    Another better hypothesis is that surnames were given to Vietnamese people by the Chinese during the Chinese rule. One reason was to collect taxes.

      @@nhatminhphan3792 Let's say Han name. You know that Vietnamese or Korean names are originally written in Han "Chinese" characters, don't you?
      Your name must be written something like 潘一明.

      @@ta0304 thats called transcription. Chinese names has transcription in Vietnamese and Korean too.
