I use a lefty putter that is over 100 years old. I know it is a putter because in has, "Putter", inscribed on the base. I still use it as I am no better with any other putter and my grandfather and father owned it.
I found a Scotty at a golf course that the pro was selling for $100. I think it will be in my bag for a long time, as it has been in there 3 years already. It's an old 07 detour but it works great for me. I have odysseys I found at yard sale, TaylorMade white hot, a spider, the Scotty was worth it, if you find one used at a good price of course. $900 of course not that's insane lol
The Archer doesn't blame the Arrow! People are realizing close to $1,000 is a crazy price for a putter, and unless you brag about it and make putts no one cares about Scottie
Scottys have basically become the Jordans of putters. Everyone really went crazy and prices went way up. Now there are so many just sitting and the prices are still crazy high.
Hey John and Ashley! Big fan from Canada here. Would you guys cosider shipping your whatnot sales to Canada in the future? I feel like im missing out lol
Lefty golfer here! Rocking a 1999 fit with Oversized Burner irons and 3/5w, Cleveland wedges, and a 1998 Scotty Teryllium Newport. They also hear me coming from the tee since I'm hitting a Cleveland HiBore.
Markets for everything ebb and flow; you extensively pointed out that there hasn’t been much change in the style and even you would choose an old school Scotty. Love watching y’all
You are answering your own question the more you talk about the Scotty’s. People are starting to finally realize that it’s not the equipment it’s the person swinging it. What does a $900 putter do that a $100 doesn’t do? Nothing….drivers are pushing $700 now, why? They slice or hook just as much as a $300 driver. The whole golf business is getting overpriced, from greens fees to putters to drivers to sets, why? Because they will keep raising prices as long as we keep paying them
Back in the day they were a notch above the others. I was a high school golfer when the tei2 and oil can putters came out. Then the pro platinum series changed the game. After that, the industry really caught up. Custom wise there are some cool putters, but their tour issue stuff is way more expensive than most.
Our Scotty Cameron story from this christmas - my wife had a SC Super Select Fastback from facebook market since the beginning, she loved it, though the milling on the face feels a little bit faded. This christmas I decided to get her the same thing but a store-new, 2022 version, and got her older putter shortened (she plays a 35'' as a weird short armlock), and at first she was excited, but after few weeks, she is no longer so sure... I personally just switched from SC Phantom to LAB, but in my case, I just got bored of the same old thing, and I tend to switch for something more interesting. I'm not good enough of a player to notice some radical differences, but on the longer putts I tend to get noticeably closer now. I think they just need to switch up, like with Apple and iphones - new colors will get boring after a while.
More tech packed putters in the marketplace for SC to compete with. Obviously the L.A.B. putters, but also the Odyssey's Sq-2-Sq offerings. Have even been seeing more of the 3D printed Cobra putters. Then the great value putters like Cleveland's HB Soft line. Thanks for another great video ... and Happy New Year!!
the price of XXIO is crazy - it's a brand that you never hear about or see, well not in UK anyway. I would have assumed it was a budget driver, but clearly not
You pretty much answered your own question… you can buy the Ping original or the other companies they modeled their putter designs off of… I assume for most golfers the putter is the one club most keep as they tinker with irons… I have had my Oddessey Oworks 7s Red since it came out and I thought I paid around $240 and thought I was mental for doing it haha nice hoodie too…
I just can’t justify paying big money for putters. Because of your inspiration I’m thoroughly enjoying my spalding tp mills #2 that I got for $3 at goodwill.
Every Scotty I pick up feels balanced wrong. I bbn pick up a Ping PLD 2D and just about make everything. Then I mess my pants its so good. Scottys for the general public blow.
Ever since like the champions choice the special releases haven’t been coveted as much. This is from someone that used to buy them on release and flip them. Only circle Ts can get value selling
It just feels like all the limited edition putters since then have been recolors. No special materials, no cool designs for the most part. Just twice the price for a new paint job.
You have to keep in mid that nowadays a 7 iron in one brand may have longer shaft length and the lofts are all over the place so distance means little.
my local shop (Canadian) had a new scotty for $1299.... how many of these do they realistically intend on selling??? scotty lost the plot.. I hope they go under
Hi John, don't take a retail launch monitor distance as gospel, the big stores hike up the altitude reading so it looks like you are hitting it miles to influence you in buying the club. Its the oldest trick in the book.
I got a Qi10 MAX 3 wood that was a fitting club so it has the adjustable hosel... I put a heavier Gen 4 HZRDUS Black shaft in it and lofted it down to 14.5... It is the easiest 3 wood I've ever hit!
LAB has changed the game with putters. RUclips golfers are all gaming them and that is driving LAB sales. Plus they are great putters!! Great video and always love your content.
If the “limited release” putters are selling on eBay above MSRP then the demand outweighs the supply. My theory is they are just making more of the “limited release” putters and now supply is outweighing demand.
I think Jon nailed it. L.A.B. Golf came out with compelling technology behind their putters. Scotty Cameron putters now seem to be variations on the same theme. Maybe with Austie Rollinson coming on board there might be some design changes. But it could simply be instead of Ping Anser design elements, they will have Odyssey design elements.
I just got fitted for an AI one Milled from Odyssey, and I definitely prefer the look and feel of that over these all day any day. It's also funny how the new 2025 putters Cameron decided to go with the milled insert as well... Plus, you cant get an oversize grip from Scotty Cameron factory, you gotta get it done yourself
Hi guys from uk. I like the stacked golf top your wearing Jon. I will be in Orlando in 10 days time. You never know I may see you both with a bit of luck and a good wind. Minus 4c here at the moment but still had a round earlier today.
Scotty Cameron is probably the most overrated brand in golf as of today thats the answer......... and why tour players use them? Well its easy ... if someones steps up and tells u "hey we want u to play with this club and u will get as many as u want for free" any tour player would be stupid to refuse. Look at LAB putters ridiculous prices .... as is the LA golf shafts but they mainly aim for pros and people with big wallets and no game :) And yes pros too cause they can sign them and give it away for free as commercial! Everybody wanna be Scheffler or Korda (both play TaylorMade) biggest wallet pays off?
The quality of other brand putters has gone up since the 90s and early 2000s. I do love my pro platinums and oil cans though. Brings back the nostalgia when I was able to play everyday. But for the same quality you can get a putter for $200 or less.

His putters aren't the best anymore so that's a problem and because of that he needs to massively lower his prices to compete. He's rich so I'm sure he doesn't care and his crap will be on shelves much longer

Bought a used Scotty Newport 3 for $150 that replaced an Odyssey 2 Ball and I'll probably use it until the end of time. Just get what you want, you'll rarely regret it.

It's been a while but I've tuned back in with y'all. But $900 for a SC, that seems a bit inflated even to me. I think people just looked around and went for the used SC's.
$900 is a little bit to much for me to pay for a putter when the life expediency is only about 2 weeks before I look again for one that works.

spending $900 on a putter is a flex. Most people would think $150 was a lot to spend on a putter, even though it's the most important club in your bag
I tried the Lab putters and didn’t care for them. But the Cleveland Huntington Beach soft deep milled are super nice!
