    Hi Mario. Thank you for your hard work on this. Your video is super informative. I would like to know if the G6s also would be considered for the post-adjustment in New York. Thanks again.

    • @MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller
      @MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller  Год назад +1

      No, because G posts are local posts. But, a G6 in NY is about the same as a P2 post. It starts at 51,000$ without the benefits, pension, dependants etc... So, I would guess about 6,000 USD a month net at step 1.

    Hi Mario.
    Thank you for your hard work on this.
    I would like to know if the G5 (project Assistant - community Mobilization) also would be considered for the post-adjustment in Doha - Qarar, and what is the base salary scale for this position.
    Thanks again

    • @MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller
      @MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller  3 месяца назад +1

      Yes, G5 positions, like other staff categories, are eligible for post-adjustment. This means that a G5 staff member in Doha, Qatar, will receive a salary that includes the post-adjustment component to reflect the cost of living in Doha.
      At the moment, looks like Doha is at 50 %, and G5 is at 45,000 USD in NY, so + 50 % would be 67,500$ in Doha + the step adjustment.

    Hi Mario, I first want to thank you for all your effort in all the videos you have created. I am originally from Syria and came to Canada about three years ago from Lebanon as an immigrant with my family. I worked at a very young age in a mechanic shop for more than eight years in Lebanon, and unfortunately, I could not go to school for eight years. However, I am about to graduate high school here in Calgary, AB, officially. I also got a Job with one of the top dealerships in AB. I honestly was interested in getting a job with the UN because they helped me and my family to come to a great country Canada and helped me to pursue my education/ dreams.
    Now can you please instruct me on where to start at? What kind of degree do I need to be able to apply for p2 or p3? I also fluently speak three languages. I do not know if that will help with anything.
    An enormous application for taking the time to read this comment👍😊.

      Thanks for getting back to me, Mario 👍😊. I have used the website several times to look for an international Job in the middle east with my high school diploma. However, there are fewer opportunities. What level will I be starting at with my high school diploma? And how can I work my way up in getting a certification to get an excellent international job as P2 or P3?
      I’m grateful for your taking the time to answer my question.

    Hi Mario. Jamaican here ( haha ). Firstly thanks for these videos, they are a life saver. What if i worked as an Operation manager (2010-2016) pre bachelor degree, completed my bachelor (2017-2021) , three years of teaching (2021-2024). Could I apply for the p4 or p 3 or can i apply for both of these position ? Thank you

    • @MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller
      @MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller  2 дня назад +1

      Hello, you can apply to both as it is likely they will consider your application for the 10+ years of experience. The difficulty will be the lack of UN experience, though. P4 positions are rare and mostly technical in nature. Personally, apply for both, but make a bigger effort in P3. You can look for smaller organizations. Not in Jamaica, but as a example ISA and UNEP in Kingston would be the type I'm thinking about.

      They do and with the same level of acceptance as they would a qualified foreign candidate. The reason why it is rare is that because locals don't apply as they lose almost all the benefits.

      An American can apply for a P or D post in the US, but you would lose all the benefits of your G4 diplomatic visa, tax exemption, the education grant, rental subsidies etc... So it is not worth doing it for most people.

    • @MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller
      @MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller  Год назад +1

      Hello Chi. The UN Police (Individual Police Officers - IPOs) are generally recruited through the UN Selection Assistance and Assessment Team (SAAT) process. As you know. The level and cadre can vary depending on a variety of factors, including the specific mission, the officer's qualifications, experience, and the specific needs of the UN at the time of recruitment. You can check on Inspira, careers.un.org and look at what is available and what are the requirements and see where you match. That's the best answer I can give you.

    Hi mario, thanks for the video, how many years of service should you render before you can be eligible for retirement? Also, if you retire at age like 30s or 40s, will you be receiving pension immediately or you should wait until 60?

    • @MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller
      @MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller  2 года назад +2

      That's a complicated answer that merits a complete video. It will depend on when you start at the UN. If it starts at 60 and needs to retire at 65, you will only have 5 years and a really low pension. If you start at 25 years old and retire at 40, you will have 15 years but still a lower pension (1 % x 10 years and 1.5 % x 5 more years). Basically, you get 1% per year at first, then 1.5 % at 10 years and 2 % after 15 years... So, you accumulate more pensions faster if you stay longer. After 32 years, you are maxed out at 70 % of the average of your last 3 years of work. I'll make a video about it.

      It is hard, but not impossible. I have a friend that was a G6 and acted on a P3 post for almost a year. When he applied, and he got it. Seeing that it was not great to be P3 in your own country, he applied for another P3 in Geneva and got it again. Now, ten years later he is P4.

    Hi sir! I've heard that there is a huge barrier between G posts and P posts, is it really hard to move to Professional posts if one is coming from a G service post? Is this also true for national officers wanting to seek a career in P-service posts?

    • @MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller
      @MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller  Год назад

      I think I have discussed it in one of the videos. Still, you are correct. It is almost impossible in the same organization. However, you have a better chance if you go from G6 or G7 to P2 international. Especially if you have additional degrees or experience that can justify why you are applying for an international post from G.

  • @didierngufu7971
    @didierngufu7971 Год назад

    I don't totally agree with you when saying P2 level doesn't require work experience. Most of the time you need at least 2 years of experience depending on the Agency.

    • @MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller

      You are correct in most cases, unless you have an internship at the UN, you won the Young Professional contest or you have people you know in the organization as I have seen it happened.

    I noticed that the UN says they don't care about your immigration status but you have to be available for the interview or testing etc and relocate at your own cost. Does that mean that anyone can apply for even General service entry level jobs and even if it you can , will it make sense ?

    • @MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller
      @MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller  2 года назад

      As far as I know. The UN being an international organization, they can hire you without a work permit in the country where they are located. But, sometimes, the host country might have agreements like... We provide you the building, electricity etc... So, in return, the GS staff need to be citizens of my country. Then, you would have tax-free import of your goods, no help with the visa and not many benefits. I'm curious, I'll go read the staff rules about it. Personally, I think you are better off as an international P2 in Africa than a local G6 in New York.

      Likely not, unless you can live in the United States by yourself. The UN will not help a G staff move and get US visas. Only P2 and above will get G4 visas to live in the US and work at the UN.

    for NO-A?

    • @MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller
      @MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller  9 месяцев назад +2

      Tough. The salary of a National Officer (NO-A) at the United Nations is not universally fixed; rather, it is determined based on the local salary scale in the country where the officer is stationed. Unlike the international professional staff (like those on the P-scale), who have a base salary scale that is adjusted for cost of living and other factors globally, National Officers are compensated in accordance with the best prevailing local conditions of employment. So, it depends on the host country.

    • @MarioStingerPerpetualTraveller

      Consultants are mostly retiring and retired UN staff. Friends of staff or people that have managed to get into the system via procurement or apply for a minor contract or two, which have a low barrier to entry. Then, they are in and apply or are called for long-term or more significant contracts. If you have a company you need to manage to add yourself to the approved list of suppliers and have some history with NGO.
