple of years for work - breathtakingly beautiful country and really lovely people. Jakarta traffic gives me nightmares though, hahahah.
Good video dude nice place to live
Thanks dude
great video! :)
Thank you!
Nice video. Out of curiousity, do big bikes need to pay for toll in Malaysia? 4:53
Thanks! Only on the Penang bridge, otherwise it's free :)
Nice bike bro enjoy your ride..👍🏻
Nice ride bro. Hopefully we can ride together. Love ride! Even when your visor is foggy. 😉
Thank you! Subscribed to your channel. Yes let's ride together in future. Haha foggy visor :)
I really liked your video il keep up
Thanks!
Did you get a discount on the bike or was the helmet + voucher the discount? If so, how much was the items in total? Greetings from austria
Hello mate. Didn't get a discount, all the dealers were around the same price at the time, just different freebies thrown in (the helmet and voucher etc). I think I paid 52k RM on the road, but that was almost two years ago. The price is less now - I think 48k. By the way, I've driven through Austria - breathtakingly beautiful country!
Any particular reason that you bought the Z900 over the MT09?
Hey mate. It was a difficult choice. Both are great. I felt the Z900 was a little smoother and had a bit more power in the mid and upper range, and I didn't really feel like I needed all the electronics on the MT09 (had them on my previous bikes and barely used them, although the quickshifter would have been good). But honestly, they're both great. If I was limited to urban riding I think the MT09 would come out on top, but on highway speeds I think the Z900 has a better seating position (less wind blast).
7:05 beautiful
Hi all,
Finally got round to putting up another video: ruclips.net/video/38E8sC4P5Kk/видео.html&t=
Check it out!
Hello just a little bit question ,
How about Z900 in 2021 ?!!!
Can I still get this colour or not ?!!!
I just like red one too mate.
😃
Wow you exploring Malaysia more than me as malaysian😂
That's always the way bro 🤣 I didn't properly explore my own country, Scotland, until after I moved away
Well done laddie! Like that you keep the talk to a minimum. Love Malaysia, can you comment on WTF so many Malaysia bikers remove their mirrors??
My view is it's critical to have 360 vision on a bike. Your thoughts?
Thanks! Yeah I'm not that much of a talker :)
I totally agree with you. I once took the mirrors off my Monster after I dropped it and broke one, and I felt completely naked and vulnerable, paranoid about not knowing what was behind me and was always looking over my shoulder, which then means not paying attention in front.
Why do they do it? My guess is because it makes life easier when filtering through traffic - we've all bumped a car mirror or two at some point - or because it's broken off and they haven't bothered replacing it or can't afford to. I see a few driving around without any lights at night too and that's ridiculously dangerous.
@@BAIKU lol, Malaysia a different, unique way of doing things. Agree, I feel completely naked without mirrors. I suspect they may do it for aesthetics? Weird if so. Rather stay alive than look good crashing.. 😬
Yeah could be aesthetics, especially if it's a superbike. I'll ask the next biker I see without them! Do you live in Malaysia?
@@BAIKU Singapore, worked KL for 4 yrs. Cheers
@@brianallwood1330 Nice one mate. Absolutely loving the roads here.
Awesome video

Thank you. I live in Malaysia, moved here almost a year ago. I bought the bike when I arrived (you see the buying process in the video).
@@BAIKU thank u
Nice vlog bro, may I know what helmet cam your using? It's superb clear.
Thank you! Yes sure, it's a gopro hero 5.
PacificBaiku thanks 👌
Good choice👍
Nice edit
Thanking you :)
hey man, first of all amazing content! editing is light and efficient, video quality is crystal clear, great job
I might be travelling to Thailand or Malaysia in the upcoming months, and im wondering if I should buy a bike here (Im fron France) and bring it with me, or buy it directly there and bring it back to France once im done travelling. Which one would you recommend? (also can I ask how much was the price for that z900? if not I totally understand)
Anyhow you just got a new subscriber, cant wait to follow your journey
Thanks man! Firstly, this is quite a complicated issue - I tried shipping mine to Malaysia but the hurdles were huge for a permanent transfer (both in terms of tax and paperwork). However, if you're shipping it temporarily, you can bring it in without paying much, but then have to take it back out the country within 3 months I think. This guy has done it: trueworldtravels.com/shipping-a-motorcycle/
Having said that, since you're coming from France your shipping costs might be quite high, and I assume it will take a long time to get there. Personally I would probably opt to buy a used bike in Thailand and Malaysia and then ride it over and back again and sell it before leaving. Probably less hassle in in terms of shipping and less risk of getting stuck in a port in some bureaucratic nightmare. You may lose some money on the value of the bike, but then you won't be spending any on shipping and processing at the ports etc.
I paid 52k ringgit on the road including full maximum coverage insurance and personal insurance. The price has dropped in Malaysia by a couple thousand ringgit since then due to the change in government here and the cancellation of the 6% GST tax.
Maybe try asking on some expat forums too about the shipping, as the rules can change and only those who have actually gone through the process can give you solid information.
PacificBaiku wow thank you for detailed insight! I'll check that link out, that might be what I'll do yeah
I thought about buying a used one once I'm there and it's the best idea on paper I think. I'm just afraid I won't find the bike I want but that's being picky
Again thank you so much for your time and answer, can't wait for your next videos :)
I subscribed you here ☺ nice vlog..love from 🇮🇳 india..
Thank you so much 😊
Hi bro , it’s nice bike and video
