I love New Order. Bizarre Love Triangle and True Faith are two of my all-time favourite songs. Here's a few more recommendations....... World (The Price Of Love), Restless, Ruined In A Day, Temptation, Regret and Here To Stay
The 12" version of The Perfect Kiss is my favorite New Order song. I love the slow build and the laying of all the sounds. As for the videos being confusing.... it's been almost 40 years and we still don't know what's going on in half of these videos. LOL! I just take it as entertainment value and don't go too deep. As for other New Order songs to check out, I recommend: Regret, Confusion, Sub-culture & Thieves Like Us.
this is what i miss about 80s music, they had extended mixes just to showcase the layers of sound. once in a while there are songs today i like that i wish had 12" versions.
In the perfect kiss at 15:31 there appears in the background a man shrouded in light. I have always taken that to be Ian Curtis, the fallen leader from the first incarnation of this group, Joy Division.❤
Yes, that was frog :D The Perfect Kiss video was directed by Jonathan Demme, who later directed The Silence Of The Lambs. You're not hearing the single version there, it's a live performance in the studio. He focussed on their hands a lot because he felt that that was where the magic was!
"Playing with my pleasure zone" means exactly what it sounds like. See also Cyndi Lauper's "She Bop", which features a similar line, and is going for the same meaning.
So glad to see Perfect Kiss finally covered ;) and the Arthur Baker era stuff which took them from Goth/UK Indie to Dance - they then went on to define the UK Acid House culture with the album 'Technique'. I think you'd like it, i love it, but as an old skool, 80s goth that'll be the period for me. I saw them play Wembley in London and they did their own support act as Joy Division ;)
I'm so glad you played these , as I'm led in bed with 2 broken legs after falling off the coach after a United AWAY game so I'm bedbound but that's by the by the thing is it reminds me of growing up in The Manchester area real casuals music not to be forgotten or displaced..
Great to hear a reactor play New Order songs that are not Blue Monday. I only knew the 12" versions of these songs through their 'Substance' album, and 'Shellshock' is even better in that form. Also, apart from 'True Faith' which is the same, the other two songs have completely different mixes. These four songs definitely take me back to late 1987 and working nights, but playing New Order before a 10 hour shift. Good stuff 😉
They refused to mime in their early videos so the record company had to use concert footage and cut in whatever else sort of worked, and it was probably done on a tight budget as it was an indie label
Bryson you're knocking it out of the park with your choices lately!!! Totally loving your journey. My first exposure to new order was circa 1988 and taking "substance" out of the library... on vinyl! So true faith and bizarre love triangle are definitely two of my faves. Others you might love: ceremony, regret, age of consent, fine time. They each have a completely different vibe.
Greetings from England, oh that's so good, you've put a big smile on my face. The lady with the long hair you spotted behind the glass towards the end of Perfect Kiss who spooked you is actually a man - he was well known back in the 1980s as a roadie for New Order + known as Slim ( he most certainly was not ). Thank you for that I'm still smiling. Ps, Ha ha l see you quickly spotted that but your initial reaction was priceless.
Bizarre Love Triangle and Shellshock are 2 of my favourite New Order tracks so good choosing! Their most recent single, Be A Rebel, is truly excellent as well.
True Faith is my favorite, more than 30 years old but still a banger, loved it immediately at the time and prefer it over the more popular Blue Monday! The Fine Young Cannibals have a sort of similar video clip for 'She drives me crazy' if you 've ever seen that one 😉👍
Great to see you return to New Order, sad to see you missed ”Crystal” one of their later (and better) tracks. The video is funny though they hired another band to act in that music video.
‘The Perfect Kiss’ is a very ironic song. It talks about some very dark ‘Joy Division’ like subject matter, but does it all with that New Order Dance Poppy twist! That is New Order’s style. Deeply lyrical cake with a whipped cream pop topping.
