Shawn: Your story touched me so much and you are so brave and truly an inspiration to me and I’m sure to everyone that sees this video. Although I never have been in prison, I too have fought addiction, was raped at age 14, in high school, and because of shame never told a soul. I spent my adult years in abusive relationships as that became my norm. Generational trauma is a pattern that is so hard to break, but you did it. I am so glad to know you and you are so brave for doing this. Telling our stories is the only way to overcome toxic shame and to help stop the stigma of mental illness. Thank you so much

Elaina, thank you so much! As long as we feel shame and guilt and as long as we keep this bottled up in us our abuser will always have control over us. I had to get to the point to forgive my abusers (yes I have been victimized numerous of times). Know I haven't forgotten but I have forgiven. That's the only way I was able to move on with my life and begin the healing process. While facilitating numerous of groups I deliberately shared because it's my way of getting others to open up and start their healing process. I would suggest finding someone to talk to, journal your feelings, and most importantly take care of yourself both mentally and physically. It's never selfish to take care of yourself. Again, thanks for the reply.
