- The Dumagats live in the heart of the Sierra Madre mountains in the Philippines. Just like men, women fish in the rivers, dive in the sea, and hunt wild animals. Maymayan is a legend in the forest: she’s the best huntress of the tribe. She and her daughter, Ema go through a long journey in the jungle, where Maymayan will teach Ema about traditional fishing and hunting techniques.

Telling the story from the first-person point of view really makes me feel like I was told a beautiful story of someone else's life. Thank you, Slice!
I'm a Filipino, and I found this documentary amazing!
Thank you, Slice! :)
No money, no shopping, they live in peace and tranquility. While we have more than everything, we are busy with hate and despair.
Ok u feel me nothing but God love an hunting
so true my friend. we may be living more comfortably with money and material things, yet a lot less contented and happy.
@@sundaysbest8023 Comfortable? What is comfortable? They are the ones that's comfortable. They sleep with no worry. They have everything they need. We live and pay for things we don't need.
We have lost ourselves living our lives to make the rich richer. Trying to be like them. The filthy rich are the most unhappy beings on this planet.
They more unhappy they are the worst they make life for those that want the look of success,
@@trenitahodge1028 There are 2 levels of comfort, material comfort and the abstract. I refer to comfort provided by money and the material. When you go to town, you ride on your beautiful car and reach your destination literally no sweat. When you wash your clothes, you just throw them in the washer and drier and its done When you need food, you just go to the grocer and you have literally everything you need to live. Whereas they, they have to walk miles, sometimes without shoes, to go to town; they have to use the same clothing again and again again until torn and totally soiled; and they have to grow or hunt their next meal to survive. I know because I have been there, I am not sure with you. That is the comfort I am referring to my friend. But it doesn't mean I disagree with you, because I can only agree with you, just on the other aspect of comfort.
@@sundaysbest8023 they don't know any other way. That's their secret.
I experience both way of life. Right now some where in the middle is just fine for me.
Beautiful story. Ema is a pretty girl. Ruben is a lucky man. Off they go.. Thank you SLICE for your amazing docs.
He looks old as hell 🤨
@@meatballsandwich5329 no. They look about the same age. Maybe you was looking at the wrong person
They spend most of their waking hours hunting and gathering whatever could be eaten. How about us? Just losing internet or wi-fi connection is like the end of the world to us!
We're pitiful, aren't we?
Speak for yourselves. Not everyone is like this.
Lol I don't give s shit I love technology and I want to use it, fuck off with your "their life is better cause they don't have technology and spend their whole life hunting so thats better" bullshit
I think Pancho is saying that we have to be thankful enough of what we have.
I would love to live like that for six months
I am addicted to slice, documentaries full of amazing contents
Definitely
Me too!
This documentary brings back memories that i could never forget, i could always go back to this life and i'll be happy as ever .i love these memories i have.
I'm from Philippines i wish that i have chance to see them in person
marami dito sa pilipinas. sila ang tunay na katutubo. sana maprotektahan sila ng gobyerno. asa lang sila sa kalikasan.
My respect to this tribe. They only take what they needed from mother earth. Leading a simple life. We on the other hand lead such a different life style, ours are always about money, power etc...... We want more but the more is never enough. My own life is simple but like them. Obviously i go to work, am semi retired. I grow my own vegetables and don't eat meat. It is something just so wonderful growing your own veg and it taste so much better. could I live like them? No, I cannot. stay safe all as the virus is still here.
I love the different indigenous from the Philippines and hopefully the government will continue protecting them. There are almost 200 indigenous mostly in the south. Corruptions are killing their very survivals.
Beautiful! Just absolutely beautiful. You guys do such a terrific job. It is so special to me to bring these beautiful people and their lives into my heart and my life.
Hoping for a part two with the story of the two young couples...
Same
Thank you Slice for continuing and enhancing the great work originally begun by National Geographic in 1868. This mini- documentary is absolutely beautiful and reminiscent of what NG once was.
Sadly, as with many old institutions recently, NG has strayed beyond simply and purely presenting the natural aspects of world cultures and lands. May Slice never wander from simple observation into allowing outside interests dictate its mission of presenting the world as it is, not what someone wants it to be.
Im currently obsessed with this channel,im surprised you even made a documentary about my country, you are amazing....
Me too. I was surprised i had opened a documentary that talks about fellow Filipinos.
Are they Filipinos???
@@korro5870 yes😁

I AM FROM SIBUYAN ISLAND WHERE BOTH OF MY PARENTS CAME FROM. THERE IS A PLACE THERE CALLED LAYAG WHERE A TRIBE MANGYANS SETTLED THEY ARE CALLED AETAS ALSO. THEY ARE SO FRIENDLY WITH MY MOTHER. VERY INDUSTRIOUS PEOPLE. THEY PLANT DIFFERENT TYPES OF VEGETABLES. 4PS WAS INTRODUCED TO THEM AND MOST OF THEM BECAME LAZY. NOW SOME OF THEM LIVE ON THE LOWLANDS NOW.
They're just like my ancestors,The Bushman of South Africa.
One day ill find my way back to simplicity and quietly enjoy the sound of nature and her tune.
To say "One day" is the proof that you dont reach it...do it NOW 💪
Start now. Little by title. I am in my seventies, I started ten years ago after battling cancer. I have been healthy and happy ever since.
Could not get enough of it...make as long as 3hrs
Loving this, the women are strong. Thank you for sharing. 💐❤️❤️
Am sad to see the sadness in the mother's eyes as she slowly turned and headed back to the forest after bidding her daughter farewell.