Yeessssss, LOVE New Order! Something about their sound has always touched my soul in a deep way. And True Faith is definitely one of their masterpieces! The other 3 songs are great too, but nowhere near my favorites. My TOP fave New Order songs (and also some of my all-time fave songs period): Ceremony, Age of Consent, Temptation, Thieves Like Us and Crystal (as well as True Faith). If you ever revisit the band, PLEASE give these songs a listen! I love all of the elements of their sound (the vocals, the synth work, the driving beats, the lyrics) BUT the thing that is the most heavenly to me is their iconic guitar sound. My favorite songs I listed definitely showcase that guitar sound more. Also just FYI: Perfect Kiss was a live performance :)
@@PancakeMarshmallowDude Please react to Gabriel Henrique . He is a Brazilian singer who is very successful on react channels. I suggest the songs Ain't nobody cover Jessie J, Stand up cover Cynthia Erivo, Lead the way cover Mariah Carey and I want to know what love is Mariah Carey cover singing in his car. This last one he did singing in the car in response to haters who say he only works in the studio so he got in the car turned on his cell phone and recorded it without any editing. He has the most amazing voice and you will love it. You will be thrilled and like it a lot. He is our golden boy here in Brazil. Thank you very much.
My favourite group! Great! All 4 of those songs are much much better in their full length edits, espeically the 12" remix of Bizarre Love Triangle. I recommend Round & Round, World, World in Motion and Touched by the Hand of God next.
Those are all such great songs. That video for The Perfect Kiss was actually performed live in the studio. The band members were very elusive in their videos. The Perfect Kiss is one of the few that is solely them.
They are indeed New Order - Perfect Kiss will always be a favorite of mine even though I´m a huge fan of their earlier stuff. Seen them live several times... always exciting to see which mood they´re in because it will determine the quality, especially Peter Hook
New Order was a dance club staple in the 80s and still sounds great ! actually that version was cut VERY short. Shellshock is actually most longer, at least on the album.
"Bizarre Love Triangle" was my introduction to New Order. Way back in 1987, the Fox Network was new and had just started airing shows like "Married With Children" and "21 Jump Street". That summer, they aired this " news special" featuring tabloid journalist Geraldo Rivera, about organized crime in the U.S. In the background of one scene, this insanely catchy song was playing , and my older brother and I just had to find out the name of the song. We finally found out , and my bro went to our local Sam Goody and bought the 12" single of "Bizarre Love Triangle" on vinyl. We were both obsessed, and he would soon be back to buy "Substance" , a New Order compilation album. Good times, and such a great discovery.
Oh man this is great, if you ever react to them again i suggest you watch their live performance in glasgow of "Temptation", it's one of those magic concerts were the entire stadium is singing alone, true magic, and that bass... that freaking bass...
Beautiful band full of beautiful people. There's a really cool documentary (I think on Showtime?). A bunch of high school synth players were selected to tour and play the synths in an artist's designed 2 story setting along with the band. Really neat to see these kids all excited at the opportunity to be a part of it and see the final art installation/concert. In case you ever need something to do one evening, it's worth the watch. Oh, they have a female bass player, btw (the woman in the videos).
Easily my favorite band of all time. They were such Trail Blazers, coming from such a legendary project that was Joy Division and managing to make something entirely new and unheard for its time. Still holds up today as an amazing synth pop, dance rock, acid house group.
Haha 80s videos were crazy and fun. But they rarely made sense . It was obviously an experimental time when musicians played with new techniques. Nevertheless the music was great IMO. And I agree „True Faith“ is pretty catchy and stucks in your head for the next hours. The bass hits you hard. AFAIR it was used in a tv series.
Still love coming back and seeing you're reaction to this set of videos. You should check out the version of Perfect Kiss that Peter Hook, the bassist on this song, released with his band The Light. He really goes off on the bass in their version.
That jam session only shortened was in so many opening of programs and stuff on TV in the 80s and as a kid I did not know dark bkg of what it was about. I think this song as most of their stuff is about Ian Curtis. The whole New Order was just one big group therapy. If you want to have more context and have time, I recommend a 2007 documentary about Joy Division.
