Brings back memories. Used to travel from Becontree to Stamford Brook every day for work until I relocated to Ireland for a new job. The Tube is one of the main things I miss about back home.
About 16 years ago I used to use the District line frequently - I miss it!! I remember back then it had - in the pre refurbishment days - the original aluminium on the exterior as well as brown and orange patterned fabric on the seats and bobble hand grips :D
I was born in July 1974, therefore got to see most of my all-time favourite Underground trains, barring the F.20, L.31, M.35; and the 1931/34 TS trains. I sorely miss the Underground trains I grew up with. I was 5.5 years old when the first D Stock train was put into passenger service in January 1980, back then the livery was for the most part unpainted aluminium, except for the front lower ends of the DM cab ends which were red; I absolutely loved this livery, and the hinged emergency exit doors were painted orange on the inside. Back then the D Stock trains sounded different to how they did after refurbishment, I hated the red white and blue corporate livery. I loved the sounds of the D Stock trains, they were the last batch of Sub-Surface Underground trains that sounded like proper old style Sub-Surface trains. I am grateful to those who have filmed the D Stock and posted their videos on RUclips.
I remember my days in East Ham, used to take this everyday to Mile End then the Central Line to Oxford Circus. This line literally smells like curry at the end of the day!
