Dignity, Equality, and Solidarity: A Catholic Alternative to DEI

- “Diversity, equity, and inclusion are hopelessly corrupt concepts that are irreducibly at odds with the basic tenets of justice in the natural law tradition.” These concepts violate human dignity and the most basic understanding of a just relationship.
Alternatively, dignity, equality, and solidarity (DES) are basic and fundamental concepts within the Catholic tradition that accomplish everything DEI putatively intends, but they have been obscured by the cultural movement we currently face.
Dr. Matthew Petrusek spoke recently at the SENT Ventures Chicago Regional Conference to discuss how we can approach the controversial topic of DEI; what it means in a corporate, government, and educational context; the moral implications of the terms; and the better alternative, DES.

DEI reminds me of the truthfulness of the slogan of the French Revolution, "Liberty, Equality , Fraternity". That did not turn out too well!

1. It makes sense that if one is a white, Christian, man, one would "rage" against DEI.
2. It makes sense that folks tend to stick with others who look like them. A white man will hire a white man and so on.
3. Intergration hurt the black community. When Jackie Robinson intergrated the major leagues, a lot was lost from the black community - businesses, a league owned and funded by black folks etc. I say de-segregation, rather than intergration., a la Malcolm X. I don't see why folks would sit at a counter and have others spit on them just for the right to give their money to someone who hates you, all in the name of integration.
4. It seems to me that an American can NEVER become a saint if they don't fight America's original sin - racism. Look at all the American born saints - St Seton etc. They fought for black people.
1. Rarely does anyone criticize anything done in their favor.
2. Yes everyone at all times have to work on their biases towards a group they have an affinity with. That can be literally anything from race, sexuality, membership, or even a frat/sorority. Reddit bans anyone who doesn't tow their leftist line.
3. Nothing is lost or harmed by integration. The only ones who think otherwise, are those to who race matter. We call them racists.
4. America doesn't have an original sin. If you're implying that slavery or racism was our original sin, you're looking at something that pre-dates Abraham and Moses. To counter your assertion that "an American can NEVER become a saint if they don't fight America's original sin" St. Damien de Veuster of Molokai, Saint Junípero Serra, St. Kateri Tekakwitha, St. Mother Théodore Guérin, St. Isaac Jogues, and Blessed Sister Miriam Teresa. For the record, color-blindness comes with the territory of being holy.

America DOES have the original sin of racism. I heard this from Bishop Barron as well. I meant American born saints. None of the saints you mentioned were American born. Doubling down - America will NEVER have another American Born saint unless that saint contended with the grave sin of racism.
The only folks who say race does not matter are typically white folks, who have gone their whole lives without having to contend with race. They call that "privilege". Anyway, if race does not matter, I say we make all the Christ statues and crucifixes in your church black, with black features, hair etc. Let's do it Cap'n!
Excellent! This is very helpful and timely. The seminary for which I teach is considering a change in its community policy to accept same-sex behavior. They have already adopted a DEI approach in regard to race and women. Whether or not it will do any good, I believe I must protest, and this gives me some insight into what needs to be addressed.
What further insights would you have for this alternative approach in light of _Fiducia supplicans?_

In what way specifically? What implications does this contention have for catholicity and papal infallibility, and how should the Church deal with LGBTQ people? Is there room for communion with them, or are they to be anathematized altogether as abominable degenerates?

@@Synodalian I don’t know. I am not a Catholic so I am watching this from the outside. I do notice that is causing consternation, confusion, and dismay within the Catholic Church.