Before they became New Order they were called Joy Division. Created in 1978, they were a Punk band. Their leader singer passed away and they regrouped as New Order. They have been one of my many favorite bands, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Sioux and the Banshees, the list goes on. Thank for showing them again and experiencing them with open eyes.😁😁
I think Shellshock is an edited version. It does sound like a last-minute decision. The full 12" version is on a complication album called Substance. I think you'd prefer it if you like the song.
Love BLT - it transports me to a club where I’m dancing the night away and my crush has unknowingly walked in and is staring at me from across the room falling in love. New Order’s “Bizarre Love Triangle ‘94” is a great version to check out! True Faith is one of my faves.
15:33 The guy standing in the door is a Hommage to Ian Curtis, Singer of Joy Division. After his death, the remaining members of Joy Division decided to stay together, but not under that name. So they gave themselves a „New Order“…
One band you should check out is Talk Talk, they had big hits like "Such a shame" and "It's my life" but then they did a full 180 into long, synth/classical/jazz tracks which were really fascinating...
OMG yes. Talk Talk is a band that is criminally underrated, and well worth a listen. I would recommend starting with "It's My LIfe", and if you do a 4-cluster afterwards, "Give It Up", "Life's What You Make It", "Such a Shame", and the live (in Montreux) version of "Tomorrow Started". Mark Hollis's voice is something that must be heard and experienced.
Great choices Bryson. True Faith, Bizarre Love Triangle and SHellshock are some of their best. True Faith is about drugs/addiction, in my opinion. Would love to see you do Regret sometime. :)
It's funny. I see it in the opposite way of you: To me the video of True Faith lifts the song up to another level. It makes a fantastic song into a piece of art. I just love this video.
''True Faith' has been my favorite song of all time since it came out. Still gives me chills. You may wanna check out their original band Joy Division.
Great reactions! New Order ruled the dance floor in the alternative/new wave dance clubs. As noted below, if you like these songs I'd suggest checking out the extended remixes, they are all spectacular. Want more? I'd suggest: 1963 (the remix, the video isn't that good), Thieves Like Us, Crystal, Touched By the Hand of God, State of the Nation, Subculture, I could go on and on. Bernard Sumner, (the singer), Johnny Marr (of the Smiths) and Neil Tennant (of the Pet Shop Boys) got together and recorded under the band name Electronic. They put out three albums. Very good stuff. I'd recommend the songs Idiot Country, Get the Message and Getting Away With It. Again, great stuff!
You've done a lot of video collections now of great artists most of which I adore. Well done you mate. I would like to suggest a David Bowie collection, as he has still eluded this channel. Bowie has one of the largest collections of music videos out there covering more genres and topics than almost any other artist. Glam rock, hard rock, progressive, pop, funk, soul, new wave, metal, techno, electronica, soundtracks etc the guy was a genius.
Neworderstory is great, like a 50/50 mix of a straight documentary and the style and daftness of their own vibe. Also worth watching is their episode of Play At Home, a 1983 Channel 4 series where bands made their own documentaries themselves, that one's mostly the daftness but it's great fun!
I've been watching yer vids from ireland and i can tell you seem to like electric synth 80's. I dare ye to listen to Eurythmics Savage album. Every song has a video. I honestly think you'll like it.
New order are one of the most influential bands ever..The video perfect kiss was directed by the man that went on to do siilimce of the lambs..Peter hook is a bass legend..on a whole new order did things different and did not like to be in videos, give interviews ,have singles on albums or even the name on the cover.
I hope you'll do a series of " 4-packs " like you did with Depeche Mode add them and The Cure and you'll basically cover the greatest British English Cold/synth from the 80's onwards ! Then you'll be able to go to London and be called SIR PancakeMarshmallow, Knight of 80's Excellence :) !
If you haven't already, I suggest listening to the album 'Substance' as most of the songs are different then the video versions. The production and parts are amazing! Beyond that album, which I played and played... I also love 'Ceremony', 'Temptation', 'Regret' and 'Round & Round'. Have been really enjoying our reviews! Take care.
