Without Dobby closing the barrier, Ron's wand is undamaged, and Lockhart successfully wipes Harry and Ron's minds, leaving Ginny to die and Diary Riddle to resurrect. Pretty grim, actually.

About the Quirell and Lockhart theory, Hagrid mentions "there was a nasty bit o' trouble with a hag, NEVER BEEN THE SAME SINCE. SCARED OF THE STUDENTS, SCARED OF HIS OWN SUBJECT -"
A stark change in behaviour, this could be a lead into this theory.

Snape and McGonagall scene - when Snape sees Harry, the look of relief on Snape's face is only there for a second... I really appreciated Alan Rickman's acting in this part. Once you realize the emotional implications in the book and you rewatch this part of the film, you pick up subtle nuances like this that makes watching the movies on repeat worth it.

"Harry has his mother's eyes." And the eyes are the doors to the soul, by which it is implied -- and I think this may be the author's intention -- that while Harry looks like James, and in many ways has James's skills (Quiditch, DADA, etc.), he has his mother's heart. He is kind, and considerate, and likes people like Hagrid and Luna. His personality is more like Lily's, who was friends with the poorly dressed boy from down the lane, and less like James, who found every opportunity to bully him.

I'd say Dobby isn't useless, just easily replaceable.
Ron doesn't HAVE to have his wand broken in the car crash, there're a myriad of ways he could accidentally break it.
Harry and Ron don't HAVE to miss the train, and Harry doesn't HAVE to be in the hospital wing from Dobby's bludger. He could overhear Pomfrey's conversation elsewhere, as this series is full of coincidental run-ins and eavesdropping into conversations.

Theory idea and if they want to talk about it in the Q and A. What if Harry hired Dobby after Chamber. Why does he have to go out into the world for several years looking for paying work when Harry (whose not really on a budget) can pay him to live with him at the Dursley’s, secretly of course, or have him stay at Hogwarts right off the bat? He could have helped look for Peter pettigrew, he could have helped he might have been able to follow crookshanks to find out he was working with Sirius at the time. Just spouting off things here, but think this could maybe be something.

Interesting Idea. Would tge ministry permit a house elf in a muggle household though?
If yes, harry wouldn't have gotten into trouble for underage magic anymore, since there is a known magic user on the premise.
It would also have severely altered the Dursleys behaviour again, since that got worse, after they found out Harry can't use magic.
It might had prevented the Aunt Marge Incident -> Harry wouldn't take the Knight bus -> no expeliarmus on stan shunpike -> no golden flames revealed to voldemort -> voldemort not seeking out the elder wand
It would change quite a bit on the main plot alone, not ro speak of all the side plots.

In one of the last episodes you asked how it is for people with another mother tongue than English. I am from Austria and so German is my first language. For my eleventh birthday I got the first book translated into german. So I read all the books in German except the last one (this one I only read in English). Then my English was good enough to read them. Later I reread all of the books in English. And now when I talk about them I can't remember the German words for the special words in the wizarding world, eg. snitch, bludgers, ... Some words were "translated" to German, others not. In the book that I got for my eleventh birthday Sirius' last name was translated to "Schwarz" (german for black), in the later books he was called Black without the translation. I needed a very long time to make the connection because of that. Even after the scene in the Three Broomsticks. 😅😅

I was just watching Chamber again and it struck me how the "multiple Voldemorts" problem would be solved. If the diary Tom Riddle got a living body for that piece of soul, the piece of soul you call "Voldemort Prime" would simply rejoin that body. Those pieces of soul would not be repaired, as he would not go through the process of genuine remorse to repair his fractured soul, he would just be in the state of 16-year-old body with a fractured soul just like the moment he murdered Myrtle. He would be able to either live with a fractured soul, or to create a new Horcrux whenever he wanted to. The only thing that would have caused a conflict would be if two separate pieces of soul managed to get inside living bodies at the same time, but that never happened.

I think that in the wizarding world it's been known for centturies, that the rightfull place of Gryffindor's sword it's in the headmaster's office. It dissapears from there, when a true Gryffindor needs it, and returns after it's used. It explains that Dumbledore hide it there and was sure it wouldn't dissapear somewhere else, when it's time for Snape to give it to Harry. So if you are a Gryffindor and you go to Dumbledore's office, and you need the sword in brave or desperate curcumstances, you would be able to pick it up and use it.

