Thank you Angela. I moved from NY to Buckeye AZ last August and still discovering the right timing to plant certain vegetables. Your videos and the calendar I have certainly helped me with the mistakes I experienced trying to grow a garden on my own here. Thank you so much for taking the time and sharing your knowledge, very much appreciated.
Thank you so much, Angela! I have a small gardening group that meets in my home, and we have watched many of your videos. We have bought your calendars as well. Actually I bought 2 because the dog ate my first one. 😀 At almost every meeting, we go over the calendar and talk about what we are going to plant that month.
I direct sowed painted serpent Armenian cucumbers today and will be starting my fall seeds indoors over the next few days. Thank you for this video. Your content is always super relevant, efficiently provided and very appreciated.
Still fairly new to gardening so knowing that I still have time so transplant peppers is a relief. I’ve been having to start over with germination in general as I struggle to keep seedlings alive or can’t seem to get them to grow/mature past seedling stage
the heat in yuma is hitting hard right now. my cherry tomato plants are super sad and all got early blight :( now im educating myself on prevention of diseases instead of trying to treat them after the fact. love the vid as always!
I love your indoor grow set up for the seedlings at 6:05! I use a Mars Hydro grow tent with a TS600 light but haven’t had much success with different varieties of seedlings. Do you have a list of the lights and the shelving you used to set up? I’d like to try using your method instead. Love watching your videos!
It's an all in one set up from Gardener's Supply. I love it and leave it up in my office year round. click.linksynergy.com/deeplink?id=dCEAZelUoHc&mid=982&murl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.gardeners.com%2Fbuy%2Fsucculents-and-seeds-bamboo-led-grow-lights%2F8598084.html
I'm always so grateful for your videos. You really get "growing in tough conditions." I'm in central California, and we're starting a pretty brutal heatwave right now. Do you have any tips for starting seeds outdoors for the fall garden? I'm not able to do it indoors.
I love your website and it is my 'go to' for gardening in Surprise. I am wondering where you buy the white shade cloth and what percent of shade it provides. I have an approx 20 x 30 feet of raised beds that are needing shading and would prefer to have the lighter color. I also want to thank your site for turning me on to Garden in a Minute Square watering grids and Arizona Worm Farm compost and raised bed mix.Biting the bullet and investing in them has made all the difference in my success as a new gardener! I LUV being out in it! My dream is a lush, colorful and productive garden like yours. Blessings to you!
My tomato plants have flowers and only one tomato is developing. Do I take them out and put new ones in? Or do I leave them and hope they produce. I start them from seed indoors and transplant them to a raised bed.
So glad to have found your channel - gardening in the desert has its challenges! Just wanted to confirm: next tomato 🍅 planting after July 15? Also, would it be better to summer over my tomato plants or start with new ones? Thanks so much for all your great advice!
Yes, if the humidity level is high and you provide extra protection, shade, etc. If tomatoes are healthy keep them going. If they are diseased or struggling, plant new ones.
Where do you find tomato and bell pepper transplants in July? I struck out at Whitfill and Summerwinds nurseries. Also are globe amaranth plants sold as transplants or do they need to be grown from seed?
Love your sharing of knowledge! In Tucson, I have mequite trees on most of my property. I tried growing in straw bales a few years back, and after 2 seasons, I found the mequite roots had invaded the bales. Any suggestions to minimize issues with mesquites, if I were to try raised beds along with my current container gardening? Thx!
I now have two year old tomato plants. Do you think it is worth keeping them alive? They were producing tomatoes that tasted pretty good before it got too hot here in the valley.
Can I plant radishes here in July? I read that they are good to co plant with Armenian cucumbers. These are amazing videos! I just moved into my first house after apartment living in Phoenix for the past 8 years and I’ve always wanted a garden
How does the extreme heat effect the number of days to harvest? We are between 107-119 for the next 2 weeks then we have a cool down to 103. It's typical to hover around 105 till sometime in October. I do not like to plant during this time. The heat stress is just too hard on plants. Even with a shade cloth the dry hot oven air is hard on tender seedlings.
Hello 💗 I just moved south of Buckeye (Rainbow Valley) and I want to order a chip drop. I've been looking around but I get both yes/no answers. My question is, Will a chip drop/mulch attract the scorpions to the garden? 🤔 Any advice, please? Thank you. **I haven't started anything. It's just a clean, empty slab of land.
It's my understanding that certain areas have them and other areas don't - a chip drop probably won't attract them to your garden if they aren't already there.
We have done chip drops for a year and a half now, and it has dramatically changed our backyard in a shorter time than anything else. We didn't have scorpions before and still don't. I will ask for no palm trees in our drop or trees with thorns and they have been great!
Thank you again Angela ! I'll be checking out your website. Have you always been into gardening, since you were a kid ? How in the world have you gained all this garden knowledge ?!? 😮 Thx in advance !
I'm so proud of you, Angela! You've provided a concentrated source of gardening information for long-time Valley residents and transplants. As a MG myself (2009), it is good to see you incorporate and add to that knowledge. If you can, look into teaching/presenting at library systems outside of Mesa: Sun City, Anthem (MCLD), Glendale, Peoria, Phoenix... I have both calendars and your book and will laminate the monthly to-do lists. Again, invaluable information. 🙌
Thank you so much. I have a series of classes scheduled this fall for the City of Scottsdale and teach regular classes in Phoenix at the Arizona Worm Farm, I've taught for the City of Chandler and I'll be teaching in August in Tempe. You can always see my upcoming classes by subscribing to my newsletter or on my website under classes growinginthegarden.com/gardening-classes/ I also teach monthly online classes www.patreon.com/growinginthegarden