If you loved Depeche Mode and Erasure and Pet Shop Boys (which I know you did), there's no way you weren't going to love New Order. I bought their 1994 "Best Of" CD and wore it right out. For your next batch of NO songs, may I recommend "World in Motion" (it has a soccer theme!), "Vanishing Point" (mesmerizing), "Regret", and "Round & Round". Absoultely amazing group. Bernard Sumner has a totally recognizable, unique voice, and Peter Hook is easily one of the Top 10 bassists of all time. You should also check out a supergroup called Electronic that included members of New Order, Pet Shop Boys, and The Smiths (another band you should also check out on their own).
I don’t care if what I say gets me dated - I was part of the pre Napster generation which meant “the struggle is TRULY real.” Unless you have access to a cool vinyl collection, or hookups to awesome bootlegs, internet broadband, et cetera… Your ears will never know the pleasure of knowing these tracks or bands ever existed! I’m just glad you kids are now discovering these tunes.
Probably could have mixed it up a bit as they were all in the same era… Round & Round, Regret & Crystal maybe… then again you didn’t choose them mind 😊
I can't honestly say that I was a huge New Order fan, but True Faith remains one of my favourite songs of the 1980's. Btw, just as a one off, why not try a song called Tilted by Christine and the Queens. The whole performance and dance routine is brilliant, especially if you're allowed to see the version from the Later with Jools Holland show from the BBC
I freaking LOVE NO. Since the very beginning. Thank you. NOW. You must do: Temptation, Age of Consent, Your Silent Face, Crystal, Everything's Gone Green, Ceremony (the bridge song from Joy Division to NO), Regret, Fine Time, Waiting For the Siren's Call, Krafty, 60 Miles an Hour, Tutti Frutti, People on the High Line, Stray Dog, Superheated. TRUST ME.
I'm sure several people already said this but if you ever buy only one more CD for the rest of your life I suggest you buy the double CD set from new order called substance... I've heard most of the versions of the songs and the ones on substance are the best versions of all their tunes in my humble opinion...
It worth noting that this version of the perfect kiss was recorded live as they filmed the video - in 1 take.
I love New Order. Bizarre Love Triangle and True Faith are two of my all-time favourite songs. Here's a few more recommendations....... World (The Price Of Love), Restless, Ruined In A Day, Temptation, Regret and Here To Stay
Peter Hook still uses that exact bass to play Perfect Kiss .
The 12" version of The Perfect Kiss is my favorite New Order song. I love the slow build and the laying of all the sounds. Bizzare Love Triangle - the soundtrack to my youth in the 80s… jumping around like a mad man / boy at parties
"Playing with my pleasure zone" means exactly what it sounds like. See also Cyndi Lauper's "She Bop", which features a similar line, and is going for the same meaning.
I was born in Manchester in 1973. Synths with a Hooky Riff is my Mozart...................
🤣🤣🤣yes the videos back then…but ahhhh the music stands the test of time 💛
And yes that’s really them in the iconic “Perfect Kiss” video…
So glad to see Perfect Kiss finally covered ;) and the Arthur Baker era stuff which took them from Goth/UK Indie to Dance - they then went on to define the UK Acid House culture with the album 'Technique'. 17:36 that song came from that infamous icepick video that shocked a lot of people and don’t watch it
I was seriously hoping Regret would’ve been in the mix.
I'm so glad you played these , as I'm led in bed with 2 broken legs after falling off the coach after a United AWAY game so I'm bedbound but that's by the by the thing is it reminds me of growing up in The Manchester area real casuals music not to be forgotten or displaced..

"Tonight I should have stayed at home, playing in my pleasure zone"
Confusion is a great video. Lovely early 80s New York City disco footage
Also World in Motion, their England football anthem, which was the best selling New Order song ever
They refused to mime in their early videos so the record company had to use concert footage and cut in whatever else sort of worked, and it was probably done on a tight budget as it was an indie label
Shellshock and Crystal is min fav after Blue Monday and True Faith. Cool video!
I loved New Order back in the 1980's. The 12" inch single of "Bizarre Love Triangle" was
fantastic. Played it all the time in 1987.