I keep shouting at the screen when you guys miss something very ovbious that you do not mention. In the chamber after the basilisk is blinded but still chasing Harry, Harry puts on the sorting hat and says "help me, help me". That is when the sword appears in the hat and hits Harry in the head. Why the head trauma I do not know, this is something for the Carlin Bros to ponder. This fulfills Dumbledore's statement that "at Hogwarts help will be given to those who ask for it." I saw this as I was reading the chapters along with the pod casts. BTW, I love the pod cast you give so much insight to the books.

You guys are mixing up movie lore and book lore when it comes to Tom Riddle. In the movie Tom speaks with Dumbledore. In the books Tom speaks with professor Dippet instead. Therefore, Dumbledore isn't seeing a parallel in the conversation with Harry when he lies to Dumbledore. I'm sure Dumbledore knows Harry is lying, but there is no relation for Dumbledore to a previous conversation with Tom.

'A son cruelly banished' could refer to Dumbledore being 'trapped' inside Godric's Hollow after his mother dies.
    'Despair of the daughter' Ariana.
'Return great avenger with wings from the water' Fawkes could come during a time of need for Dumbledore literally out of water.
I love the theory of phoenixes being past Dumbledore's who've died coming to aid the present ones, and I think Fawkes being Ariana holds more weight due to her relationship with Dumbledore.

As far as the prophecy is concerned, Mouldy Voldy comes to attack the Potters, Lily dies to save Harry thereby giving him the power the dark lord knows not. Mouldy marks him as his equal with the curse and then 'dies' half a second later due to the sacrificial love and meaning one died at the hand of the other. Well to the importance of the car I would like to propose a theory of mine, that it is actually Dumbledore, who is making the car drive inside of the forbidden forest. He could have heard Hagrid suggesting that they should follow the spiders and waited for them there like he did with the mirror in the philosopher’s stone. He might not want to approach them if not necessary and therefore use the car. For the arrival of Harry and Ron it might be possible that Snape was send by Dumbledore to have a look out for Harry and Ron as they were not in the train / at the feast. That fits with Snapes chair being already empty, when they arrive at the great hall. It would be therefore possible that Snape made the car drive into the forbidden forest from a distance to stop Harry and Ron from doing something with it and other students from seeing it.

I LOVE the idea that lockheart stoll travels with trolls from quirrel. One of my really big issues with Quirrel is the scene at Halloween when he faints at the stress of a troll. We are very aware that trolls are his speciality and most of the teachers would know this, especially dumbledore and probably those guarding the stone. So why is he so freaked out? I know its a diversion for him, but why did he think it would work? The teachers would expect him to deal with it. So maybe lockheart had just recently stollen his memory about trolls and he forgot how to deal with them? Not sure if memory charms could have a short term dazzling effect and then a long term forgetful effect.

Whenever it comes to Dumbledore‘s big plan, I think so much of it can be chalked up to him being such a skill the legilimens, like when he’s in Hagrid’s hut. I’m pretty sure he’s probably reading Ron and Harry’s minds, which allows him to know that they’re there and then he uses his power of deduction to figure out which corner they’re most likely in, hence why he can seemingly look at them even when they’re invisible. I would also imagine this is how he could figure out what Lucius was up to with the diary.

    • @simunjiii
      @simunjiii 7 месяцев назад

Well legilimency wouldn’t help Dumbledore because that requires eye contact. But he would well be able to read the room. Therefore noticing Hagrid making tea and serving cake. Many even hearing voices inside the hut. He could then deduce that it is probably Harry and Ron who are there and that they are using the cloak to hide.

So I keep commenting on the videos that there was something in wizarding world that explains why Dumbledore hired Lockhart. What I didn’t remember is how it kind of does fall in with his big plan. Here is the quote from wizarding world:
Albus Dumbledore’s plans, however, ran deep. He happened to have known two of the wizards for whose life’s work Gilderoy Lockhart had taken credit, and was one of the only people in the world who thought he knew what Lockhart was up to. Dumbledore was convinced that Lockhart needed only to be put back into an ordinary school setting to be revealed as a charlatan and a fraud. Professor McGonagall, who had never liked Lockhart, asked Dumbledore what he thought students would learn from such a vain, celebrity-hungry man. Dumbledore replied that ‘there is plenty to be learned even from a bad teacher: what not to do, how not to be’.
That last line is similar to what Ben and J have been saying about showing Harry not to let fame get to his head.

