For the delay it’s probably because just flicking the right stick down will cause another animation (pump fake / dribble move). So the delay could be the game registering the motion as a shot and not a dribble move or pump fake. Just guessing though.
The tempo is the time between the set point and release visual cues. You need to match that timing with your stick push. But it's kinda weird because if you start the push movement before the set point cue you'll get a slightly slow tempo even if your actual tempo is correct.
Couple of things change the tempo, assuming your jump shot stays the same. 1. If your push timing was early: Your tempo is going to want to be slower and your more likely to get a 'fast / slightly fast' tempo. 2. Your push timing was late: Your tempo is going to want to be faster and your more likely to get a 'slow / slightly slow' tempo. If you get a good initial push timing you pretty much should be able to flick the stick for tempo about as fast as you want and it should green 70-80%+ of the time as long as it wasn't extremely slow. I think most people will find that a tempo where you move the stick not as fast as possible, but decently quick (about 100-110 MS) will probably be the best for most scenarios as long as your not super late on the initial push timing.
Spent like 2 hours in my court practicing the jump shot on High risk reward. Shooting the ball on this 2k is a little difficult. You gotta have the arrow meter and your animations down pack, you can’t be decisive. During a game it’s more challenging. I don't think 2K considered if you've been playing 2K for a long time. Part of what makes 2K is some of the core elements using the button to shoot is one of those core elements. It's part of what makes 2K feel I guess natural to me as a gamer. Holding that shot button and letting it go. Using left stick to move around and the right stick to create dribble moves. Holding L2 /LT to go into post up. You see what I'm saying there's just core elements that make it feel like 2K. It's just less enjoyable if I'm using stick to shoot.