Oh this great. Love new order. They have a great video for touched by the hand of God. Thanks pancake marshmallow dude😀
Thanks for watching! 😊
Great band very experimental sounds depeche mode also quite similar with sounds alike great era great music 👍
Bryson you're knocking it out of the park with your choices lately!!! Totally loving your journey. My first exposure to new order was circa 1988 and taking "substance" out of the library... on vinyl! So true faith and bizarre love triangle are definitely two of my faves.

Also the video where The Killers got their name from...
One of my all time fave bands. I’ve seen them a dozen times over the years. My first concert was in 1989 and i have tickets to see them this October!
‘The Perfect Kiss’ is a very ironic song. It talks about some very dark ‘Joy Division’ like subject matter, but does it all with that New Order Dance Poppy twist! That is New Order’s style. Deeply lyrical cake with a whipped cream pop topping.

Love the Cure! One of my favs from the 80’s
I think Shellshock is an edited version. It does sound like a last-minute decision. The full 12" version is on a complication album called Substance. I think you'd prefer it if you like the song.
Vanishing Point, Regret, Dreams Never End, World in Motion, and 1963 are a few others to check out

Ohhh, True Faith, what a tune!! And the video is pure 'po-mo' - post-modern.
The new a-ha single is out, and video , I think you will need tissues !
There is zero context for "Pleasure Zone". I had the same reaction to that line 🤣
Great choices Bryson. True Faith, Bizarre Love Triangle and SHellshock are some of their best.
True Faith is about drugs/addiction, in my opinion. Would love to see you do Regret sometime. :)
Thanks!!
🙌 yes! Let’s do The Cure or some Depeche Mode ☺️
I've already done a lot of videos from both Depeche Mode and The Cure. You can find them on the channel as well! 😊

As I recall, "True Faith" won the Brit award for best music video that year. 1987, I guess.
New Order are brilliant, and you saved the best for last.

@@oneironaut420 the movie documentary by Grant Gee? Yeah, I forgot about that. I saw that at the cinema!
@@scatterkeir yes that was a pretty good summary of the band’s history
If you love a slow build try Thieves Like Us 😉
Everyone is missing out there most upbeat, but sad lyrical songs, Age of Consent, which has to be played loud af' 😎😉🥰
Great reaction 🤍
Thank you!
u have the best taste here.
I've been watching yer vids from ireland and i can tell you seem to like electric synth 80's. I dare ye to listen to Eurythmics Savage album. Every song has a video. I honestly think you'll like it.
true faith is timeless like fr
New order are one of the most influential bands ever..The video perfect kiss was directed by the man that went on to do siilimce of the lambs..Peter hook is a bass legend..on a whole new order did things different and did not like to be in videos, give interviews ,have singles on albums or even the name on the cover.
Such a cool song
I hope you'll do a series of " 4-packs " like you did with Depeche Mode add them and The Cure and you'll basically cover the greatest British English Cold/synth from the 80's onwards ! Then you'll be able to go to London and be called SIR PancakeMarshmallow, Knight of 80's Excellence :) !
Oh, what did you play in New Order? I played the frog.
Take care.
Thank you!
I don’t care if what I say gets me dated -
I was part of the pre Napster generation which meant “the struggle is TRULY real.”
Unless you have access to a cool vinyl collection, or hookups to awesome bootlegs, internet broadband, et cetera…
Your ears will never know the pleasure of knowing these tracks or bands ever existed!
Hookeys basslines in all of these songs are amazing
As a Gen Xer, I approve of your video!
TRUST ME.
Shell Shock my fav...
New Order: working class at its best.
I'm sure several people already said this but if you ever buy only one more CD for the rest of your life I suggest you buy the double CD set from new order called substance... I've heard most of the versions of the songs and the ones on substance are the best versions of all their tunes in my humble opinion...
speaking of confusion, the vid for that song is great too, so is What's the price of love, Ruined in a day a bit low tempo though.
In all seriousness NO is a great band, always threading the new wave/synth/pop rock string and ALWAYS surprising !
I love New Order but never try to analyze the lyrics lol...
Ultimate 80s
Perfect Kiss.. more like Perfect Song...
you need to expand your album collection with NO
Me gustan más las versiones de Substance, son más pulidas.
Joy division Best 👌
