Ari Aster is amazing. I’m so glad he pursued his passion and provides all of us with his work. If you haven’t watched all of his shorts and feature length films. Go watch them now. You won’t be sorry
Totally! Since you've posted this, Alan has done more work. He also directed one of Conner O'Malley's 'van life' videos. It was refreshing to see this comment. I just finished watching Live Forever As You Are Now, and it actually drove me to dig into Ari and watch the O.G. Beau. Weird coincidence.
anyone else see the similarities with Ari Aster's later work Hereditary??? The abrupt car accident, the reference to the treehouse and to the guy burning alive?
Fucking amazing. The way Ari makes you love him at first, then think he's a nut, then hate him and after showing you all of the horrible shit hes doing, he makes you feel bad for him all over again. This is a tactic he would go on to use to great effect in midsommar. Ari will truly go down as one of the greatest directors of all time. There's been plenty of Kubrick-likes but Ari? Hell, I think he might be better.
After watching his movies and short films, this is probably his best and funniest, most realistic short film. Midsommar was just an amazing trip and I can't wait to watch it again on shrooms, but Hereditary was amazing and a creepy WTF ride. As long as this guy keeps doing horror/comedy, I'll be there.
I know it’s been a year, but did you ever watch Midsommar on magic mushrooms? If you did what was it like!! I’d love to know your thoughts/feelings about the film in that state of mind
@@teiahwallace6665 Not yet! I keep meaning to! It's definitely meant for that haha. I do watch the new Dune while on mushrooms a lot though and wow that movie was really made for it. It looks and feels way different.
And that 'golden hour' lighting with the ducks. I bet the timing was tricky there. Really nice sledgehammer hit of realism to explain how things come to be.
Can’t wait to see this guy in Disappointment Blvd, even if it’s just for a minute or two, I’m overly excited for his return. Brilliant delivery on both his and Ari’s end in this short.
Love this. Ari is a king. Even though this exists totally separately, I can't help but think of George Carlin (my fav). Beautiful film and I love the weight that the industrial tunes give the core - feels like it achieves more. If only we could hear the monologues of the unlucky. That's all it is - just the luck of the draw. Layoffs, born with alcoholism, had a bump to the head playing football in Jr. High. Then you're knocked out of orbit and everybody's scared of you in the same way that people are scared of suicide, or having babies with down syndrome. And that's that - and so it goes, and so it goes. The scene where he is withdrawing on the floor is heartbreaking, but easy to miss due to that breakneck dialogue - sound and vision clash in a neat way. Kind of drives the point home. Seeing homeless people while listening to Joe Rogan on your airpods. It doesn't register. I rewatched it on mute at .75 speed :) 0:02:52 made me laugh out loud, alone, for the first time in at least 7 days. Such a great writer, and I have a suspicion that he was the hoodie guy who didn't give change. 0:05:38 Juxtapo-motherfucking-vision Lighting at 0:06:53 is bonkers perfect.
_I was also married to a wife. A beautiful one in a dress. She smelled like my mother. She kissed me whenever I wanted. And she cried when I was sad._ 😭😭😭😂
A tree house and parents dying are mentioned by this character. In midsommar days parents died in their house. In hereditary the tree house is where the final scene takes place when Paimon Is crowned king after fully possessing alex wolfes character. 5his is the first time I've seen this short film and I noticed this immediately I can't be the only person who has noticed this by now am I?
dude... "the nature of horror is when the home becomes unhomelike". That's like Ari Aster's whole thing. Of course it's going to be represented in all his works. No one else besides you thought it was an astounding enough observation to write a comment about.
(Spoilers) it’s his daughter ?? I’m so confused lol how does he know that ?? Is he hooking up with random people ??? Why did she give him money ? .. can someone explain?
There was a pause between them but I took it as “I have dreams that would make you cry. Big colorful dreams where...... that’s my daughter”. The main is mentally ill with what we might assume to be schizophrenia (Im not a psychologist so I could be wrong on that) and he’s mental illness is untreated which is why he is living on the streets but at the end of the day he is still a human being just like any one of us and he still feels the same things as we all do and he dreams for a better life in which he could have a family and he could have a kind child. The girl was likely just some random passerby with her family who went and gave money to some homeless man but he used her as an example of what he wishes he could have
@@daniellaguna7900 Yup, the little girl reminds him of his Wife. Who showed affection and love to him unconditionally. Just like the little girl giving him the dollar. He relates generosity to family and love
