You should be able to fit a card between the licker in and drum teeth. It sounds like your teeth are intermeshing. You would get enter results with a bit more space.
Ok watched all videos of this is something I truly want to buy a alpaca. I’m still debating. I think probably not the process is very tedious I’m glad u help me decide. ❤️ thank u
thank you for the video, I am a new knitter and went to my first fiber fest this month, next thing I know I am learning and buying a used spinning wheel and about to learn more
And now you’ve fallen down the rabbit whole. 😂 I started learning to spin and really enjoy it. Now to practice it and get good at it. Welcome to the Fiber Arts!
I just found your site last night, but your download page cannot be found? I enjoyed watching this series, very informative for hopefully the near future! Thank you and Blessings!!
Hi Tashia - I've recently started following you as I'm learning to process and spin alpaca fleece. I love your videos and find them really helpful. Do you know what's happened to @thelooseend? I wanted to make the picker that you linked to but can't find the website anywhere. I like the simple design and the not-so-bent nails. Cheers Cx
Hi, been watching your videos for few months now as trying to process alpaca and I like the information you put in your videos, very informative! you are one of my few likes and saves. wondering, I have not seen anywhere information about how far the licor roller should be away from the big roller, if too close, all the fibres stick to it, too far and does not pick up anything wondering if you could help Thanks Randi
Hi Tashia, I was wondering if I can use alpaca fleece as a duvet stuffing instead of lambs wool? Do you think that the alpaca fleece will just end up a felted clump in each cell over time or would it remain viable? I hope my question made sense to you lol. Cheers Craig
Hi Craig, I think it would clump. I’d recommend using sheets of felted alpaca. It doesn’t need to be thick to be warm! And it’ll be more lightweight than lamb’s wool.
Do you have a tutorial for how you make your dryer balls? I am not sure I’m at a time/place in my life to sit and spin. (I have lots of little running around and a spinning wheel with little fingers seems dangerous). I do however think I can make dryer balls with them around 😅
I talked about making them in the podcast I was doing in 2017. Here are two segments that will get you going in the right direction: ruclips.net/video/aufA1bhvv_c/видео.html ruclips.net/video/EKTmdje7aP8/видео.html
You certainly can, but it won’t come out as clean. Some of that dirt will be trapped by the twist. Plus you’ll have dirt and VM all over your equipment.
You are not keeping the cut end and the not cut end going the same direction, are you? Is this because it is alpaca fiber and unlike wool, keeping the diriction root to tip is not important? Please correct me if I am not understanding correctly what I am seeing.
I do not keep the cut/non-cut ends going in the same direction. That idea is new to me. In the classes I’ve taken about working with alpaca, this has not been mentioned.
@@ButterfieldAlpacaRanch I saw some person working with wool, with this breed of fleece and keeping the ends aligned. I think it only applies to wool or only applies to certain breeds of wool
I was really hoping this would help me card the fiber I have, but she has expensive, specialty tools, not the simple hand carders I can justify as a hobbyist. Nothing wrong with showing the expensive professional way, but it would have been nice to have that in the title so I didn’t bother to watch.
I’m sorry the video did not meet your expectations. However, The equipment used in the video is not professional. That would be at the mill level. Neither do I consider the drum carder an expensive tool when I literally have hundreds of pounds of fiber per year to process. Considering this is a channel from an alpaca ranch, you can expect that there’s a lot of fiber to work with and hand cards are just too time-consuming. I hope you find videos more in line with your needs. But I certainly don’t think my video is a waste of time to watch. And it IS appropriately titled.
@@ButterfieldAlpacaRanch I’m very sorry to hear that you have such a difficult time with mild criticism. You have my sympathy, but this is maybe not the best trait to share with random internet strangers. Hope you have a nice day.
Criticism?? Lol. Based on you condescending response, I must have hit a nerve. It is obvious that our perspectives regarding what is professional or expensive fiber processing equipment are very different. I think it best we part ways here.
@@ButterfieldAlpacaRanch Its a wonderful video. I only have 18 alpacas and couldn't even imagine trying to hand card. Made my own drum carder lol. Not nearly as hard as thought it would be.

Thank you so much for this! What a wonderful job you did on this series!

Thanks for the nice video! You remind me a bit of Spiro Skouras but probably there's no relation.
I absolutely love your videos. Is it still possible to get that 7 step guide? The link doesnt seem to work any longer
yes please make the link available again

Percentage of the survival socks? 75% your alpaca?

Hi. Where can I find your crochet tutorials?
The RUclips channel called Forever Bliss Crochet.
Question can this process be used for fiber art and not yarn?
I do not see why not.
can I card and spin dirty alpaca then wash it
You certainly can, but it won’t come out as clean. Some of that dirt will be trapped by the twist. Plus you’ll have dirt and VM all over your equipment.
The DIY for the picker is not available?
The link is to someone else’s blog where the directions were originally found. It seems it is no longer there. Sorry.
Is there a way I could contact you via email or phone to ask some specific questions? Thank you
+Cami Boughn I'd be happy to talk by phone but email me at ButterfieldAlpacas {at} gmail {dot} com first. Thanks!