1:01:20 dumbledore has to give at least one fawks feather to ollivander before Tom goes to school. Dumbledore‘s fight with Grindelwald was in 45 which is the year Tom finishes at Hogwarts. The real question is how did Ollivander know that Voldemort’s real name was Tom Riddle? Because he says to Harry, he sold the brother of Harry’s wand to the guy who gave Harry his scar which everyone knows is Voldemort not Tom Riddle.

    • @UnfazedPhoenix
      @UnfazedPhoenix 7 месяцев назад

Olivander was talking about Voldemort at that moment. Also, Tom Riddle would have bought his wand from Olivander just like everyone else, so Olivander would have known either way.

@@UnfazedPhoenix there are two different events seemingly by two different people. Olivander sells a wand to Tom Riddle who’s wand it the brother to Harry’s wand. Then Voldy attacks Harry. How does Olivander connect those dots?

Wonder if it could have played out with Dobby at the Weasley's because possibly Arthur gets how to re-phrase questions to get info from Dobby? the broken wand might have occurred from some "stupid" stunt that a youngster might make at school, at a more appropriate time later in the story. it makes a different story, but could still work.

I was listening to goblet of fire and I realize something Frank Bryce is only awakened due to a pain in his leg so what if he never woke up, Nagini would’ve never been turned into a horcrux (I forgot which book Dumbledore confirms this in, but it is said that he ties the connection between the death of Frank Bryce and the sudden change in Nagini) meaning that Harry would never have seen the vision of Nagini biting Mr. Weasley which means Dumbledore never connects that both Harry and Voldemort have a link into each other’s minds. Meaning, as soon as Voldemort realizes this, he will have a much greater connection because Harry would not have been taking lessons against it, or Voldemort find out at all?

I think somewhere in the books it’s indicated that the Sword of Gryffindor resides in the headmaster’s office - which is to say - Gryffindor’s office. It’s there when Snape has to get it to Harry in Deathly Hollows. So I imagine that’s where it “lives” until needed and from there it travels around to present itself to Gryffindors in need.

    • @UnfazedPhoenix

I'm for a partial plan from Dumbledore. I think Dumbledore is okay with hiring Lockhart, for example, because
    A) anyone truly competent with the dark arts may recognize a pattern and realize the position is jinxed, and so wouldn't take the job unless they had a very good reason to, so he would be desperate to hire even a 2nd or even 3rd rate teacher.
    and...
    B) Dumbledore could use the jinx to his benefit to expose or remove people he dislikes. This would explain why he hired Lockhart or Umbridge, as a way to eliminate them without actually doing anything to them.
With everything else, Dumbledore has limited information too. His entire plan, likely, is to just keep Harry alive long enough for him to die at the "proper moment." Any big plan he does have would only start to get into motion around book 4.

Next video idea: What if Dobby never visited Harry?
Without some plot reworking, it looks like Harry either gets eaten by Aragog or gets his memory is wiped by Lockhart.
Of course, Harry and Ron only miss getting the info directly from Hagrid because Fudge comes.
And they could maybe thwart Lockhart another way. Would it have been a great setup and payoff? Not necessarily, but if they do, maybe Ron could use his wand legitimately the whole year and he is just able to thwart Lockhart himself, similar to how he helped with the troll. Then again, the cave in doesn't happen, so there might have to be a spell they learn that triggers an explosion or something, and that 'fixes the timeline'. This spell would be the setup and payoff learned earlier, like the Wingardium spell.

regarding the looks of the wands, I always thought that there is some kind of business that offers personalisation or that it is something the wizards and witches do themselves, because otherwise it would be weird that Voldemorts or even Lucius wands looked the way they do when they bought them. And in the movies the appearence of harrys wand also changes, from the boring looking stick to the thing with the handle made of bark. But recently I thought maybe its some type of selfactualization or adapting the wand does to better fit to their wielder. what do you think?

Do we have any information how the sword can be used in a duel? It can destroy magical objects and it cuts like a normal sword. Maybe it can block spells, because I don't know how someone would use a short-range sword as an offensive weapon against a wizard with long-range spells. It's also impractical if you can only use the sword or your wand at the same time, maybe it's small size makes handling both possible.

I have a suggestion for a potential Lockhart Victim. Bathilda Bagshot. We know she knew Dumbledore, he would have heard plenty of stories from her in the years he lived next to her in Godrics Hollow. She was introduced to James and Lilly by Dumbledore. Her memory went funny at some point. The reasoning given for her memory has always been her age but she is the only magical person we know who has memory issues without being affected by a memory charm.
