- We traveled to Catoctin Furnace near Thurmont to experience the Museum of the Iron Worker. This historic site tells the stories of iron workers, enslaved and free, who toiled at the Catoctin Furnace from the 1770s until 1903. The museum provides an opportunity to come face to face with history.

Thank you for this😭 I just for out through my DNA that my several of my ancestors were workers there at Catoctin. I WILL REMEMBER YOU!!! My 5 children WILL know about you ❤️🙏🏾
I matched 25 of them ❤️
I matched 25 as well...😊
Same here for me and my kids one being Egyptian royalty smh! 😢
@Apollo Mayaimi for me it was distances ( 1810 AD - Genetic Distance: 6.877 )
I matched 27 of them. Hello family to the others on here that matched them as well
This was the real Holocaust, I was connected to them through two matches from the L haplo group and saw the Pass family on the 1800 census whom I'm related to.
My family dna has revealed that many here were my ancestors. I am in tears and hope to visit soon. I am still researching my people.
Same here ❤ just researching more now
Each video o come across it seems I'm finding more descendents. I'm descended from 5 of these workers too. I'm London UK born and my parents are st Lucian. Interesting to say the least. I feel we would benefit from a FB group to see if we can find the connections
I am also a descendant of six of the African people who were forced to toil without compensation and ultimately die a brutal death at the Catoctin Furnace.
An fb group is a great idea
I am also from the West Indies and have about six descended
@@faithalexander8675 which part are you from
@@thehautebody I'm down if you're down
who else is here because their Dna results led them here
🙋🏼♀️
Mine too, Amy. I match four of them... two somewhat distantly, two of them very closely.
I am related to several of them (10) through DNA myself, my dad (19) and my maternal Aunt(20). I learned of this on My True Ancestry. This breaks my heart💔 that their identity is lost, I am obscessed with knowing more about them and giving them a name.
same!! wonder if those of us that took the test are related
I also uploaded my 23&Me DNA to My True Ancestry and found that I'm related to one of the enslaved workers. Immediately I researched, because so much ancestry on my dad's side of the family was lost due to enslavement.
Same here
My dads people were also enslaved there, I believe out of the 6 that escaped and was never found, would explain how my dad's grandparents and great grandparents ended up on the island of Carriacou, who's name is also Johnson....
A story that truly resonates thru history.
I'm descended from at least 3 of them.
Just found out I’m related to a few of these enslaved people with a genetic distance ranging between 2 and 3. I’d love to visit this place and have my dna studied for more discoveries
I match 5 of them
I match 6 of them so far. I need to know their names and where they came from 😢 their names have to be spoken ❤
I have Dna from 6 of them. So sad what they went through mann!!
Well found out I am related to 7 these people, DNA says, Hope there is a paper/census regarding this info that they can provide for these people, names and etc. I guess Baker and Johnson are the surnames. Also found out Royal DNA - These so called slaves have the yDNA of the Royal Clan Abernathy - Abernethy is a surname whose origins link to a Scottish clan that descends from Orm de Abernethy, a grandson of Gille Míchéil, Earl of Fife that presumably settled at Abernethy, Perth and Kinross. The name is of non-Gaelic Pictish origin, from a period when the Caledonian Welsh or Brytons controlled these lands.
you aint playin lol love it, thanks
I match them too. Not sure why but all my comments keep getting taken down 👎
Would you be down for co creating a FB group in regards to this.

Hello Tasha, we apologize. We do not know why your comments were removed. It was not intentional on our end. We thank you for re-posting them.

I have 25 DNA matches . How do I get in contact with these people that run this place?
You can reach out to them through their website, catoctinfurnace.org/.
Where are they from???? I can't find that.
I have a Genetic Distance: 7.433 with one of them. But my African DNA comes through Jamaica from West Africa, Slave coat. Nigeria,Togo Benin...
Are they sure they got the right ethnicities ? The Haplogroup is R1b1a1b1a1a2c1a1 That is a European Haplogroup. Not only that he seemed to have not only Moor / Moroccan middle-eastern blood but European DNA. I wish they talked about this a little more. I don't think the images are correct unless there were more bodies they dug up? I am really confused by this.
Some of them are e1b1a as well. The the mitochondrial haplogroups are mainly L3 & L2. My husband is R1b1a and his male line is black for as far back as we can trace. R1b1a is found in high frequencies in Central West Africa. It is explained as being the result of "back migration from Asia" during pre-historic times.
Ancient Europeans were dark... Btw
That is what ancient Europeans looked like..
I’m related to 6 of them. 4 males including the teenage male and 2 females. Wish I knew who they were.
Also im related to both of these two. At least I can put a face to them. But I would love to know their names and were exactly they come from ugh!!
Amazing what these slave went thru.
My people Hebrews will these dry bones live ? yes ! Deu 28;68

These people must be very important? Because why does the Smithsonian Museum has the bodies?
I match 6 of them. I have had my mom, brother, aunt and great tested as well. Me and moms genetic distance from the adult female is 9. (Top 99%) my brother and my great aunt s genetic distance from that same match is 10.
My DNA result says that I am related to some of those folks, sorry to hear about their experience.