Do you ever conduct tours, Angela? I am also in Mesa, and would love to see your garden in person.
I second this! We are in Queen Creek!
I have in the past. I'll give it some thought.
Thank you!! @@GrowingInTheGarden
That would be wonderful!
I would attend if one was planned!

It's ok to buy transplants as well. Starting seeds can be tricky!
Garden looks amazing!
I enjoy your channel, and it’s so helpful for my desert Texas graden, by the way thanks to you I planted Angelo it and I loveeeee it ❤
Ha! Magic Pumpkin!
Thanks for sharing
I definitely need to find some of those magic 10 day pumpkins!
Same.
Plant with 4 day corn.

Plant them a little bit deeper and wait a bit until temps cool if you can. It can be too hot for the young seedlings.
@@GrowingInTheGarden Thank you!

This is the shade cloth I use: amzn.to/4cymjpq 50% white - glad you like the grids and the soil. I love them both too.
would your calendar be good for Santa Barbara, California?
Similar, but you would have more options because you don't have the intense heat.
My tomato plants have flowers and only one tomato is developing. Do I take them out and put new ones in? Or do I leave them and hope they produce. I start them from seed indoors and transplant them to a raised bed.
They can have difficulty pollinating in extreme heat. Focus more on the microclimate / shade watering
The pollen isn't viable in high heat - if the plants are healthy, leave them in and plants will begin producing again as temps come down.
@@GrowingInTheGarden That was my question too - thx!!
May I suggest you try manually pollinating them just rub them together or use a q tip and gently move it around in each flower
I had less bees this year too 92058 Oceanside ca 😂

Arizona Worm Farm has some. Call first. You can plant globe amaranth from transplant - I believe the worm farm has them too.

Lay down landscape fabric hopefully it will help
Roots are tough - landscape fabric isn't enough unfortunately. I'd grow as far away from the mesquite trees as you can. You may need elevated beds.
The "LADY BUG" of the beautiful Arizona🎉
Amazing good luck 😊
I now have two year old tomato plants. Do you think it is worth keeping them alive? They were producing tomatoes that tasted pretty good before it got too hot here in the valley.
If they are happy and disease free when temps cool - keep them. If they are diseased or struggling, plant new ones.
Can I plant radishes here in July? I read that they are good to co plant with Armenian cucumbers. These are amazing videos! I just moved into my first house after apartment living in Phoenix for the past 8 years and I’ve always wanted a garden
I haven't planted radishes at that time, you can always try. Best of luck with your garden.

I'd wait and not plant much of anything during this heat wave. You're right it's stressful for plants.
Do you have any issues with Quail or bunnies eating your crops? I live in Sun City West and they both have killed my crops
I have a dog that chases out the quail and my area doesn't have bunnies. That can be so frustrating. Sorry!

Hello Angela! Question: I noticed your seedlings may be in the garage. Is your garage climate controlled?
They are inside in my office :)
Love your videos... what is that book you refer to?
Planting calendars - they are available on my website: growinginthegarden.bigcartel.com/category/planting-guides
Does this info apply to Kingman as well?
Yours would be similar but you may have more options.
Ok, great, thank you
Can I plant a piece of sweet potato.
I've had the best luck with starting from slips.
How do you prevent or deal with gnats? Every time I plant indoors I get gnats
