I think the coat of arms features all the six states of Australia: New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia.
Correct
Fascinating piece, thanks for sharing!
Regarding 4:19, in olden days, there was a profiteering scheme that was an alternative to clipping off the edge of silver coins. The chemical technique was to leach silver from silver coins as follows. Silver coins would be immersed in nitric acid which caused some of the silver to be dissolved into the nitric acid. Then the adulterated silver coins would be spent or deposited in the bank at face value although they would appear to be somewhat worn or thinner but still recognizable by their denomination. Then the dissolved silver nitrate in the nitric acid solution would be recovered by adding in some salt. The precipitated silver powder would settle to the bottom of the container. The silver powder would be melted down to form silver bullion which could be sold.
Regarding 2:25, the Coat of Arms shield on the reverse side of that test coin shows each of the six states of Australia described as follows. On the upper left of the shield is the state of New South Wales represented by the Cross of Saint George with lion and stars. On the upper middle of the shield is the state of Victoria represented by the Imperial State Crown and the Southern Cross. On the upper right of the shield is the state of Queensland represented by the Maltese Cross and Crown. On the lower left of the shield is the state of South Australia represented by the piping shrike bird also known as the White-backed Magpie. On the lower middle of the shield is the state of Western Australia represented by the black swan. On the lower right of the shield is the state of Tasmania represented by the red lion passant.
It is also not the "Royal Australian Mint Coat of Arms" it is just the regular Commonwealth of Australia Coat of Arms.
So interesting. Anyone know of a rough price for this beauty
The shield on the coin is taken from the Australian Coat of Arms. Which is held up by the Emu and Kangaroo
😎
Great review, didn't know it even existed, as the front of the coin is the coat of arms of the States of Australia. How many have the RAM done of test coins if you know?
Would be cool to see square coins 😂 yes like the specimen kookaburra . Actually that would be a cool video . I love all the old Australian coinage and notes .
Wow Matt super cool coin , excellent video 👍
Nice one - very interesting coin.
1:55 there is no such thing as the "Royal Australian Mint Coat of Arms", that is the Shield of the Coat of Arms of the Commonwealth of Australia. Which is used all throughout the Australian Government, and is used on the 50 cent coin. Each segment is represents a different Australian state.

Hi Matt great video again
Hi Matt, Any chance for doing vlog on the range 7 history of the 14 sided (tetradecagon) 50 cent Australian collector coinage. Cheers Mick McWilliam
First 😊 keep them coming
I'm assuming some were snavled up by mint employees and got out?
What would be the value of the coin... Or is it a round/ medallion as it has no face value?
How much did that coin sell for?
Wow, this is a cool coin! Some may even say, a COOL mint! ;)
I can't help but wonder how hard it must be for you to have the shop buy those sorts of coins rather than yourself when they come in
